State certification is purely procedural and can be overturned. I understand that in some states you cannot do a recount until the results are certified.

There's a few too this and toonthat

I think technically and legally the Electors can give their Electoral College votes to Chump even if Biden has more. Yes their would be one helluva sheite storm and it would be morally reprehensible and almost impossibly wrong but it would be quite fun to see.

The electors are unlikely to do that
as dem won electors are dems. Rep won electors are reps. Possible theres a few faithless electors, but that Deffo is excluded from betfair market. |

Popular vote and related markets just suspended, cleared and reopened for no apparent reason?
By:
Next President market suspended now
By:
Betfair need to get their lays to the front of the queue
By:
Now cleared and reopened also. What on earth is going on?

The projected cash out figures went funny too, lol
What have they done? |
By:
More ridiculous stuff from Betfair - the second time bets marked as "keep" have been cancelled (and more importantly I've lost my place in several runners that I was able to lay from time-to-time!).

My Nancy Pelosi 1000 lay was getting closer
now 16k ahead of me, ffs. |

as dem won electors are dems. Rep won electors are reps.
Not sure about than yhtl |
By:
ffs when did they cancel keep bets? only just taken a look today - looking more and more like dec 14 for settlement, which according to their own rules is absolutely wrong

Thanks for posting this Bingo. Not sure why the popular vote stuff can't be settled though - all the markets (other than %s) are clear and nothing to do with the EC vote.

The Exchange was briefly suspended at [17:00] this afternoon (Nov 27) to clear unmatched bets. It has now reopened for customers to trade their positions.

Please read the below for an update on potential settlement of Betfair's Next President market...
Nov 27, Update Update on settlement of the US election markets on the Betfair Exchange (dated Friday, 27th November, [17:00]) We have not settled certain markets on the Betfair Exchange relating to the U.S. election because of the uncertainty about the outcome of the results caused by ongoing recounts and potential legal challenges. Given our responsibility to both backers and layers to ensure that the markets are settled correctly and given the unprecedented amount of money that has been traded on these markets, we have sought advice from leading U.S. lawyers to determine the appropriate time to settle the markets. We currently anticipate that we will wait until the outcome of the Electoral College votes on 14 December 2020 is known before we settle the markets. This, of course, assumes that there is no conclusive outcome before this date. The Exchange was briefly suspended at [17:00] this afternoon (Nov 27) to clear unmatched bets. It has now reopened for customers to trade their positions. |

Nomination of Electors
The U.S. Constitution does not specify procedures for the nomination of candidates for presidential elector. The two most common methods the states have adopted are nomination by state party convention and by state party committee. Generally, the parties select members known for their loyalty and service to the party, such as party leaders, state and local elected officials and party activists. In some states, the electors’ names appear on the ballot along with the names of the candidates for president and vice president. However, in most states, electors' names are not printed on the ballot. When a voter casts a vote for a candidate for President of the United States, s/he is in actuality casting a vote for the presidential electors who were selected by that candidate's party. https://www.ncsl.org/research/elections-and-campaigns/the-electoral-college.aspx#nomination |

What relevance does Trump conceding have in relation to the market rules as stated?
By:
By:
Being sent to gaol is meaningless as convictions can be overturned.
By:
If trump concedes surely betfair pay out
as soon as they confirm his twitter was not hacked... |
By:
By:
I don't think he will concede
I was answering a hypothetical |
By:
Oh yes, were he to concede they’d pay out but he won’t.
By:
I agree they would pay out if he conceded.
HOWEVER, I don't see what relevance this concession has to the rules as written. If Biden is the projected winner he is the projected winner, Trump's concession is irrelevant. |
By:
If the projected winner turns out not to be the winner
Then you lose your bet , if that’s who you backed it’s not difficult to understand |
By:
Betfair are correct
By:
If Trump concedes Betfair will concede, lfc concedes.
By:
Never heard such tripe
By:
i think you are misinterpreting me, or i haven't been clear i concede.
By:
Right , we don’t know who is going to be the next US president
When we do , you’ll get your money Not before |
By:
Sorry peckerdunne that tripe reference wasn’t to you
It was to the thread and most of it |
By:
Except we do
![]() |
By:
Ah i see, np.
By:
Here it is : you weren’t voting on ‘projected ‘ or anything else
You were voting on who will be president Could be Biden , could be Trump WAIT ..until we know |
By:
Except the market rules state that we were betting on the projected winner:
"This market will be settled according to the candidate that has the most projected Electoral College votes won at the 2020 presidential election. Any subsequent events such as a ‘faithless elector’ will have no effect on the settlement of this market." |
