Good morning Lampus (and all).
Thanks for clarifying the film (haven't seen it) i couldn't see what you were referring to, I was thinking of Gustav Klint, Sir Dancelot, Sea Biscuit, even champion the wonder horse ![]() Poor racing in UK today, but for once the French have excelled themselves, or at least Deauville has. The town was obviously under British rule once ![]() |

Hi Guys,
Looking through the UK cards today, a mixture of turf flat and NH, although there isn't anything that jumps off the page, backing or laying, at least in the context of confidence. I was hoping Hard Solution (same ownership as Kuwait Station) in the opener would be shorter in the betting (traded at 3.6 last night) as this one would have gone on a short list of lays. Raced 3 times, but has only beaten 6 horses in total and 4 of those were priced at 14/1, 16/1, 40/1 and 50/1. Whilst this is not necessarily a negative (and he did improve LTO) he's dropping back in trip and i feel this is. Additionally, if the likely favourite and speedily bred World Order could run to earlier marks (specially his York run) he would be a good thing. The once raced Don Logan is also in with a shout, he ran better than his 5th place may suggest LTO. I will watch the betting on this race throughout the morning. I tipped up Dagueneau on here to win LTO and he duly obilged with ease (albeit backed into 4/5f). I think he can win again in the 3.05. Improving for the step up in trip, his mark increasing 61-64-67-71-73. Runs off 75, has a 6lb penalty, and if the last run hasn't taken much out of him (unlikely) i feel he's still ahead of the handicapper. From those running at Southwell at 5/2 or under, i wouldn't lay any of them, although i'm not suggesting they will all win of course. If a gun was put to my head the selection would be Sheelbewhatsheelbe in the 4.25. Mixed form, but admirably consistant with respect to her rating that has fluctuated between 89 and 92. She runs off 95 today, although the Dan Skelton magic wand could negate this rise. Over in Ireland, a similar situation. I did notice Getareason running (3.15). Readers of my threads may remember she was a successful lay (odds of 2.52) in a bumper race at Punchestown. I wouldn't lay her today (over hurdles) but i certainly wouldn't want to back her at the 1.49 currently on here. Quality racing is in abundance across the Channel (precluding the lovely city of Hannover and Dusseldorf) with 4 pattern races at Deauville, featuring the 6f Prix Morny. British and Irish interest in all 4 races, in particular the current top rated filly Pretty Pollyanna (named after the owners daugher). Has good form overall (1-2-1) and impressive LTO even though she was assisted by scrimmaging behind but would still have won regardless. Watching the replay, she could have been the instigator as she drifted from centre of the course to the rail, and although no contact was made, Angels Hideway shied towards the same rail starting a snowball effect (Frankie was suspended for 10 days after the race). She has form in the book, is 5 lb clear on ratings and obviously a short price to win. I think she can, but i will not be backing her, nor will i lay her. The going will be soft today (only ran on good to firm) she's meeting colts for the first time and although the AOB stable is under a cloud, Land Of Force shouldn't be underestimated. Whoever wins, i don't think it will be Signora Cabello and if she shortens a little i will lay her. My idea of an EW shout is Sexy Metro who was just touched off by Pretty Pollyanna and the softer ground will be in her favour. At double figure odds i think she's value in the race. For those that think PP is a good bet, please do not let me put you off, it's all about opinions and she could bolt up. Finally to what i consider the best back bet (albeit at short odds) the CD winner Bateel who will appreciate the ground and is a useful mare. As an alternative I would be a layer of the William Haggas runner Urban Fox. Maybe an official lay post later. Good luck. |

To avoid any confusion (and i was after reading it
) note that Sheelbewhatsheelbe would be the 'gun to my head' lay, not a back. Thanks Lampus and likewise. |

I think you're trying too hard in this second thread. Lots of horses being 'mentioned' along the way.
The previous thread was a great read Back to basics please! |

Intheknow,
A valid post and point taken. It's only been over the past few days, generally on a void day (due to NR or simply no selection) but they were only my thoughts. The lay for the thread still remains as one designated in any single day for the p/l. Dagueneau a NR now. |

A pity about the price of Hard Solution (3/1) ....
Additionally, if the likely favourite and speedily bred World Order could run to earlier marks (specially his York run) he would be a good thing. Looks like he did ![]() A possible lay later |

Lay Post
Deauville aside, not a particularly good days racing in UK and Ireland although the listed race at Pontefract (3.35) is interesting, in fact, i even had Foxtrot Lady on a small short list of lays. I like Pepita at an EW price. She's been running over 7f in recent races, but i think 6f is her best trip. Rated 99, so has to improve a little, but ran well in a Group 3 at York recently and at the 20+ odds is an attractive price. Staying at the same meeting, i've been following betting on the 4.05 as there was another runner on the short list, but outside my 5/2 odds limit. This has now been negated due to a NR and i've decided to designate it as my lay. Pontefract 4.05 Completion Relatively lightly raced with 7 starts, 3 of them as a 2 year old on the AW when she progresed in each run. Won on debut as a 3 year old in a class 4 handicap at Redcar. Upped in class (2) next time out, and i watched video replay of the race earlier after reading the form lines. Crownthorpe (a runner today) finished 3rd in the race, 1.75L behind Completion (receiving 3 lb, yet receives 8 lb today) but the latter had first run (in the clear) and Crownthorpe had to burst her way through. She was eased slightly towards the line when her chance had gone. They are also closely matched on their last run at Goodwood, Completion (7th) beating Crownthorpe (9th) by just over 0.5L (who was receiving 8 lb). I appreciate minor placings down the field don't always reflect form so much, being ridden to protect handicap marks etc. Irrespective of this and taking everything into consideration there isn't very much between them, on paper at least. In my opinion Crownthrope is better at 8f (todays trip). Completion has gone off the boil in 2 recent runs and maybe she's a little too high in the ratings at the moment (runs off 95 today). Only 4 runners and each of them in with a chance, no more so than the Michael Stoute trained Georgian Manor (trainer has a good strike rate at Pontefract). She's also lightly raced (6 runs) receives 4l lb from Completion and could improve for the step up to a mile on a stiff track. The other runner Knighted, a winner LTO has to improve a little, but is on bottom weight and certainly not out of contention. With so few runners, it's difficult to know where the pace is coming from, although Georgian Manor made all to win her maiden at Beverley and she has the inside draw in stall 1 today. Although only 4 runners, a very open handicap and layers have 3 on their side, so i'm content with my selection as the lay. Good luck. willie,
Not editing to deceive anyone, or in a bad way, i simply layed it for more than the usual stake (as i do sometimes) and edited the post to make it £50 for the thread, not the total of £75. Simple error that i owned up to immediately i noticed after i posted. All my bets are posted pre-race obviously. Apologies anyway. |

Racing in Sweden ? I thought I read somewhere it's banned now.? Good luck with todays lay btw. |

Glasgow,
Thanks. Never seen live greyhound racing over here, although it used to be on local TV years ago. No idea if it's banned or not. They love trotting, it's big over here, as in other Scandinavian countries. |
