Been looking forward to this for while
First part of 4 tonight
How did they think over 500 independent Post Office owner/managers all of a sudden started fiddling and there was no connection to their new computer system?

We will see

they did no the system was faulty but to many people had a lot of money out of system and easier to throw a few saps to the wolves, till it got to big to cover up,
current tory education sec gillian keegan husband invented the software, she and him knew sat back and said nothing, mizz mone and hubby should be joined in a prison cell by mizz keegan and hubby,it shouldnt be a tv drama, where are newsnight, panormama, dispatches the fooking police
people committed suicide, went bankrupt,  paid back the money themselves, marriages families ripped apart
talking about it last few weeks,i can only think there was an urbyn myth about sub posties all been AT IT and those involved in covering it up believed people/public would be only to quick/pleased to believe it, if i,d been involved done time i,d now own a shotgun and be pursuing those involved starting with the keegans, DID YOU NO SHE WAS IN BUSINESS FOR  YRS BEFORE BECOMING  AN MP LaughLaugh
By:

When: 01 Jan 24 16:07
Swifty, yeah, plus Post Office bosses telling individuals that nobody else was experiencing any problems with the software, clearly untrue

Also, the compensation saga just as bad
The Post Office and the government between them being able to decide the level of compensation that they themselves should have to pay... Instead of an independent body
Plus dragging it out in the hope, and reality, of people dying before having to compensate them
I hope it's not a watered down series, and names named

As you say, I hope big names get prosecuted, but unlikely

What happened was a travesty - some people involved in it and/or the subsequent cover up should have been looking at a prison sentence. An ITV drama about it is most likely not going to be helping so I will pass

If this wasn't a true story and they dramatized it we'd all say it was too far fetched , beyond belief.

Mr Wilson, whose branch in Worcestershire saw £27,000 go 'missing', died of bowel cancer in 2016 after fighting to restore his reputation for almost a decade. The Post Office pursued a prosecution against him and repossessed his house and car. Mrs Wilson said: 'I will never forgive the Post Office.'

A mother-of-two killed herself after being charged with false accounting over £30,000 that went 'missing' from her Edinburgh branch. Fiona McGowan was 47 when she overdosed on alcohol and antidepressants in 2009. Her sons were 12 and 14.
She had not been informed that the charges had been dropped. Her partner Phil Cowan said: 'I put the blame firmly on the doorstep of the Post Office. It's immoral.'

Peter Holmes, 74, was accused of taking £46,000 from his post office in Newcastle.
The former policeman died of a brain tumour in 2015, before he had a chance to see his name cleared.
His conviction was quashed this year. His widow Marion said: 'It was the one thing he wanted – to prove he wasn't a thief.'

A father whose marriage was destroyed by his ordeal died alone at the age of 63.
The body of Peter Huxham, who ran a branch in Devon where £16,158 went 'missing', was found in July this year, weeks after he passed away.  The strain of the case, which saw him jailed for eight months, destroyed his marriage of 22 years and sent him into a spiral of depression and alcoholism.

someone should be in prison for this ....

if you lie as easily as you breathe like keegan and her hubby the idea that someone would go to any lenghts to clear their name of lying and thieving IS ALIEN to them, they think its what they themselves were born to do,its why tory,s/the right   spend their entitre live,s work, getting the plebs to concentrate on benefit cheats, scroungers, migrants, poor parenting etc, etc,ALLOWING THEM A FREE RUN,and the mugs/plebs  keep buying it

Shocking first part last night, kept out of the media really and as it’s goverment then it’s quite normal to not get the real what happened for years, what happened to these people was criminal and those in charge lied to keep it quiet, the best for me was they lady pressing the add up button once said 2000 owed then repeated the same with telephone help from them and it went to 4000 lol

A despicable and shocking behaviour by senior management at the Post Office; the investigators did not come across positive too. How did no one think or ask why or how so many experienced and wholesome Post Office managers were experiencing the same predicament with their computer, and giving similar (plausible) unexplained reasons?

I think the senior management then ought to be called to answer for their actions, and apologise unreservedly to the victimised Post Office managers. I think their bonus ought to be reclaimed to further compensate these poor Poor Office managers for their lost of liberty, their material possessions and stress as a result of their Horizon computer system.

Why make a drama out of it, when it could be entirely factual? So it can be embellished. It renders the whole thing useless if you are actually interested in the truth of the saga. As the viewer won't know which element is accurate, exaggerated or completely fabricated.

Exactly Cider, i find these things unwactchable as you dont really know the truth or which as beeen added for ''Dramatic purpose''.

hear what you're saying but i doubt they need to embellish anything in this instance and it would do the innocent no favours if they did...a national disgrace, not least how long it took for justice to kick in once the truth was in plain sight

The forum is dead anyway, Manoleeds. It takes a few minutes to read a few hours worth of posts. It isn’t difficult navigating around the non horse topics. Which you seem to post on frequently, even if it is just to object.

The era of the individual is over. We are all numbers on spread sheets, data in algorithms.

If the computer programme says 2 and 2 are 5 then it must be so, and if the error is brought to

the attention of those responsible they will sweep it under the carpet.

People are not judged on their personal qualities any more. Tick all the boxes jump through all the

hoops and if there's a legitimate reason why you can't,tough. You are rejected by the algorithm

and by the organization that uses it.

This isn't the future, it's now. In fact it's history already in the form of the PO scandal.

A probably doomed to failure attempt to try to stop this non horse related stuff being posted in the first place.

I wish it would relent from raining, nearly 18 hours solid around here. Judging from this thread seems like something worth watching on catch up. Incidently Computer Weekly first reported rumours about the Horizon software nearly 15 years ago, I remember reading the story and sort of followed it over the years.

Thought first part of 4 last night was OK
These things always a bit slow to begin with, introducing characters, giving a background to people who know nothing about it
I hope to find out if Horizon call centre staff were being told to say that nobody else had any problems when clearly knew otherwise

After last part on Thursday there's a documentary same channel at 10.45 all about the scandal

It's not my threads that I'm bothered about, I don't start many and I'm not bothered if any get no replies. The threads of George B, AIS , Irishone and certain others are almost invariably useful on a horseracing matters.  It's the constant posting of non horseracing matters since the demise of chit chat that dilutes the forum which used to be so much better. Anyway said my bit and I doubt if it will change anything.
