The EU brought this on themselves  - When Cameron went to the EU requesting a change to freedom of movement, they basically said tough. They don't care about their citizens say and then wonder why populism is growing. They should remember they work for the people and unless they take them with them they will see populist parties grow. They just want our money and people like osmond support this sort of
banditry.

Trade will not simply stop on march 30th - the scaremongering will continue to the very end in an attempt to stop brexit.  The eu wants its pound of flesh and they simply do not want the naughty bad voters of the uk to get away with it.

I am only interested in the facts.  These others who sling the innuendo around and enjoy sniping really don't interest me, but I like to call them out for what they are.   Sniping away at people who support change and who are critics of the eu federal experiment.

The fond notion that the German car industry will make sure the UK is okay no matter what stupid things we do has been coming out from leavers for yearsFS missing the point and resorting to his usual sarcasm. What people are saying is the German car industry will put pressure on the German government to make sure they are okay. Similar with anyone who exports goods to the UK. Tis in their interest.lfc is right btw. You are so blinded by a hatred for the UK or a love for the EU or maybe both that you are not capable of logical thought.

I refer you to my earlier post about not dealing with actual arguments being a sign that you’re losing the debate. As pointed out, the German car industry canard was why we’d do just fine in negotiating a deal. Now we’re looking shafted, because we’ve totally failed to get a deal that meets the approval of anyone outside the most supine Tory loyalists, it’s why we’ll now be fine if we have no deal. Again, as pointed out to you, it’s just not as simple as suddenly removing a vast number of arangements and trade agreements then expecting everything to be all right because the trade block we’re leaving will also be affected. Apparently these trade agreement matter with the rest of the world, hence the need to leave the EU to negotiate new deals but oddly, we’ll be fine removing them suddenly with our largest trading partners.

I get that it’s complicated but the blithe disregard for reality is exactly the problem with Brexit. When asked how it will work, you just get arm waving, waffle and lies oh and on here you get stupid ad homs, suggesting that the people wanting things that will wreck the country are patriots and those in favour of not doing so are traitors.

If you want to see Eu propaganda at its very worst you should check out the new statesman.

It is such a sad site to see this once great rag sink to the support of the federalist experiment.

Once upon a time, we on the left and within the labour party opposed the Eu.

This rag appears to have done an about face just like the party did.

Crips did rather ask for it, both with the post and with his basic status as a troll (he doesn’t even deny it on the Trump thread). Also, you mean reverting. It rather diminishes the effect of only playing the man not the ball if you trip when trying to commit the foul.

When the facts change, I change my mind, what do you do?

Seriously, that the Bennite left was once anti EU is interesting but it’s approaching medium distance history now. Part of the problem with Corbyn is that he’s largely stuck in that era. Contrary to what you think about my views, I see quite a few legitimate leftist (and other) arguments against the EU. Still, the stuff about the EU preventing any really redistributive government is probably not true and reminds me a bit of the unemployed man interviewed before the 1992 general election who said he couldn’t vote Labour because they were going to increase income tax (it was only for higher rate). If there’s a lot less resource to redistribute, that’s not a win. The big problem I have with the leftist critique of the EU though, is that Brexit is clearly a right wing enterprise and there’s no scenario I see where Labour gets to take charge of it and do an even passable job, let alone get any credit for doing so and maintain power.

In fact, now I think about it, the whole Lexit thing suffers from the gaping flaw at the heart of the left: its impracticality. A really serious left winger seems to spend a lot more time dealing in ideological purity than in actually manoeuvring to get things done. Give me 10 Keir (good name) Starmers over one Jeremy Corbyn. McDonald is a slightly different case, as he’s pretty hard left but does seem to have a practical streak. Problem is, he’s also got a mean streak and I don’t trust anyone that obviously nasty unless I’m very sure they’re totally on my side.

On the contrary Fatslogger, it's not a case of any failure to understand your efforts.
It's just that I find them extremely tedious reading.

As for me not denying being a troll, I've never denied being a commie either so does that make me one?
And by the way -  who's the troll here with all your references to me?

And before you come back and triumphantly claim that I must read your posts because I answered one of them, I'll admit that on occasions I do a search of each page with the first few letters of my username as the subject.

Nice bit of false equivalence. Nobody asked you whether you were a commie, plenty of people called you a troll, after you indulged in obvious trolling (you even listed the people you thought you’d trolled on the Trump thread) and you didn’t deny it. I note that you didn’t deny it just now either. If it’s an ugly thing, under a bridge, holding a club, grunting and trying to eat goats, it’s a...

I don’t believe I replied to a post of yours on this thread or referenced you until you owned up to being too dim to understand my posts (or however you’re now framing it). You didn’t, therefore, find a post referencing you here with your rather narcissistic searching until you’d ready picked a fight by falling over your own shoe laces in front of me. Don’t worry though, I’m used to your very hazy grasp of the facts, like, while we’re here, the EU army that we have a veto on but yes, obviously we’d have conscription (a rather outmoded concept) into it if we stayed in Europe.

I think most of the more hysterical sounding stuff about no deal is just contingency planning for the very worst possibilities following a no deal exit that is already unlikely. Also, somewhat obviously, there is a bit of manipulation going on here to talk up the risks. That doesn’t mean the risks aren’t huge though.

There’s no precedent for this and the extent of our ties with the EU in trade (goods and more importantly services, which would be even more affected) and regulation is oddly massively under appreciated by the same people who tell us the EU has its tentacles far too far into our country. Typical Brexit contradiction, isn’t it? It goes nicely with the one about needing to leave the EU to trade on bettter terms with everyone else (conveniently forgetting that we have lots of trade deals outside the EU because we’re part of the EU but that’s not the punchline) while simultaneously saying that it’s totally fine to undermine our very detailed and deep trade arrangements with our largest trade partner by far.

They’re up the thread, in some cases quoting your posts. I worry for Crips if I post them again. Try 11.02 yesterday evening. If this time, you could manage to answer without saying that I’m so blinded by things you’ve utterly made up that I’m incapable of rational thought, while not displaying much rational thought of your own, boy who called German car industry, that would be good. In the case of alleged hatred for my country, that could hardly be further from the truth. I’m rather fond of it, it has an entertainingly random cricket team and a lot of people and places I love in it. Some of the message board idiots are a little vexing but I could always choose not to engage. As for loving the EU, what a bizarre notion. I’m not sure anyone particularly loves the EU. I’m overall in favour of it and our continued membership of it but it’s a very long way off perfect or loveable.
