I have no interest in Crufts but I’d been wondering what the situation was there. It starts on the 5th March for 4 days.
Public Health England have advised not to cancel the event. This is the kennel Club Statement. . https://www.crufts.org.uk/press-releases/the-kennel-club-statement-on-coronavirus/ I’m feeling a bit more positive that Cheltenham might go ahead. |

unfortunately it will be a politcal decision ![]() |

no bets either way here but fact someone caught it without traveling changes a lot
means its been caught from someone still wandering around and has been for days or more , they will focus on the area i imagine and try trace source , only worry is who they have come in contact with in meantime burky is working closely with the World Health Organisation and the Dublin Bomber and will release a statement shortly but he thanks the forum for their patience |

Was 7/1 last week now 4/6 if you saw a horse drift from 7/1 to 4/6 you wouldn't have £6 on it but most people think it's still on for sure
Next 2 days are crucial, they started home testing Wednesday the results will be coming in sat/sun, first indications look good as no news on mass positive from these tests yet and surely somebody knows by now so charge in on the 4/6!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I don't think there is anything they will be able to do to stop the spread
i can't see how the govn will remain "business as usual", they will have to do something even though whatever that is it will be pishing in the wind i suspect as i said on the other thread, sport will be the least of their & our worries go buy tinned food, hht milk and toilet rolls is the best advice |
By:
ah right didn't realise he was a GP , couldn't have caught it through testing or source would already be known i imagine
i doubt there are many areas in uk who have not had to carry out tests , i was surprised to learn of folk in my area have been tested , went to Italy half term so its already country wide threat but good to know folk are identifying themselves incidences are still very low tho and have been spotted quickly so plenty to be positive about i think |

0.0011% of all people catch a virus with a less than 5% mortality rate
corporate events & stockmarket meltdowns |
By:
The problem is hello headlines like 'Virus claims first brit' should not be allowed. 80 year old cruise passenger(condolence to the family) had health issues prior so common flu could of did the same. Headlines like this adds fuel to the fire for the government to take action.

definitely agree , bbc running minute by minute updates adds to folks fears also
at same time we need to be informed , fine lines as long as story has full facts we can judge for ourselves |

If they called off Cheltenham they'd have to call off all sporting events where people gather, the decision is whether they fancy doing that or not.
But of course, you call off a sporting event but people are coughing over each other on the tube and at airports before jetting off around the world ![]() We're living in an age of hysteria though and if the govt feel they have to make a token gesture then you can be sure that racing, (that these days has a gathering negative momentum pushing against it) will be the first to suffer. |

Been talking about it since beginning of last week
On a site lots trainers owners jockeys Attend , it’s the migration from Ireland Rem we are actually lucky in some ways We are an island so it’s contained the spread Fir us , but the 2 cases in Ireland and first case in Uk yest Cd out payed to chelt in fact I wd say it’s no chance of going Ahead given the risk , I will know more on Monday as we are working For a doc who is in the serious virus unit and had works access To strategy’s to be taken and steps to avoid spread They are have too advice and be patients , The dif with this is a directed case prob had had it 7 to 14 days but Unlike most virruses it can be spread befure any symptoms arrise So think about it a single case how many they being in contact and how many t Ha e said being in contact , and it spreads rabidly as a result , more so in crowded Areas and air condition planes etc so tracking or boats and confined areas a big issue It’s so bad now in China they are training police tj capture victims trying to run As hospital space runs out the though of being penned in in temp Barrocks |

By:
Quick question.....listening to talk sport this morning. Saying there could be postponed sporting events in the coming weeks due to Coronavirus. Would the festival be in doubt?
By:
You don’t cancel anything, you do it with no paying public same as HK has been doing for all racing.
By:
Cheltenham Executive have already stated that the Festival would not take place WITHOUT Spectators.
By:
That’s good to hear onlooker
By:
if the government offered cheltenham enough money to run without spectators they would run
By:
If that was the only choice wouldn’t you rather watch it on TV than have nothing at all. As an owner with limited chances of horses getting a chance to race in any of the races I’m sure they’d want it to go ahead no matter what. Here they shut all betting shops too until this week but everyone coped with limited impact to the overall betting turnover.
By:
So what about public transport? It is stupid, unless they say everyone must stay at home for 2 weeks!!
By:
very true, people would go to pubs to watch it,some would probally travel to cheltenham to watch in pubs if they cannot get hotel money back, lots of things would have to stop, would open a very big can of worms with pretty much everything being shut down

20 Premier League Fixtures on the 2 weekends before and after Cheltenham - including ...
Liverpool (at home) = 50,000 crowd Arsenal v West Ham = 60,000 Chelsea - (at home) = 40,000 Man Utd v Man City = 70,000 Man City v Burnley = 50,000 Tottenham v Man Utd = 60,000 Everton v Liverpool = 40,000 'One out - all out' - then. |
By:
it would be,they wouldnt just stop cheltenham
By:
If they shut it down now you’d not have any racing live for a couple of months minimum and could run into the first 2 classics on the flat. Get it on TV only and limit entry to trainers and owners. Football the same, play to empty stadiums, clubs don’t rely on gate money these days anyway.

I hate to have to say this but it is utterly obvious to anyone who has been looking at political decision making in this country over the past few years (and I am talking about both sides of the despatch box): any decision on a general approach to tackling coronavirus will be made by people who do not have the intellectual capacity to make the decision and/or who are concerned only about ensuring that their bum is still on a seat in 5 years time. That said, and as pointed out by many contributors, the media are even more clueless. They see it is their job to suggest the world may be coming to an end. An utterly useless bunch of hacks starting with most of the TV producers.
By:
Yep ^
By:
Agree Jimmy, it was the same here....but some sense prevailed and at least allowed it to continue, of course the HKJC punters do contribute nearly 12% of the tax revenue to the government so that might have swayed their decision making somewhat.

Don’t fancy city getting 50,000 against Burnley unless they gave Burnley an extra allocation of tickets.
