It was bloody awful and like watching a match in a graveyard.  Turned it off after 5 minutes.

Of course The Management is correct and this is just a diversion that right wingers have seized upon. So much for their so called "Free Speech" when nothing at all was said by Lineker on MOTD or the BBC.

Yeah it was a disgrace. Why couldn't they have a new employee doing the commentary ?

It is hard to believe - but since this "Crisis at the BBC", the Daily Express has not even been able to find room on their front page for any pictures of Princess Diana. SadLaugh

Have you ever been to a live football match, sparrow? Because if you ever do, you'll find there's anything up to a hundred thousand people there, all paying to enjoy football in an absence of commentary and punditry.

And then there are those of us who are deaf. One reason we enjoy sport so much is because deafness makes no difference. It turns out that commentators and pundits are completely irrelevant to enjoyment of sport.

Oh. I didn't know they used to have commentaries at the ground in those days, sparrow. They must have done, because you wouldn't have watched football otherwise. It would have been 'like a graveyard'.

PETER HITCHENS: End this crude smear against conservatives - Hitler’s Nazis were in fact left-wing racists... Gary Lineker knows as much about politics as I know about football

Gary would be right if we were putting them in concentration camps not 4 star hotels with free meals and wifi plus mobile phone and £30 spending money every week Confused

Fair play to him George - it seems he was prepared to write all sorts of jiggery pokery in order to somehow manipulate a picture of the gorgeous (and brilliant actor) Sophie Rundle into his work. Love

What a gal.

You do have to admire the Daily Mail and the Daily Express - they can run an article on stomach bacteria or house plants that don't mind direct sunlight - and still manage to get a "link" into it that requires an old picture of Kelly Brook in a bikini or Bella Hadid in stockings.

God bless them and their brilliant writers.

yeah but screaming you know all the players if you support a team and don't really care about the others. If you're a neutral watching on tv you likely don't know all the players let alone all the subs.

He old now and so totally out of touch full of his own self importance is time for him to be put out to pasture with the rest of them. MOTD was just so much better without the dross the £1.4 million or so he earns could be put to much better use couldn't it.

I watched it and I enjoyed it. I know they don't have the rights to show too much of each game but it felt like the editing team were doing their bit to support Gary and Co. with a reduction in the highlights. All it needed was someone doing some voice over work, giving the line ups, injury's and whatnot and then giving each team's position in the league. The editing team, who obviously kiss the arses of Gary and Co couldn't even be bothered to produce a graphic with the lineups and formations. Who the feck do these people think they are? The ego on them! I'm with jinxy, no more talk. Sack the lot of them and install people that would relish the chance of working on and behind the scenes of MOTD

What planet are you on ??  you would be lucky to get 5% of viewers saying they actually preferred it last night.

Possibly just people intrigued? But if the editing team could, you know, do the job they're paid to do. And bring in a voice over guy and a few likable football fans/pundits? The viewing figures would settle at around the same as they are with Gary and Co (Nap)

When Racing UK started, they had one person in the voice over booth who you didn't see, one presenter and one pundit on track, who also had to cover an away meeting, with any any other meetings covered by the voice over pundit.

This debacle is hilarious. I think it's noble others walking out in sympathy, but misled. Mr Lineker is only a presenter (not a very good one, may I say); the other two accomplices could be easily replaced. I'd bring in foreigners to commentate until the situation is resolved eg BBC capitulate or Mr Lineker is sacked. And, the foreign counterparts do not even need to be at the stadium.

Is it such a big deal if Mr Lineker, Mr Shearer and Mr Wright refuse to honour their contracts? I do not!

Give the job to Gabby Logan.....best sports presenter bar none imo....and pay her the same as GL, much better value for money. Doing another excellent job presenting the Scotland v Ireland game this afternoon.

I enjoyed it last night, i watch Big match Rvisited on Sat morns ITV4, one presenter Brian Moore who sometimes did the commentary and an interview in the studio with either managers or players sometimes both and no punches pulled.

I can't remember who it was, but someone yesterday described Lineker as a 'star'. Yes, he was as a footballer, but someone who just talks about football is not a 'star'. It's even worse than calling a newsreader a 'star'. He just performs a function.

The BBC should give Lineker's job to a migrant off the dinghies. In fact, the BBC could do that for all the pundits and commentators who've come out in sympathy. It would save a fortunes. And the average Albanian chancer would have been following the Premier League at least as closely as any expert panel.

I'd love to see the reaction: "They come over here, working for lower wages, stealing our jobs ..."

Yes, so many people "offended" these days be it the BBC, Tories, assorted right wingers etc.

Among the stupid provisions of the US Constitution is the "right to free speech" (contained in the first amendment). Up until now it has been widely seen as the worst provision of any constitution of any modern country. It's what allows Trump to say virtually anything he wants. It is regarded as sacrosanct by the majority of Americans (obviously because to critice the Constitution is a bit like regicide). Now I see why the provision might be a good idea (slight joke).

For all those who have given a view as to the contents of GL's contract, can you tell the rest of us how you managed to see it.

As far as I'm concerned isleham the subject matter was his remarks and whether he should have voiced his opinion. My view is that those remarks were not made on MOTD or the BBC and so I saw no problem.

And if he was twatting out stop the boats, you would feel exactly the same. Er, not. There's not much prospect of the BBC employing the services of anyone who supports stopping the gimmiegrant boat people from mugging us taxpayers off, so it's quite moot.

In the real world of private companies if you made similar remarks on social media it is totally likely you would be suspended or employment terminated.

I have absolutely no doubt that the bbc will eventually cave in to the liberalist onslaught. Most of them agree with what he twatted out, after all. However, many people have now had the modus operandi of the BBC exposed, how few people actually watch a 'flagship' show, how the vastly overated and over paid pundits are surplus to requirements, and it should expedite their cancelling of the tv tax.

No such luck, the liberal elite need a broadcast service to further their propoganda, paid for by the uneducated, ignorant masses and not the'enlightened' bourgeouise.
