The money was down on Jo March today and she briefly looked like grabbing the stands' rail and winning (touched evens IR for a few hundred pound), but in the end had to settle for a close up fourth.
My other pick in the race Bronte Moi proved easy enough to back, and faded to seventh after holding every chance. Maybe there will be another day for her. Long Call moved up to challenge in the straight and held every chance (dipped under 3 IR for not much money) but was soon left behind by the first two. Perhaps he'd prefer a stronger pace throughout to come off. Running P/L: +38.07 pts |

Miss Bella Brand, 1pt EW @ 28-1, 7.55 Ripon (4 PLACES)
Ireland's Eye, 1pt EW @ 20-1, 7.55 Ripon (4 PLACES) Two with the same form line against the field in the finale at Ripon. Miss Bella Brand and Ireland's Eye finished third and fourth respectively in a handicap at Doncaster over 5f in June, in which today's rival Cometh The Man finished second. It seemed a strongly run contest with Cometh The Man having been held up in rear, Ireland's Eye probably having sat close enough to the pace and challenging soon enough, while Miss Bella Brand finished her race off well from a mid div position, the first four finishing clear. Ireland's Eye and Miss Bella Brand have each run twice since, Ireland's Eye running just ok to finish third in a slightly higher grade at Hamilton, before disappointing at Thirsk when I'm not sure the soft ground should have been an issue. Miss Bella Brand might have found the ground too lively at Yarmouth two starts back, but last time was a respectable fourth in a stronger race at Newmarket, form that has been franked by the second Chipstead since winning well at Bath. Ireland's Eye wears a first-time visor following his disappointing run last time, and not sure either wants the ground to dry out too much, but that Doncaster form suggests both should be competitive at this level, so a chance is taken EW with four places on offer. |

Needwood Blossom, 1pt EW @ 12-1, 1.00 Yarmouth (4 PLACES)
Needwood Blossom is limited as her official rating of 47 would indicate, but she's not had many chances on grass and when she made her turf debut at Brighton in May (5.5f, good), she fared best of those who forced the pace when finishing third in race where it paid to come from off the pace, and the form has worked out well with the first, fourth and fifth having won since. Her two turf starts since have been disappointing and have come at this track, over 5f in class 5 company in June when she was reported to have lost a shoe, and in more realistic class 6 company in July when finishing only eighth of the ten runners. I'm now starting to wonder if the reason why she has failed to repeat the Brighton form has been down to quicker going, which would be a concern here with the ground drying out. She wears first-time blinkers today, with Laura Pearson taking over in the saddle, and while the ground getting quicker would be a worry, her Brighton run indicates that she may have a bigger effort in her on grass. |

Poor again from Needwood Blossom, and while she's probably not one to making too many excuses for, may take a second look if she turns up somewhere when there's more give in the ground.

Jungle Inthebungle, 1pt win @ 20-1, 3.00 Catterick
Jungle Inthebungle is returning from an eight month break today and has yet to win in nine starts since joining Phillip Makin from Mick Channon, but he ran well fresh on his stable debut to finish second last June at Wolverhampton (6f) when returning from 11 months off, and he subsequently placed in competitive handicaps at Doncaster and Pontefract off marks in the mid to high 60s. He's now down to a mark of 57, which makes him look fairly handicapped on his best form from last season, and while he'd probably prefer quicker ground, a chance is taken at the odds. |

Carpentier, 1pt win @ 5-1, 8.10 Wolverhampton
Carpentier's four runs at Wolverhampton do not seem to match up to his two placed efforts at Kempton, so there is a definite query as to whether he's as effective on Tapeta as he is on Polytrack. However, of the four runs at Wolverhampton, two came last season when qualifying for a mark, and his reappearance run here over 8.5f when beaten 7l into fourth came behind Omany Amber and Kayfast Warrior, who are now rated 12lb and 30lb higher respectively. He needs to put a poor run over 8.5f here last time behind him (when finishing six places behind today's rival Abnaa), but he has shaped as though today's 9.5f trip could suit, so he looks worth at least one more chance at this track. |

I don't know if you know this Billy, but there is a naps league on the "Your Competitions" forum, if you wanna get all competitive and start having head to heads. . I have to warn you though, that premiership is full of shrewdies who could give Hugh Taylor a run for his money! |

I've moved the market with this Carpentier, out to 17-2
 The big mover appears to be Abnaa, who tbf did finish 8 lengths ahead of him last month. When I checked to see how many entries Carpentier has in the next few days, obviously being a Prescott horse I was expecting a few, just in case this evening is the start of a sequence of 1s next to his name...But no, just the one entry, interestingly a relatively valuable seller at Goodwood on Sunday  |

Carpentier was weak in the betting all day til a little late support came for him. It will be interesting to see if he turns up for the seller at Goodwood on Sunday and if so what the market support is like.

Top Exhibit, 1pt EW @ 9-1, 1.00 Ffos Las
Top Exhibit had today's rival Cotai Hero (who was making his debut) behind him in fourth when finishing runner-up over 5f at Yarmouth (g/f) in June on his second start. The winner of that 6-runner race hasn't done much for the form since, but the third Romantic Time is currently rated 85 following wins in novice and handicap company. He could only finish 7th of 13 on his third start over 5f at Beverley (good) last month, but he was drawn wide and wasn't helped by getting into a battle for the lead. The horse he got into a duel with on the front end, Shamlaan, won on his nursery debut two starts later, off a mark of 61 from a subsequent winner. Top Exhibit wore cheekpieces for the first time (no headgear today) at Beverley and there were signs that he may not be the most straightforward (carried his head awkwardly), but the way he kept on again in the closing stages until being denied a clear run late on, suggested he could be suited by today's extra furlong. |

First Greyed, 1pt win @ 12-1, 3.50 Beverley
First Greyed has around 7 lengths to make up on Empirestateofmind and Ron O on their Beverley (8.5f /g-f) form from fifteen days ago, but he patently did far too much having been rousted to the front and set what appeared an overly strong pace in a race where the first two came from off the pace. He meets Empirestateofmind (who has won since) on 8lb better terms and Ron O (who wears a first time visor today) on 1lb better terms. He did run freely as well on his previous start over the same C/D when finishing a close up third, so it's a concern that he'll do the same again in the retained blinkers from the outside stall, but if he can be ridden with a bit more restraint, he's now 1lb below his previous winning mark, and as his two wins have come on soft / heavy, he probably won't mind this slightly easier ground than last time. |

Had the right form line with Empirestateofmind and Ron O finishing first and second, but unfortunately First Greyed failed to get any closer to them despite the weight pull and the ground being more in his favour this time, backing out of it fairly tamely from over a furlong out having raced prominently.
