The average attempts before your first victory at The Masters is SIX (from 48 winners).
It’s well known Fuzzy is the only one in the modern era to win on his first attempt back in ’79 but it took 15 attempts for the 1998 winner Mark O’Meara. Two attempts for Schwartzel before winning in 2011 while Woods in ’97 & Bubba in 20.12 had three prior goes at it. Four attempts for Arnie, Watson & Seve and Five tries for Player and Jack. Faldo did it on his sixth attempt along with Immelman, who was the last wire-to-wire winner (incl. ties) in 2008. Only ONCE in the last 30 years has the Masters champ been the sole leader after the first 18 holes. - Crenshaw '84. |

Some good pairings there Catch me, for non Speith backers he could do with dropping a few, know you can get the unexpected but it is looking nearly all over.

JORDAN becomes the fourth player to open The Masters with a 64 or better...neither of the previous 3 went on to win...probably because they weren't as good as this young lad.
Now 4/5fav.....THEY THINK IT'S ALL OVER...Paddy Poor paying out on Spieth - in the shops only. |

Pa,

SPIETH, with a bogey-free 6-under-par 33-33=66 second round, completed 36 holes in 14-under 130 to establish the record for consecutive rounds in tournament history.
It featured 4s on all four par 5s, while Dustin Johnson was 7 under for the par 5s with 3 eagles and a birdie. The 21-year-old's only blemish remains the bogey-6 on the 15th hole on Thursday. He signed his card for a nine-stroke clubhouse lead over Ernie Els, but others have since made a slight in roads into the lead. Hoffman 5back at -9 and and afew at -7. Spieth bumps Raymond Floyd from the top spot of low first 36 in the Masters. Floyd shot 131 in 1976. The record for middle 36 and final 36 holes is also 131. The record for low first 54 holes is 15-under 201. Floyd set the mark in 1976, and then Tiger Woods matched in 1997. JORDAN's opening aggregate also tied the all-time record in any major (Nick Faldo, 1992 Open Championship; Brandt Snedeker; 2012 Open Championship; Martin Kaymer, 2014 U.S. Open). |

With Blixt Top Continental being my best hope of a collection, I am delighted to see Sergio paired with Tiger. Certainly increases the chances of a poor round from the Spaniard.

This thread kind of ruined by the forums censor has managed drive off some real good golf posters.
Great finish by McIlroy yesterday, think he will shoot low today and get himself back in contention. Jordan Speith has looked good under pressure but has been in contention every other week and this is Augusta and a Major,a different type of pressure I hate the concept of trading but see an opportunity for the traders here with McIlroy. |
|
By:
makes a change from yourself and whoever you're arguing with then
need Phil to shoot two 67s (get to -16) now and put it up to Speith |
|
By:
Stop the arguing Premier, just sit back and enjoy the Grand National follow it with the golf then off to Shelbourne.
Are you still fighting with Ted Hegarty ? |
|
By:
why on earth would i be fighting with Ted Hegarty??
have enjoyed the golf even though it's been a bit one sided so far but if Jordan can only shoot around 72 today the likes of Phil, Dustin or Justin could get to within 3 or 4 and make it interesting tomorrow |
|
By:
You don't bet with him,had a dispute some time ago that's according to yourself.
|
|
By:
i do bet with him and you're mistaken if you think i have had a dispute with him, i had a dispute with one of the other books before over a bet but that's all in the past now
anyway it has nowt to do with golf ![]() |

Planned on backing Phil without Jordan, as he really seemed to have the bit between his teeth last night, and he could yet mount an assault on the leader if the boy does stall today. Didn't plan on doing it locked at 3.30am this morning though.....so had more on than I planned!!
3pts e.w Phil w/o Spieth 9-1 |
|
By:
Could happen, mabey ifjordan kicks on the other big stars may get disheartened so trying na,haas, moore for 2nd

By:
I agree with WM that Rory will go low today. He was in a far worse position going into the weekend last year, and still finished top ten. The 11-8 on offer ia absolutely massive IMO.
8pts McIlroy Top 10 11-8. |
|
By:
Course has played the easiest I have ever seen these last 2 days . Might have been set up for Rory , so far he has not shown anything like top form , last nine he was better but still wasted opportunity .
Wonder what "the committee" will do today to toughen it up . But you never know what way their minds work . Cricket today has been superlative by the way . Hope it signals the start of a really spectacular day of sport , so far so good . I would consider a lay of Spieth , mainly for a bit of sporting interest . |
|
By:
F it done schwartzel,scott also w/o jordan
Chasing a bit tbh |
|
By:
If they toughen it up, they won't get a tournament. Leave it easy, gives the chasers a chance to go low and hope Spieth doesn't fire and makes a few mistakes.
|
|
By:
Agree. They gotta have it that a 63/64 is attainable today. And hope Jordan stutters. I don't think he will. Hope I'm wrong, but 1.59 looks big to me.
|
|
By:
McIlroy just beginning to attach himself to the Peleton.
Looks like a front nine of 32. |
|
By:
How the ***k can 1.59 look big with 2 rounds to go in a major? Gotta be a lay at the price...
