'The eventual Masters champion has come out of the final Sunday pairing 20 out of the last 24 years'.

"Lies, damned lies, and statistics"

BUT the last 5 champions did not have the sole lead after any round of the tournament...except Bubba - sole leader after Rd2 last year.

That's especially interesting because - only 10 winners in the history of the Masters - never led after 18, 36 or 54 holes.

The third-round leader or co-leader has won the Masters 41 of 77 times. Angel Cabrera was the last to do so in 2009.

In 78 editions of the Masters, just four players have gone wire-to-wire (with no ties) to win the Green Jacket (Craig Wood, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Raymond Floyd). There hasn't been a wire-to-wire winner at Augusta in 38 years.

Tiger Woods was 21 years, 3 months and 14 days old when he won the Masters in 1997.
Spieth WILL be 20 years, 8 months and 16 days ! On only his second attempt will he go one place better and leave them SPIETHLESS ???

Phil Mickelson is obviously the course horse as is saving his best performances for the biggest stages. While his last two performances the last two years at Augusta have been his worst in his career, his best finish last year came in the final major at Valhalla (solo second). He’s gone back to his putting routine that has given his best results recently so one can be optimistic as he’s racked up 20 weekends in the last 22 starts and 14 have been T10's.

On a course where history matters and where left-handers have won five of the last 11 Masters (Watson and Mike Weir each have one win and
Phil Mickelson has three) - he ticks all the right boxes.

Phil the Trill is 21from23 in ANGC and going for his 4th Green Jacket in the last 12 years in his bid to join Arnie, Jack and Tiger in that elite 4ball - took him 12 attempts to win his first.
Mickelson has 48 rounds under par from his 87 played, with one best score of 65 in Rd.1. way back in '96.
Also add only two rounds of 66 to his six 67's incl. yesterday's round.

Today we celebrate 35 years since Seve Ballesteros became the first European to win the Green Jacket !

2013 U.S. Open Champion Justin ROSE has never missed the weekend in Augusta in nine trips.
Rose was T24 or better in all four Majors last year. T11, T8, T25 & T14 in his last four Masters - THE DREAM IS AMOST OVER - I doubt he slept well last night !

Tiger hits worst drive of his career. Makes a birdie. He's back. Golf does not get better than this...

All set for the final round. Here's hoping we get some drama on the back 9.

Watch the great Norm Macdonald watch the masters live with a couple of his comedy writer friends Grin
