Thought the Ellison horse was going well 2 out, not sure about the ride but the horse looked very headstrong and hard to steer at times, one maybe to take out the race ? ( Cianciana ).

Speaking of Arclight, does anybody think NDB seems to struggle to get any horse to drop the bridle in a race these days, nearly everything runs keen in his hands and is a spent force at the business end?

Good evening Guys,

VWD Alan and Trusty with the lay selections, both shorties as well, hope you made a few bob. As for the owner of this thread, he couldn't tip muck out of a barrow at the moment. Both selections well backed, both runner-up.

Never mind, wasn't it Magaret Thatcher that said "where there is despair, there is hope" (something like that anyway)
Laugh

Roll on the DRF and Cheltenham (twice).

Currently bored at Schiphol airport and still 90 minutes wait for my flight to Linköping.

Thanks for the posts and have a nice evening all.

Good morning Guys from Linköping, the best small city in Sweden. Happy

A biased opinion of course, but valid all the same. It's quite mild here considering time of the year, no snow and warmer than München with a forecast of +6c this afternoon.

A nice afternoon/evening with friends yesterday so i didn't see so much racing. A losing bet on Energumene (backed the previous evening at 1.6) wasn't a good start, but i did recover to finish ahead on the day, albeit an insignificant amount, not enough for the afternoon bar bill anyway. Speaking of which, i had to pay for 2, as a local Swedish mate supports WBA and they lost 3-0 to my team Bristol City in the FA cup. Normally the loser would pay in such circumstances, but we do things differently up here.

Energumene wasn't fluent at times and although he had won at Cheltenham it was on the old course; i thought he was beaten before he made a hash of the last. WPM was gracious in defeat, but made a post race comment about White colour of the take-off boards (used to be Orange).

I can't comment on this (maybe there is something in it, who knows) but in commercial aircraft flight compartments and military fighter cockpits, visual displays and any form of indication (warning signs etc) have to comply with certain colours for pilot vision (human factors certification compliance).

I was surprised Edwardstone didn't run on when he looked all over the winner at the last even though Editeur Du Gite is useful, but he did use energy coming from way off the pace. It will be interesting in March as the Champion Chase distance is shorter, and on the new course.

I was pleased to see Comfort Zone win another grade 2 in the Cheltenham opener as he reinforced my opinion of the filly Lozziemouth (readers know i'm a fan) who beat him over 6L (receiving 7lb) in early December. Roll on the DRF next Saturday and the Triumph.

Good racing yesterday, specially at Cheltenham and i thought Nobel Ye@ts ran a decent trial for the Gold-Cup after looking well beaten 4 out. I think he's better than the average GN winner and could go well in March at almost double figure odds on here.

We are used to seeing the Irish contingent come over and take our major races, but now the French have the audacity to do the same, Gold Tweet looking good winning the Cleeve hurdle. It's been 20 years since Baracouda won the stayers for the 2nd time, and if GT is supplemented for the race, would have to be considered.

My recent tipping would make the legend (or should that be bell end) known as Gaze look good, but we all have losing spells at times. I went through the cards earlier, but there wasn't anything that jumped off the page really. One i think has a chance is Onestepatatime (3.45 Sedgefield). Lightly raced over fences (4 runs) winning over CD, turning around a previous 11L defeat by Sir Apollo by almost the same margin (8 lb better off). Improving and would have won more easily but for a bad mistake at the 2nd last. Raised 4 lb to a mark of 89 that looks very winnable. Currently around odds of 5 and evens the 3/TBP to cover the stake.

I doubt i will be able to see the race as i return to Germany later and my first flight to München is 17.35 so i will be on my way to (or at) Linköping City airport (10 mins taxi ride away). A short weekend trip, but enjoyable all the same.

Good luck and have a nice Sunday all.

Your nap looks a solid one Andrew, just three days to go to make a mark.
I`ve dug deep this morning and decided to throw caution to the wind again.
Daughter has just come back from Stockholm, she loved it, might go myself
later in the year, will make a change from sweating my doo daahs off in Spain.

Good luck Kapten

Good afternoon Guys,

Glasgow/Shane.

Many thanks, i didn't see the Onestepatatime race (or the VR yet) just the result, i was actually going through bag drop-off/security at the time, although Linköping City airport is quite small with few flights per day so queues are never long. Saab actually use it more than KLM.

A 16/5 winner provides a glimmer of hope winning the Premiership naps again, but it will be very difficult to catch Cloughie1, and you have a much better chance Shane (good luck). I went with Jilaijone (2.25 Hereford) this afternoon, but a tentative selection. The only 4 year-old in the field and receives weight as a consequence. Won a juvenile on hurdle debut and ran well in a similar race next time out after a mistake at the 2nd last ruined his chance. I'm hopeful, but doubt i will back it.

Shane, nice to read your daughter liked Stockholm, i agree with her wholeheartedly, and it's even nicer in the sunshine months. If you decide to go later in the year, let me know i can certainly give you tourist advice, i know the city quite well, in fact, if you're there when i'm home in Linköping (i go every 4-5 weeks) i could take the train up and meet up for a coffee/beer. Whatever you do, don't miss the Vasa museum (Google it) i've been several times and never tire of it (no comparison with our Mary Rose that is basically a hull).

Most people i know that have been to Stockholm, or anywhere in Sweden come to that, give positive reviews. Clean, safe (some areas in Stockholm and Malmo are best avoided, but you wouldn't visit them anyway) everyone speaks English and there is beautiful scenery with a zillion lakes, and almost as many forests. Negatives are the winters can be long with reduced daylight hours and alcohol is not cheap, albeit not exorbitant at the moment as the exchange rate favours Brits (currently around 12.8 SEK to 1 GBP, but it has been 10.0 in my time there). I've spent over 20 years at the Saab facility in Linköping, i love it the city, it will always be part of me as my daughter was born there.

Good luck and have a nice Monday all.

The Mrs makes holiday decisions, i know she`s always fancied Sweden, she watches
all the Scandi noir stuff on Netflix Grin I`ll keep you posted and should we go
definitely meet if convenient for both.

Gone for Ramz 8.00, last run was promising for new trainer and up in trip tonight, around 40`s on here.

Good luck on the final day

WD on your last lay TheAnorak, annoyingly missed.

I have laid Spartan Army at 2.58 in the Wincanton 2.00. Although a 16.5L unplaced to Comfort Zone doesn't seem too bad, nothing has franked the form of his first maiden win despite them all running since. No 4yr old winner of this race from 9 attempts with just one placed.

Morning Trusty,

I've been looking at that race as well. It's interesting to consider the course records of the jockeys on the four main contenders. These are their career numbers for hurdles races at Wincanton:

Cobden  58/159    Jacob  43/254   Dingle  8/51   Heskin  1/16

Agree about the weak form of his maiden win and even at Chepstow, he'd have only been 6th but for the faller at the last, finished behind a 66/1 shot and beat three that were 20/1, 50/1 and 66/1. So overall, not much encouragement to back him at that price!

I prefer Celtic Art, who led home three that were miles clear of a big field over C+D, second has won since - he'd be half his current price if he was trained by Nicholls or Henderson.

Good afternoon Guys,

Alan/Trusty

Many thanks and good luck with the selections.

An early start this morning, i had to take receipt of a new washing machine and 2 burly Hermes guys arrived at 06.50 ! To make it worse, it was too big (the apartment owner arranged it). Anyway i digress, although i did pick out a couple of lays over breakfast, both at Fakenham, Tortula (1.30) and Dondiam (2.10) but unfortunately both have drifted to outside the odds limit. Varying reasons including the latter has only beaten 8 horses home in 6 races, although i do like the trainer. Maybe i can find an alternative, but i wasn't overly enamoured with the cards today.

Off to Leopardstown on Saturday (only for the day) but any thoughts of getting a reasonable odds-on price for Lossiemouth in the Juvenile are out of the window looking at the declarations (Blood Destiny a NR). Unbelievably (or perhaps not so) WPM has 6 of the 8 entries. It looks like a benefit weekend for the trainer, as it was last year.

Shane

If you visit the Vasa, there's a Viking museum next door, and if your good lady wife is an Abba fan, a short walk to their museum (i was back in time, but never been in).

Good luck and have a nice Thursday all.

The 100/30 SP winner was 9/2 when posted (or shortly after).

In fact, I didn't bet until the last ten minutes before the race and averaged 5.39 on here - the BF SP was 5.07. The bookies at Wincanton were giving nothing away in that race, as Trusty's lay was returned at 7/4, but was trading on here at 3.8 as they lined up, having been around 2.5 when he posted.

Andrew,

I believe Torula had a heart attack as they were pulling up after the race. It was caught briefly by the cameras and seen live on RTV, much to the horror of the studio presenter.

Good morning Guys,

PHS/Alan,

Thanks for the posts. I didn't see any of the afternoon's racing, only results and noticed the Torula news in RP race comments. Sad

Regular readers know one of the guys i go racing with has a share in Sense Of Security, but not for much longer as she's at Tattersalls February sales today (Lot 442). For anyone who has never seen such a sale, or is interested, a link to it is below.

https://secure.tattersalls.com/4DCGI/Sale/Live?site=NMT

I haven't had chance to review the racecards yet, but lunchtime is less than an hour away. I did flip through them last night, but there wasn't anything that jumped off the page, although the card at Meydan looks OK. Maybe more later.

Off to Gatwick this evening and Leopardstown tomorrow (a weekend of discounted airlines travel). Looking forward to it, with crossed fingers that WPM has a good afternoon.

Good luck and have a nice Friday all.

4 shorties at Sandown tomorrow and they can't all win. Have decided to lay Gerri Colombe in the 2.20 at 2.26. Got 3 running for me and Henderson has farmed this race. The jockey is 0/18 in the last 2 weeks although annoyingly he is 1/1 at Sandown. Still he only had one horse to beat LTO at Limerick and this will be tougher tomorrow.
By:
TheAnorak
When: 03 Feb 23 19:23
Evening Trusty,

Main problem for Gerri Colmbe is that he'll have to go a lot faster tomorrow than he's ever done before, as his unbeaten record has been achieved in races which have all been run at least 30 seconds slower than standard. The recent Grade 1 success was run 42 secs over standard - I reckon they'll be about 30 secs quicker than that at Sandown on drying ground. Even assuming he can go that fast, will his jumping hold up under that pressure?

So I'm with you, he's a solid lay in the conditions.

Good early morning Guys,

Thanks for the posts and good luck with the lay Alan and Trusty. He's short enough in the betting and the ground could be an issue as already intimated, nevertheless he looks useful.

I was at the Sandown meeting with another poster last year when L'Homme Presse won, we also watched Douvan win in Ireland on screen.

Punchestown, a valid point, but as long as he wins the Juvenile with the right one, i will be happy. A winning day for me if Lossiemouth wins, but a losing one if not, as i will not chase it. She will be difficult to beat, but the odds reflect that.

I layed the fav in the opener, Good Land and backed Lossiemouth on here yesterday, I will also back on course.

The Arkle looks a cracking race and I favour Dysart Dynamo over Appreciate it.

Good luck and have a nice Saturday all
