Was this a name you saw in soccer internationals back in the 70s, cause I have not heard it since, until now?

ridden 490 races over hurdles last 5 seasons.  horse hurdled the flight perfectly, what on earth is the jockey doing ??

Rico.  you don't think jockeys will fall off deliberately.  Steven Gagan - Musselburgh.

“The Panel concluded he purposefully fell off the gelding. There was no other credible explanation for his unseating.”

Horse went left, then right has it was holding head high, hence legs, then it jumped high, then rolled on landing.

Yes fell off easy.

Everyone has different levels of fear, instinct

Footballers pull out of tackles or jump in anticipation of fouls, others just plough into players, different sense of danger.

The braver ones,get more injuries.

He didn’t jump,he just didn’t commit 100% to staying on.in case of being thrown and getting injured.

Why take risks,at Wexford night meeting.

If this was maxwells, everyone would say, well you build that in to your assessment.trainers son,so his employer won’t sack him.

jumped the same hurdle identically on the first circuit, left then right whatever you want to call it.

there wasn't a hint of any nonsense.

having had another good look at this, this is my opinion..make no mistake he rode it to win..you dont take up the running with a circuit to run, look the winner and think i'll jump off at the last..not a chance
as he approaches the last hurdle the horse **** its head,he tries to steady it but it takes off, byrnes is out of sync and totally out of rhythm..look at the picture above,as it lands he's unbalanced and falls off..looks terrible but imo did not jump off deliberately.

I've seen probably 100s or 1000s of jockeys get unbalanced at jumps - almost all try to stay onboard, under much more difficult circumstances, and many do manage to cling on.

What effort was there here to stay onboard, on a horse just about to be a likely winner...?

The jockey's movements in the lead up to the final jump are also interesting, if you watch the video back.

They look odd to me. Co-incidental to this 'unseat' I have to wonder.

byrnes is out of sync and totally out of rhythm

--------------------------------------------------

that's my take on it Mr.Hunt...

imv he got unbalanced by looking at the nig screen to the left and the horse coming on his right...

your picture shows his legs are all over the shop...

and when the horse lands his equilibrium is not level and he pops outthe side door...

it's clearly an unpopular view...

and i'm exactly the same as irons in that i cannot stand the yard one little bit...

so i normally don't miss a chance to have a pop atthe yard...

but i also say what i see and in this instance i've given an honest view on what my eyes and brain are telling me...

but i concede it ain't the popular view on here at least.

big screen ffs.
By:
HappyHibby
When: 29 May 25 07:20
and i also think he might have lost his left iron at some stage which is why he went outthe left hand side so dramatically...

but i've not seen a head on or rear view camera angle so not totally sure...

but my guess is that getting unbalanced and having his legs go all over the shop it meant he lost his left pedal at some point just before tipping out left...

or at least his left foot wasn't in the normal position in the iron as the horse jumped the hurdle...

all part of the 'he lost his equilibrium' scenario imv.

small field connections no before hand he,s not winning
connections of winner no he,s not winning
you probably don't spend all day working out how to ride a horse to get beat by a horse with over 33LB in hand,he,d been waiting since the turn for it to go by,hence the look to the screen, was thinking WHERE THE FOOK ARE YOU, took only option left for him

i'd agree with rico's analysis

if it was not off he would have been in last position at the off . or just pull the horse up

If he was planning to bail out, he would have been trying to make it look like a genuine fall by unbalancing the horse and losing an iron. I have not seen the race but I am sure it happens. Much harder now than it was in my youth when jockeys openly admitted to doing it before there were any cameras around apart from on big meetings. Very hard for stewards to prove unless they have recorded conversations.

Highly convenient that he exits on the safe side, side door exit with no fear of getting stuck on it, and off he goes walks away immediately after none the worse.

Instructions from Father to son perhaps: You can't possibly beat the favourite so go off fast and hang on for second prize money. Going too fast is the classic way to get beaten without any consequences but on this occasion it didn't work.
There was another race yesterday that changed dramatically late on. Ryders Rock would have been third at best in the 3.18 at Newton Abbot if two clear leaders had not fallen. I am not suggesting that Freddie Gingell was not doing his best but if he had been told not to win, he would have had a hard job obeying ordersHappy

edit: i have just seen the head on replay that racingtv posted on instagram . i'm not so sure now. it's almost as though he sat on the horse with zero preparation or expectance of the horse jumping the hurdle and he got bucked off

over 20+ years on this site and 45 years of passionately following horse racing, I've seen 10s of iffy rides - thankfully the authorities (sic) finally caught up with the likes of Ahern, McKeown, Caitlin and Culhane - although many others were allowed to slip through the net, and this is definitely another.  Even the RTV analyst (and they NEVER criticise a ride) was shocked watching the head on replay, the horse makes NO mistake, the jockey makes NO attempt to stay onboard - if the jockeys surname was other than Byrnes you'd still think this was a plot of some sort, however with family previous it's very obvious that IHRB need to look into more deeply than the racecourse stewards who were probably still in the bar or lunch room during the first race...

What's to Investigate? Use your brain and your eyes. 100% guilty of jumping off for the obvious reasons people in the game know about. Surprised at rico's take on this. Must be back on the heavy spice. Guy knows nothing about Irish racing. And he is clearly not au fait with the byrnes modus operandi. Which makes this case open and shut. Trial not even needed. Guilty as hell.

slickster - I'd agree with your view of the outcome, but due process and all that - mind if there isn't a decision (and of course the inevitable appeal) within 3-4 weeks then IHRB (which hasn't been great in recent past) will be letting everyone down

^ Looking at the close-up of the head-on, if the jockey career doesn't work out, Byrnes should consider applying to be a Hollywood stunt man, imo.

where are the pundits, ex jockeys etc lining up to defend the Byrnes outfit if it really was a genuine unseat?

All we've heard so far is he wont want to see that again or very soft unseat
no mention of betting patterns, horse jumping fine, cantering all the way til the last
even the eventual winning jockey claim he had winner covered is at best fanciful
at worst it adds to suspicion race was not straight (allegedly!)
