Ms Vennells did the correct and moralistic thing by returning the CBE. Who'd recommended her for the CBE in the 1st place? Was the promise of a CBE the carrot for Ms Vennells to keep quiet, and play ball?
Now, Mr Davey ought to be next to face the public wrath. He needs to consider his knighthood for being "I do not believe you, deal with the Post Office yourself. It's not my problem". |
|
By:
Adam Crozier was CEO of Royal Mail, not the Post Office. It's 2 different companies
|

By:
To think that if she'd won the Big Bishop job she'd have been in the House Of Lords.

Ed Davey got his knighthood for lining the pockets of green energy companies (e.g.DRAX) via subsidies.

These poor people are fully entitled to compo and will, no doubt, get a scrawny amount once it is all settled and the skinny armed response bint from Birmingham trousers £820K, partially for not being "fitted up".
This world becomes more lunatic and poisoned every day. |

Forgive the cliche but if it looks like a duck and it walks like a duck it is probably a duck.
She looks dim and naive in the extreme so how come nobody else spotted it during her meteoric rise to the top of the tree? She came across so incapable at the S.C. meeting you wouldn;t leave her in charge of a kiddies birthday party. |
|
By:
Tiger, the Post office was still part of Royal Mail when Crozier was in charge.

It had to come. The "racist" card had to be played.
It makes you weep. The white hon keys should be behind us in the queue for sympathy. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-67929650 When will the rainbow be paraded for them to get their chunk of the pie? |
|
By:
Why is the Post Office allowed to prosecute people? Surely that should be the job of the Police and
the CPS! How can a corporation (even a Crown corporation) be given that kind of power? In this instance it was in their interest to prosecute to shut people up! |
|
By:
Govt still saying comensation/exoneration will be completed by the END OF THE
YEAR !!! This is utterly unacceptable. |
|
By:
Nothing mentioned about the fate of those who knowingly and deliberately allowed this miscarriage of justice to happen foe some many year. I honestly think these individuals ought to be brought to court and shame. All of them could not be not responsible for this criminal and life destroying act.
|
|
By:
Exactly roggrain it's unbelievable. There are other Crown associates which are the biggest private prosecutors and there has been numerous calls for them to lose the right due to dubious / discriminatory prosecutions.
|
|
By:
Just put on politics thread. News breaking that Starmer was head of CPS when they prosecuted some sub post masters. Also lib dem leader wrote a letter declining a meeting to sort it out as said nothing would come of it.
Could it just be a coincidence this 20 year story is gaining traction now when both the Labour and lib dem leaders could be heavily implicated? |

The calamitous Ms Dido Harding is still getting well-paid positions in companies and quangos; her latest being the senior steward at the Jockey Club despite a long history of corporate failures eg Talk-Talk, NHS Test and Trace, etc.

Yes it is a risible effort. I'd say it's probably down to the BBC pushing that angle rather than the postmasters themselves. They're totally obsessed with DEI these days. |

A few wrong-uns who were ripping off the post office gonna make a killing!

nonsense. newsnight have got a random cross-section of postmasters on to discuss the issue. there's a coloured chap, an indian lady, a coloured lady, an asian bloke .... |
|
By:
Just heard some details on Newsnight from government minister, apologies if already posted but couldn't see it
Every one of 900 odd convicted of fraud, to get it overturned and offered 600k fixed amount...payable within weeks(!) .. Can hold out for more if want to And, the weird bit, all got to sign a declaration of innocence ie to say that they truly did not steal any Post Office money... As if anyone is not going to sign it to get their compensation |
|
By:
taxpayers footing the compensation bill ??
i presume this is after they've repossessed Vennells's assets, sold them off and stuck the proceeds into the compo kitty. |
|
By:
Yep just like HS2, not one penny of private invested, all taxpayers.
|
|
By:
And the gov. can;t exactly go for Fujitsu big time because they almost have a monopoly on the P.O. A.I.

listening to the scouse chancer investigating officer bradshaw fella in the inquiry this morning ,he sounds like a bloke from the dog and duck sunday morning over 35,s 11,asked to lead man city,s attack on saturday
|
|
By:
Watched the evidence in full on Sky this morning , " Get out of bed earlier then " was a classic
![]() Bradshaw comes across like some eye witness dragged in off the street that's deaf , dumb and blind ![]() |
|
By:
think DUMB would suffice
imagine been called a lair sent to jail on the evidence of a lying, thicko, chancer scouser, i,d be outside the inquiry now cocking the pearly ,waiting for him to come out |

What Is the Peter Principle? The Peter Principle is an observation that the tendency in most organizational hierarchies, such as that of a corporation, is for every employee to rise in the hierarchy through promotion until they reach a level of respective incompetence.
Horribly, horribly out of his depth but in all fairness to him (Steve Bradshaw), we've not heard from anybody yet at the Post Office, that sounds competent or credible. |
|
By:
no problems with THE HORIZON system, as an experienced investigator i,d rather believe 700 sub postmasters went rouge at the same time and went on a thieving spree, GOT YOU

ms mone and the other ppi merchants pleased this has come up and took the spotlight off of them.
|
|
By:
impossible to believe that at some point during the investigation someone didn't turn round and say "maybe it's the system"
|
|
By:
any Z list wannabee tv dectective can/would assume, that because all the money repaid by subbies themselves didnt go in to balancing the PO,s books but went into a newly created seperate PO account[ slush fund] to be used at a later date [when they obviously thought it was safe to do so] against the po,s profit and losses, shows from the 1st repayment the PO new it was the new system at fault and not the subbie,s, as otherwise they,d have used these monies straight away to balance their own books and not hide it away and wait
|
|
By:
What's also been overlooked is that all postmasters have probably had monies nicked off them but not enough to show a loss which they were forced to repay.
|
|
By:
Wow just seen a bit of the Bradshaw clips on BBC... he literally said his witness statement was not his own words and written by someone else.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-politics-67941754 Surely that is a crime in itself? Contempt of court? As when you present a witness statement you have to say that is what you believe to be true? |
|
By:
His statements about when he was the Disclosure Officer are priceless -
Yes I was the Disclosure Officer and yes, I signed to say I was the Disclosure Officer. The stuff that wasn't disclosed? - Oh I assumed somebody else would have disclosed it. ![]() |

Only guessing Reg but maybe if things come to light later about certain indiduals being " on the take " as I guess some were its a form of evidence.? |

Listening to that Bradshaw character on 5live, What a liability, must have been a few higher up the chain thinking WTF ..

you just no bradshow had a good fooking drink to celebrate every conviction even knowing they were innocent, like a works storemen protecting the companies stock as though it was their own
