i'm not going to re-watch the incident because horses getting hurt or killed is the absolute worst of this business and therefore understandable emotions running high - if there was some altercation in the weighing room you'd hope that the bystanding jockeys/officials would have stepped in if it got out of hand and since there was no reports on that at the time then maybe there has been a recurring issue, lets see what BHA comes up with but don't hold your breath because woe betide if anything is found which might upset their diversity/equality push which they're on record as saying is their #1 priority...as I've said below, bryony/hollie are both very capable riders and are part of bringing through nicola currie, lily pinchin, laura pearson etc etc and of course the in built benefits will push megan nicholls and saffie osborne onwards and upwards also, personally I'm all for capable jockeys irrespective of gender and certainly more confident putting money on mounts of the aforementioned than many male jockeys!!

A bit of a poor move naming Dunne in this....especially these days when you can easily lose everything in the court of public opinion who don’t understand anything about our sport.

I had a look at the race workrider. Her horse was jumping a bit to the left most of the race.It was not her fault that the other horse fell.I have alot of time for robbie dunne it was probably a heat of the moment exchange. The race was on the 3 of september

Agreed,at the actual fence where the "incident" occurred the movement by Bryony's mount was very slight and I've seen much much worse and never mentioned anywhere.

bit off topic - Maddy Playle.
Trying to make something out of what
Adam Wedge said after the Welsh National.
I remember him saying something like
'its a mans game' after being asked
about the earlier fall.
Its a saying thats been around for years.

maddy playle like most of the racing 'media' is too far up herself that's why I much prefer podcasts - the finishing line, upping the ante, weighed in and weekend from betfair (yes you have to tune out tony calvin but worth it to hear from kevin blake)...would love to get gary o'brien and/or jane mangan on a podcast, they're so so knowledgeable and make the ITV team look amateurish (which most of them are!)

Maddy Playle is as much use as a chocolate tea pot like the rest of the Pacing Roast shower,I was tempted to start a thread regarding her carp.

Whilst her ilk are employed by the racing industry paper there is little chance that racing can be what it is,particularly NH,a hard sport and a hard way to make a living.1.01 none of the employees could work a day on a farm regardless of gender or realigned balls.

It has become the "Guardian" where the staff know little to fukc all about the subject they pretend to know about, reality is the "Industry" paper is populated by "Minorities" with an axe to grind including the editor?

our sports betting journalism is so far behind the US - it's no surprise that US states are opening up gambling and why Betfair/Hills/Ladbrokes are all (or will be soon) US owned, no punches pulled and information on a 'professional' level - for anyone interested in US sports, I recommend wagertalk.

Understand that North America is a much bigger market and geographically swamps UK so the likelihood of 'meeting' someone you've criticised (even if constructively!) is much lower, which may be a factor, but how many 'good' pundits are there in UK sports? few and far between....and going in the wrong direction

Perhaps he was very upset. His mount had just perished. Maybe he lashed out wrongly but people do at times of extreme emotion.
I'd have just took it on the chin and not gone squealing to teacher. But it's all about Bryony it seems

Gordon you ever watch that program with the guy who bets on American football and asks for 20,000 30,000 if the bet comes up , usually its odds on shots he tips up as well ,think its called sports betting or something, at those bonus's I said to Mrs Workrider lets move out there right away but she was having none of it Laugh..Imaging giving a guy that kind of money for telling you to back a 2/5 shot...

Yes Wesdaq. Everything on this thread is speculation.
But it seems heavily swayed towards Bryony so I thought I'd add a bit of balance and defend Dunne a little

not seen that one workrider but will look out for it -

i haven't paid for any of the handicappers (as the Americans refer to tipsters) but there are loads of podcasts/you tube videos where they provide high quality information and give out free tips, as a hook to their pay for selections obviously...I have two main reasons for following US sports more and more 1) till now I've not had ANY problem getting on, whereas with UK racing I can't even get a £1 ew L15 on!! and this from the same books!! and 2) because there are such large numbers of events priced up on a daily basis and if you specialise on a niche (my current is college basketball) then you can do well, since 1st December when the season really started (covid delays) I'm 49-36 (57.6%) and with a LSP and odds of 10-11 (or -110 in US terms) there is money to be made!!  my body clock has had to change to accommodate the late nights but in lockdown days/nights are a blur anyways!!

if (and  i mean if )  there is some sort of a problem with uk based  male jump  jockeys attitudes to female riders then  maybe, just maybe ,   a very good one like bryony makes  them feel  overlooked at times . they should be thankful rachael blackmore isn't riding  in the uk or the vast majority of them would need anger management !

Strange comment for Cobden to make about Bryony. They were romantically linked for a short period and presumably have a close working relationship at Nicholls’ yard. I would’ve expected Cobden to be firmly in the Team Bryony camp.

Even with both Cobden and Frost riding for him, I’m not sure Nicholls is 100% happy with his stable jockey situation. When Cobden rides you’re never sure which Harry is going to turn up - the one that’ll give the horse a decent ride or the one which delivers a poor, badly judged ride. As for Frost she’s a much better jockey over fences than over hurdles or in bumpers.

I watched the Southwell race and in my opinion Robbie Dunne was at fault in keeping Cillian's Well to the inside of Wisecracker when it was quite obvious that he would be impeded if Wisecracker jumped to the left, which he had done throughout the race. This was particularly evident at the fence before the fall when Robbie was right behind him.

I don't like her because I'm never on one of hers at the right time, including the wonderful Frodon. But.... she is clearly a top class jockey. You don't win the King George on an outsider without knowing your game. There's no way she was in any way to blame for the Southwell incident. Who knows what people are allowed to say at this point but if I were Dunne.... for the good of the sport..... I'd have a good look at the videos and come out and and be very explicit that she was not to blame. Daft stuff.

rachael not only in top 5 by winners in Ireland, she IS one of the top 5 jockeys in Ireland/UK...

agree with the comments on cobden as a rider - I know some rate him (David Jennings!!), he's too inconsistent for my liking and often times (particularly this year) he's on the best horse so of course he should be winning.

with the amount of traction this whole sorry mess is getting you'd think BHA would fast track the investigation but then they'll need to 'woke proof' the outcome so don't hold your breath..

Blackmore in the top 5 jockeys? Decent day to day rider but some rides can be questioned in top races

Minella indo? Last years RSA, knew she’d chased the fast pace yet still kicks on round home turn, then doesn’t go long at the last when the horse needed a big jump

Monalee last years Lexus? And gold cup at Cheltenham? both rides were questionable imo

She is a good rider but top 5 jockeys isn’t proven yet and the proof is in some of the races she has been beaten in at the top table

If Blackmore is not in the top five in Ireland, who are the five ahead of her?

Hmm. According to this HRI stats page, Blackmore has had more rides than anyone else. I was not expecting that.

Back to bullying.

If this is a fuss between Dunne and Frost over one race at Southwell, it should be possible to resolve quite easily by sitting them down with a cup of tea and a mediator and telling the pair of them to bloody grow up. The Southwell race was in September, four months ago. Most adults can let go of grudges after four months, and so can most five-year-olds.

However, the articles linked at the top of the thread mentioned (vaguely) other young conditionals and a climate of bullying which, as several have said, goes back to the dawn of time. How you fix that is beyond me.

Plenty of decent jockeys around but you've got to get the breaks and get on the good horses, the likes of Cobden & Blackmore will always be regarded by many as top riders as they are lucky enough to ride the best horses most of the time,I like Cobden, however of his 77 winners this season 70 have been for Nicholls.
By:

She rides plenty of horses ramuna day to day and is competent doing it and probably does sneak in the Irish top 5 but that is because of the amount of rides she gets from a top barn and most rides from that barn are uncomplicated...but she has got beaten in a lot of top races the 3 above were all questionable rides imo at the big meetings...honeysuckle was a peach but I’m judging her on others

Jack Kennedy, Townend, russell still top for me, I’d say Bryan Cooper but will get mocked but he’s still a top rider in my book

Anyway thinking about it yes she’s probably top 5 in Ireland but it doesn’t mean she’s top draw, just that we haven’t got the top jockeys that we used to be blessed with and she has made plenty of mistakes in top races, I suppose that is how I judge most top riders, as their are plenty of competent jockeys and she is certainly that, on a day to day basis

rachael got to where she is by riding horses no one else would for smallish trainers (particularly good record for shark hanlon) 5-7 years ago but even then I (and others) could see the talent, she doesn't give up easily and although I don't have the stats (perhaps onlooker or other wizards may?) I feel she unseats or falls less than the majority..

cobden on the other hand, and it's not his fault of course, was in the right place from the outset

It requires a sea of change which takes time. I remember a golf club where my company had an open day( Mill Hill I think) would not allow the women players in the club house bar afterwards, they had to sit outside and that was only about 30 years ago. I can't help thinking that opening up this can of worms will benefit future female jockeys rather than Bryony Frost in the here and now.

Just on the bullying which I don’t know the facts in regards what went on, I won’t comment

I would have a stab at a little mental illness problem in regards Dunne...anyone that follows national hunt racing will notice certain top jockeys who they know are top class riders, yet are languishing at the bottom of the jockeys charts...

a few years ago now, I noticed Dunne as having the potential to being a top class horseman and couldn’t understand why he wasn’t riding at top meetings and was only picking up minimal rides on a week to week basis. people like Dunne just need some help dealing with life, like a lot of people in life...Timmy Murphy was brilliant as is Dennis o’Reagan but both in my opinion suffered with their own mental health issues, it is just a big problem in life and something a lot of people don’t understand...I’m not using that here as an excuse for what has occurred but I’d question why a rider as good as Dunne has no confidence in his riding and not riding at a decent level, as he certainly has the ability imo

Bryony would have had a better start in racing than Rachel considering her father was a trainer and would have made sure she only got on the safe ones ,and rightly so, Rachel on the other hand come up the hard way as Gordon said. I have been watching racing for over 50 years and can safely say she is a superb jockey .
Back to the bullying I think Rumrama is spot on, a quiet cup of tea could sort this out in no time. Lets remember most jockeys come from the working class and have to fight to get were they are today. This is one tough game its not just about arriving at the track and riding a horse then off home, its the hours and hours in a sauna maybe 4 days a week if your lucky ,no food and very little water . You should try that for a few days and see how it feels, instead of expecting them to act like monks.Few if any jobs require that kind of dedication.

Hmmm....That might be the case on the flat, where a freak malnourished frame is required. But jump jockeys tend to come from an equestrian background.
