However Ligue 1 matches go ahead. Just without handshaking. Exactly how does preventing handshaking do anything in a contact sport?

Swiss have also banned events with more than 1,000 people.

Easy to miss decimal points and commas just have to look at the profit loss statements on here to see how easy it’s done .

Sod the trainers and owners then that have planned all year for the event but if we cant take the eyes out of the general paying public then it wont be happening ShockedShockedShocked

I just can't stop laughing at some of the s*** coming out

If you want to put the public in fear you cancel big events, you shut the airports for a week, you have to big it up

Silly little things like no handshaking is NOT going to cause mass panic and fear, it proves the elites simply don't live in the real facking world do they

Monday, get Boris on the podium and get him to tell us all the airports are closing for the next week, Chelthenham is off and the Premier League is suspended for the next 2 weeks...

Nope, we'll get no handshaking in public LaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

If the market was “Will the public be allowed to attend?” then the prices are probably slightly under but close. But surely cancellation should be about 7/1? Who wants it cancelled rather than closed doors? Postponement won’t work (situation will get worse in short term). Bookies will want it to go ahead and what bookies want bookies get. They can compensate the racetrack.

France want to ban gatherings of over 5000 people at sporting/orher events, listened to one of our MP's on the radio saying we have to follow their lead.
When the press go into overdrive nothing would surprise me.

Ribero1 was just having a dig at those who go racing but spend all day in the bar. You might have a point though -how about closing all supermarkets and banning bus and train travel? And you never know who has been in a cab before you...

Apologies Geoff you are correct

I do wonder though if it makes that much difference if inside or out when so many people are packed in together.

If necessary in order not to facilitate further spreading of the virus cancel the Festival altogether or adopt the next best alternative ie hold it behind closed doors (if possible) - it's the only prudent option available. It's only a sport at the end of the day, and if the health and/or safety of participants and racegoers are at risk cancel it.

The timing and nature could be against the sport (for this year).

“Due to rapidly escalating health concerns relating to the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the 2020 APS March Meeting in Denver, Colorado, has been canceled. Please do not travel to Denver to attend the March Meeting.”

Around 10,000 physicists and scientists from around the world were due to attend the conference this week, and the late cancellation has caught many overseas delegates in the middle of travelling.

you get loons like atr banging on about when would they run it, spoiling Aintree etc,if it doesn't go ahead it wont be chelt all of racing will stop for weeks, months etc, aintree wont be on
its probably the biggest factor in its favour ,cancel events, school,s,work, transport etc for 23 cases  in round about 3 weeks/month.thats 6 a week ,you,d have to have zero cases for a weeks on end before everything was restarted again

gov team meet tomorrow, they'll take some immediate action and have some further measures, whether the limits similar to france get imposed will determine whether it still has a chance of going ahead

i'd imagine that as the french have acted boris can't be seen to do nothing, he may hold off from limits initially but may say it's to come if we get more cases

that said, limiting gatherings isn't going to make much difference if business, schools, transport etc carry on as normal, it will still spread so expect other measures too

with the media hype at full throttle and the nhs falling over we'll not hear the end of this for months
