Mick Fitzgerald passing the book and throwing Meg the hot potato was one of the most cowardly, pathetic things I've seen in a long long time. A man his age to a young one like that. Disgraceful.

Agreed, that was disgraceful, do you think he jumped off? Like butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth.

Ex Jockeys that become pundits are hardly likely to theow one of their own under a bus because they would be blanked the next time they go in the Weighing Room and Fitzy would defend Judas Iscariot if he was riding

Whether it's Bryony Frost or Oisin Murphy, when issues arise within racing there's a crippling culture of omerta that prevails.

When lawyers call racing locker rooms toxic, on behalf of another jockey don't forget, it is not at all surprising that racing people close ranks.

Adam Mcnamarra on Luck On Sunday:

"If he wanted to jump off why not do it at one of the other jumps" - Does this really need to be explained.

Lets stick to the facts:

* Horse drifted in betting.
* Jockey on leader, Philip Byrnes, looks at the the screen in between last two hurdles.
* Jockey takes a different body position at the last than he has taken at any of the other hurdles.
* Jockey then falls off/unseats at the final flight which means the odds on fav wins.

Being kind and saying there's nothing to see the argument would be - Looked at the screen to see if he was in danger, rode to causiously and then unseated at the last. Jockey error.

Or

Looked at the screen to see if he was likely to be caught. Saw he wasn't so got into a position to allow himself to jump off after the last. Foot was out of iron before horse took off and manoeuvered the fall to his left (so was away from the other horse).

Anybody really think it was the former?

Daddy byrnes still refuses to admit what happened. Said the sprog was clearly going to win - yeah you got that bit right - but as he came to the last he tried to settle the horse into the flight and let her pop it but he then became unbalanced. He just can't help himself. Telling the truth has ALWAYS been alien to him.

One of the most damaging things that has happened to horse racing for a long time, IMO.

It’s won 5 times for Byrnes.

2 times he had to explain the improvement.
2 other times won easily,canter.

Clearly the horse is well hyped.

So this info needs to be fed in when looking at what happened.

They seem to win with it ,whenever they want to.

he's as bhent as a shepherds crook..we all know..The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board dont want to bringing it to the publics attention that punters are being shafted..so they condone it.

If this individual was dealt with 10 yrs ago, there would be a message sent to public that irish racing authorities act with integrity but instead they have looked other way ,irish racing has become a laughing stock when individuals are purposely falling off fancied horses for financial gain,  these same authorities are a scourge on the game and are complicit in the fraud and allow it to fester with no meaningful punishment. They have no respect for betting public only to take from them .

there is not a cat in hells chance of FITZY going in  to a  court and under oath as an expert witness for the defence trying to convince the jury that ,the side on scout shots of BYRNES taking his foot out of the stirrup ,ready to put his leg across the other side for a flying dismount ,was anything other but a 99.999999% JUMP OFF and those % are been generous

You seem to have a very limited knowledge of these matters 1st time thinker.
The only time this would ever get to Court is if Byrnes Snr lost his Licence after an IHRB Investigation and it would be Byrnes bringing the action.
It matters not a jot what people think about the race as they could never prove it

THE IRON  and co missing the point as usual,as punters are bertting millions of pounds to keep the game alive ,i,d expect any opinion from likes of fitzy to be the opinion they,d give in any inquiry, court if were asked, not trot out the usual glib slogans weve all heard a 1000 times before in defence of their bessies

Freako states the IHRB "don't want to bring it to the publics attention". Errrr I think the cats outta d bag frico. All people in Ireland in the game have seen it and knows what happened. I would imagine half the people in the UK who are in the game seen it and know what happened. It took frico 3 days to cotton on. Originally thinking the horse and jockey became unbalanced and it was accidental. Dream on clown. Even though photographic evidence was laid out in front of him he couldn't see the sprogs legs out of the irons ready to jump off!!!!!!! And he CLAIMS to be 3.3 million ahead. Backing 1-50's??? Mmmmmm...

and you've still got jokers like Rico coming on and giving well actually, the horse cocked it's head and he became unbalanced.

Jockey Tom Doyle excelled on the Charles Byrnes trained Solwhit winner of the Ladbrokes 1800 777 888 Handicap Hurdle at Fairyhouse today.

Thick fog was the order of the day and, while visiblity was again poor, Doyle produced the talented son of Solon with a well timed challenge to lead on the run-in, for a three parts of a length win.

Winning trainer Charles Byrnes was on hand to briefly comment "Solwhit will go up in the weights following that and I've no plans from here."

------------------------------

Charles Byrnes comments after "winning at Fairyhouse" in the fog a few years back with Solwhit, don't think Doyle ever rode for him again.

Let's just say it wasn't a hugely expected win. Laugh
