@Koi

Didn't look likely for a long way did it! Not looking to crab her, but she doesn't really have strong opposition for group 1 races does she. When the remainder of the field are separated by no more than 3L, it's hard to imagine those are the best 7-8f horses in Aus. Do the good horses run scared of her now, or is there just no stand out opposition out there ? I would like to see her up against some of the top UK milers that's for sure.

She always seems in an impossible position coming  from off the pace like that, but always gets the job done...probably not raced against much but it's the way she des it...I thought the trip could possibly on the short side, obviously it wasn't.

Lay Post

A short story, instead of the war and peace posts often associaed with my lay thread as i'm a little busy this morning and going for lunch in the city later.

Reverting to the sprint trip for my selection today (3 of the previous 4 posts were such, the last one a NR). I'm taking a risk as it's an unbeaten 2 year old, trained by Kevin Ryan (adept with sprinters) and has entries in 3 group races later in the season.

Ripon 2.40 Yousini

Whilst early entries in group races may indicate the owners or stable have confidence in a horse based on promise shown on gallops, they are simply that, entries. Middleton Park Racing syndicates often have promising lightly raced colts and filles in pattern races, in fact, they have Boitron and Raymond Tusk (Newbury) today and Maries Diamond (Deauville) tomorrow.

Yousini is obviously well thought of, but he has to improve significantly to have a resemblance of chance in those races, although that's possible of course.

A mixed pedigree, US dirt and turf. Twiced raced, both over 5f at Northern tracks. The trip today is 6f, but it shouldn't be an issue at all. I watched his video replays last night and visually, his debut win (ran green) was better than his win LTO, when although staying on, looked a little laboured in doing so, and the 3rd home (Lorton) may have been a little unlucky in running.

I rarely use times when selecting backs or lays, but in sprints i often check review them just as guidance to see how they compared with similar races on the card.

At Hamilton (class 4) Yousini was timed at 59.68 secs. Compare this to the other 5f race (class 6) with 58.39 sec after making all. Of course this is not significant as Yousini was making his debut, but his time was bettered by an inferior horse (he won off 67).

At Carlisle (class 4) it was a similar story, his time was 62.64 secs (making all) compared with the 5f race 30 minutes later, won in 61.76 secs (another inferiro horse rated 68) and came from off the pace.

Only guidance as stated, but something to consider at least (although not reasoning for the lay).

The betting may suggest it's between two in the race, but i think it's much closer, in fact even the outsider Tin Hat can't be ruled out even though he's quite exposed now, but is actually the joint highest rated in the field (off 92).

I was susrpised that Yousini was matched at 2.7 last night, in my opinion this was way too short. I would like to have posted there and then if i thought i could have got matched later, but i don't think it's fair posting so far in advance when liquidity is sometimes dire.

Kuwait Station is obviosuly a danger, having won twice over the trip, once on this course. He stays on very strongly. His debut win was good, he looked the winner 2f out (ran green late on). If I had to select the winner, it would be this one.

Of the others, Baronial Pride is in with a good shout and could be overpriced, as could Junius Brutus who is closely matched with Tin Hat on his Coventry run. He was fancied to win the race at 17/2 after 2 winning runs in France. Both he and Tin Hat finished in very close proximity to the AOB trained Van Beethoven, who has won a group 2 since.

I personally think Yusini has a lot to prove, and suspect his odds partly reflect the group race entries. Maybe he will win impressively and leave me with egg on my face, but at the odds, i feel he can be taken on, knowing we have 3 or even 4 on our side.

Other thoughts

I had considered laying Gustav Klint in the 3.35 Newbury today, i'm not a fan of the horse, but the concern is where the pace is coming from. I suspect he will try to make all. AOB stable form is poor, although he had a winner last night.

Matt Chapman disagrees with me, but that could be a positive Wink

For a back bet at EW odds, ive alread played Dark Power in the Great St Wilfred sprint at Ripon (3.15). Has to improve, but has a light weight, a mid-field draw (the field may split) and a top Japanese jockey on board. More of a fun bet as you could pick half the field and still not get the winner.

Good luck.

Mart (Burkey)

Ref the horse tip in the PM, thank you, although i would be concerned with the 5 months since last race. Good jockey and an enterprising entry by the trainer (distance is fine) but not for me. Good luck, hope it wins for you.

Koikeeper,

Thank you for the Winx link, much appreciated, i haven't seen the race yet, i'll watch it later.

Lampus,

I wouldn't worry too much about it, i did say lack of pace is a concern, i just feel the horse is over-rated somewhat.

I haven't laid it yet, although i may do later, although not significantly.

Irrespective of that, good luck Grin

Agree with you on GK - horse just looks slow (even in his Superlative Stakes win last year, could never understand the hype that came his way) and the drop in trip not sure to help.
As you say he may get a 'Moore masterclass' on the front end, but that would be about the first such ride by him this season as he has been dreadful lately.

Race looks to have plenty of depth so loads running for you.

Will follow you in on Yousini too if the orice comes back to 5/2 (currently 100/30).

Unclepuncle,

I don't think the drop to 7f is a significant issue.

RM will probably take him to the front from the off, i would be surprised if he didn't.

I certainly won't be backing anything in the race, if i had to, it would be Sir Dancelot.

Drift on Yousini Shocked but it doesn't surprise me to be honest, although i never imagined he would go as high as 4.5, although it's early days yet.

Good luck.

Gustav Klimt.
Won a G2 last season. - hard race hd.
FTO this campaign took an easy Listed, then raised to G1 level.
Now being dropped to collect at its best distance.
Anyway that looks the plan.

Not good enough to get me betting, but you can bet the trainer knows what he's doing.

The form of Youini looks sound.
Up in class and distance now after scraping in by a neck. Not obvious conditions to send it to win again if that's the idea.  Hard race LTO, coming back  after 71 days.

Kuwait Station has beaten little, but LTO did it by 7 lengths.
Whatever it beat 7 lengths is a performance to note and that's why it's favourite.
Up from class 5 to class 3.
Should stay further than this.

I wouldn't back either of them here.

Thank you for the comments guys.

The winner did it nicely in the end, and is probably the one to take out of the race.

I can't see Yusani running in the group races.

Not often you see 5 horses in a race trading between 4.4 and 6.0 at the off, but the earlier odds were wrong, specially last night/early morning.

I made an error in my original post stating Junius Brutus and Tin Hat had form from the Coventry, it wasn't, it was the Windsor Castle. Kuwait Station ran in the Coventry.

Kuwait Storm never looked happy on outside, was always hanging inward, I would forgive him that run, he'll do better on a galloping track.

I would personally take the Fahey horse out the race, had it been given any chance by it's rider at all it would have been 2nd at worse, watch the replay and you'll see what I mean.

Gustav Klint Grin (sorry Lampus)

Domino,

Yes i noticed Baronial Pride didn't get a clear in the final furlong in the race, although i doubt he would have won. I think he may do better over 7f.

They finished in heap behind the winner, so not much to choose between them. Tin Hat deserves credit, 9 races since April and he retains his form well.

Was amazed, though happy, that  Moore ride him the way he did - just made hi:m look even more one paced.
As I mentioned the race had great depth and I couldn’t rule any of them out of the places so it made sense to lay at under 1/2.

It's all about opinions, and i get it wrong as well as right. GK was the form horse and favourite, i just think he's over-rated. Good luck.

But Andrew, if you think he is over-rated then it’s 99.99% certain he really is over-rated. And if I agree with you then it’s a 100% certainty.Laugh
