What is happening now?

The market has done another U-Turn and people backing Trump again?

I know that markets predict the future, so what breaking news are we going to hear?

There certainly is no new news at this moment, which would cause the market to move in this direction?

it might take trump to stand on the white house lawn waving a white flag before betfair payout

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/11/20/us/politics/2020-election-certification-tracker.html

The above link is the up to date list of states which have CERTIFIED.

On that list are the following:

Michigan
Nevada
Pennsylvania
Georgia

Once a state is certified to Biden, what is the scenario that a state is then awarded to Trump?

I would have thought it would only be in the event of 'faithless electors', from which we're immune anyway.
By:

When: 26 Nov 20 18:22
they would have said that and not "subsequent event such as faithless electors"
By:

When: 26 Nov 20 18:30
I would think if supreme court
ruled and then electors were
changed, then betfair may
settle on those lines.

Then the fun would begin having
teased us in on thought we
were betting on projected electors...

Is it possible that one state result could be changed in Trumps favour? Highly unlikely. Is it possible that three or more state results could change to make Trump President? Surely zilch.zilch.

When: 26 Nov 20 18:36
It seems incredibly unlikely. The 1.08 on here hard to explain.

In terms of states certifying elections, my understanding is that is procedural. It can still be changed before the EC votes.

You do have to ask yourself, who thinks 12/1, 14/1 or the like is good value, based on the set of circumstances required, along with the RULES of the market for Mr Trump to remain President Trump.

I think a 1,000 might be undershooting it. But hey, if people want to match Joe getting over 75m votes, when he's already got 80m votes, then it proves how irrational markets are.

I'm just about all in and I don't feel very worried about it
but I sure am getting fed up waiting. I keep stoking my bank for
other markets and it all ends up here because it's like taking
candy from babies. There is the occasional moment when I remind
myself that Hitler did it, maybe Trump can. But in the US?

That's because you're using logic. Trump supporters don't use logic, or critical thinking, so every conspiracy, every claim of voter fraud, they believe it.

And if you believe it then Trump is a certainty, so 14s, 12s, 10s, whatever, it's the best bet ever. And they're crawling over each other to back it.

My guess is that Betfair is waiting for Sleepy Joe's certified EV count to reach 270.  That wouldn't stop Trump or someone else from winning the presidency, but it would surely make Betfair immune from legal challenge under their "projected votes" rule. I don't think it has been unreasonable to delay settlement to see how Trump's legal challenges get on though: what kind of PR disaster would it have been for them if there had been massive fraud in some key states and he did retain the crown fair-and-square?
By:
Fatslogger
When: 27 Nov 20 07:29
I guess there’s a question around Betfair’s technical competence to evaluate legal challenges (although not hard to see were b0llocks) but thinking like that was already making it too complicated for themselves. I think they lost their nerve a bit in the close states and having done so and overthought them, they then went past a couple of easy opportunities to follow their own rules and settle on projections or later, on certification.
By:
Fangsy
When: 27 Nov 20 07:48
I'm sure the lost nerve point is right - on the popular vote how can Trump overturn a deficit of 6m votes to win, or Jorgensen not get 3rd having more than quadruple the votes of the 4th?  I'm hoping for settlement in the next week as certification continues... and a differently-worded market for 2024.

it's all over bar the shouting. Because they have not settled they will have to wait for certified results which could be before the 14th in any case
By:

When: 27 Nov 20 08:58
Betfair have not settled on states that have already been certified.
