For years POs had apparently always balanced up using "pen and paper" without any problems - Why wasn't' "pen and paper" run alongside Horizon and periods with discrepancies micro analysed for the differences between the two systems ?

Unions Carbide got away with corporate manslaughter for knowingly "killing and poisoning" the locals of a village/town in India. The final compensation of $470m to the Indian government for dispersal to the people affected was miniscule in that corrupt country; a large proportion of this amount went into the pockets of government and local officials in India.
The $65bn compensation and clean-up package as a result of the Deep Water Horizon oil-rig explosion by BP in the Gulf of Mexico was a gold-mine for claimants and lawyers; the amount even surpassed the generous PM Sunak's (then Chancellor) Covid compensation for small business eg £50k kick-back loans for any small businesses. |

The people at the top look after one another, hence the CBE when she retired. Always been the same. Bankers cost every man and woman a fortune, no one in jail.
The common man parks is car for 10 minutes too long - £100 fine. We live in a punishment society handed down by those in authority. Just look what the London Mayor is doing. The Ivory Towers need knocking over. (not in the brightest of moods this morning, rant over, need to set my mind to form study mode) Have a winning day. |

Great drama/documentary by ITV. It's succeeded in bringing this utter scandal to a much wider audience. Encouraged more sub postmasters to submit their claims and publicly, Met police have announced fraud investigations to Post Office. Meanwhile the official enquiry continues, with what will now be a much heightened focus.

The present London Mayor is one of the most luckiest politicians to graze the earth. He's astonishing stupid and naive (his legal associates/colleagues would testify to this) yet he's London Mayor 2nd successive term; Ms Tessa Jowell (architect of London 2012 Olympic Games) ought to have been Mayor but for her illness, and ethnicity; London is a land of immigrants.
If Mr Khan was to contest a Parliamentary seat outside London he might not even be selected as a candidate as a Labour rep let alone by electorate as their MP. The bloke is as thick as two-planks of wood. He goes about in a bullet-proof Range Rover costing taxpayers £60k just for the bullet-proof windscreens and windows. Mr Sadiq Khan is a pillock with a lucky wand! |

that bates fella shoulda have got the CBE !

Why make a drama out of it, when it could be entirely factual? So it can be embellished. It renders the whole thing useless if you are actually interested in the truth of the saga. As the viewer won't know which element is accurate, exaggerated or completely fabricated.....Yes i could not agree more.

impossible 'London is a land of immigrants.'
I was recently on the tube and called 'white trash' by a delightfully oversized black woman dressed all in pink, for daring to tell her that her shoe had fallen off. London is now such a lovely place. |
|
By:
the thing is acey making that drama has put it intothe public domain and action is now being taken due to the tv coverage ,these khoonts will roll right over you and dont give a fook whon lost thier lives or homes .

By:
'swiftynifty', seriously? So out of order, if so. These days non-whites think they rule London some parts certainly true eg Southall/East End.
It's so sad as the local culture has been eroded and discipline long gone; the willingness to "cheat" the benefit system their right. But, quality and productivity repeatedly compromised. |

By:
Yes i did enjoy it Foyle and really want Justice for all concerned.

'acey', what is embellished? I fancy Shish-kin for the Gold Cup after the demise of Gerri; kebab-boy nearly won the darts competition. It could be good omen.

By:
impossible123, to be called white trash in my own capital city only reaffirmed I made the right choice to move to the country. London is rapidly becoming a sh!thole.

Same here acey. There should be an investigation to find out who gave the orders - Post Office, Government or Civil Service - to carry out each individual act of arrest, and expose each and every individual who lied to each Subpostmaster/mistress in order to procure their false verdicts.
Each person responsible for the outrages and persecution visited upon these poor people should be identified and put under the scrutiny of the justice system. In short, they should be made to suffer the same stress and agonies that these poor peole have. As for Vennels the bsstard who recommended her for an OBE should be identified too. It all reveals once again how the unseen and self-protected conspiracies of UK government can flourish without a question from someone within. However I won;t be holding my breath. If Hillsborough taught us anything it is how expert these bsstards are at avoiding prosecution. |

If Ms Harding for screwing up Test and Trace during Covid could be put up for the position of head honcho of NHS; Mr Williamson knighted for contributing nothing in public life except grief and incompetence; similarly, Mr Davey merely for being associated with Liberal Party (he was incompetent too during this scandal), I'd not hold my breath either.

A friend of mine has just retired from the Met after 35 years, he said the amount of foreign benefit cheats costs the country billions, as lots of them have the same names and
you just can't prove anything, and he said, they know what they're doing as well, they even have (Dodgy)lawyers who tell them every loophole . |
|
By:
we pay to educate the lawyers of the future so they learn how to milk the system keeping just within the law.

I've one foolproof solution. It's finger-printing - nothing beats it. Many countries in the Far East and South East Asia have them. Maybe that's why very few foreigners eg those inhabiting UK Plc in droves can be found there.

250k compensation each is by ballpark figure
|
|
By:
£250k might seem a lot of money as compensation for a postmaster. However, taking into consideration inflation is only equivalent to about £150k in 2000. But, £250k now will not even buy a 2-bed flat in London as opposed to a 3-bed semi-detached in year 2000.

By:
plenny more to stick a claim in imo.............good hope they get plenty !
|
|
By:
thing is they will let the court process drag on
|
|
By:
They might but now a high ranking Cabinet minister has ploughed in we might see some early action.
All of the monies the falsely convicted and accused paid in to make recourse were put into a suspension account which has disappeared apparently. What should now happen, in my view, is that the Post Office create another of their own, from which to pay all claimants sums in advance of any final settlements yet to be agreed, which once agreed can be adjusted accordingly.. All while accountants forensically track down the whereabouts of the original suspension account! Who could possibly complain about such a course of action given the circumstances? |
|
By:
Heads need to roll.
People should to held accountable. The ones in charge at the time need to be jailed as a warning to others. This is why things go wrong, because the people in charge know they’ll get away with it. |

By:
allegedley their own people decide how much compo to be paid out ...........er do we want to be paying out a sheadload of dough to these little irritants whon wont go away !

What I don't understand is where is the 100s of millions pounds that they apparently lost. If the system is a load of **** is it possible that while there were 100s of sub-postmasters with theoretical losses, there are similar number with theoretical surpluses. The whole think stinks to high heaven and the full story has still not been told. Post Office Management, Fujitsu, auditors have many questions to answer.
|
|
By:
'Brian', apparently according to the forensic investigator employed by the Post Office these missing/phantom losses were eventually "absorbed" into the Post Office's account as "profit" ie profit for the government, and boost the bonus of senior management.
What a disgusting and unjust phenomenon? The poor postmasters/postmistresses suffered huge financial losses and enormous distress the then senior management at the Post Office were "coining" it in at their expense. |
|
By:
Also, Fujitsu will need to answer for their inept software and the part they played in this scandal; Fujitsu did not hold their hand-up and admitted there was inconsistencies and unexplained behaviours in the Horizon software.
Fujitsu is a multinational company worth many $bn. I'm sure Fujitsu could contribute to the any future compensation package; Fujitsu in Japanese means faithlessness; inconstancy; insincerity; falsehood. How ironic? |
|
By:
Thanks Impossible, strange though that errors only went one way. Totally agree with Fujitsu comments.
