OK guys, off to make an honest living so no lay post for this afternoon, i'll take a look at the evening cards later.
As a back bet i think Dagueneau can win the 4.00 Beverley. Lightly raced and his mark has improved in each of his 4 handicaps 61-64-67-71 and he runs off 73 today. Up in class and trip, probably has to improve a little again, but receives a lot of weight. Trainer in form and only entry at Beverley. Not really a fan of Ed Dunlop, but i do like the jockey (Ben Curtis). Mart, Willie (Steve) doesn't play pre-race as a source of income, but makes a very good living in what he does. There can't be many on here that have exceeded a million profit. Why knock it ? I haven't seen the Saturday horse, please enlighten me. |

Andrew - not a great start but played some decent stuff at times but with no cutting edge. Possession no good if you do nothing with it, need to take a few more risks in the final third and also have our big man up front out another 3 games which is a massive loss.

A Bristol City fan whose username is named after a Swansea hero :O who was rubbish and past it by the time he put on the red and white ! I keep an eye on City, as a relative plays for them. That was 10-15m of player turned over by Plymouth in the week and an ex Gashead in goal as well ! Bet he loved that. Relegation battle looms in my opinion. They were lucky to get a point at Bolton on Saturday after some woeful defending. Odds for Aden Flint scoring the winner on Saturday please ? |

He had one great game for us...Still bangs them in non league. Going over there myself next week when we got them. Who is your relative if you can say?
Wouldn't be too concerned about the Plymouth scoreline tbh, not match fit players coming in, had 4 wing backs in defence as well, strikers never played together (and on just signed from league 2). I don't think we will be in a relegation battle either. Doubt we will be challenging for anything either. In all honesty if we had Diedhiou playing we could easily have had 2 wins from 2 in the league, but we haven't and have to just get on with it. Will be out for another 3 games and will struggle in all of them imo, and we haven't got anyone big up front who can hold the ball up as got rid of Duric. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Flint scores either as probably written in the stars. |

My relative is a marmite player, that's all I want to say. I don't look too much on forums, but he gets slagged off on Twitter a lot by some of your fans and he's now picked up an injury so least he wont be blamed this week ....

The only ones who has picked up injuries and get marmite treatment is the Fielding or Wright, other squad players are fit as far as I am aware. If you take comments at face value on Twitter you need sectioning!! ANyway I don't want to hijack the thread chatting about football so leave it at that.

Thank you Lampus,
I backed it this morning at just over 5/4, not sure i would have taken the 4/5 though. I haven't seen the replay yet, only got home 10 mins ago. Magic, thanks for the football write up, Middlesbrough on Saturday isn't easy, but the sort of game that could install some confidence. |

Lay Post
I didn't realise until earlier today that all my previous lay selections on this thread had been over sprint trips, and the two that won (or lost in my case) started with the letter S. My lay today is the same, but i'm playing safe in one respect (just in case) this time the race is over a staying trip of 14f. If the horse wins as the others, maybe i've found the perfect winning system, and we can all enjoy life with untold riches, much the same as one of our illustrious North of the border posters. Obviously a little humour in part of the above, but i guess most punters are superstitious in some respects, i rarely lay Silvestre De Souze rides for example. Salisbury 5.10 Supernova A small field of 4, but the outsider Rocky Shores is probably only running for place money, although races of this nature can occasionally turn tactical with odd results, so it wouldn't be a total shock if it won. Of the other 3, Winds Of Fire and Supernova (who are vying for favourtism) have similar profiles, each having run twice as 2/3 year olds, and are closely matched in the ratings with only a 1 lb between them (85 and 86 respectively). Praeceps is almost an old hand in comparison with 10 runs so far, but like so many of his type trained by Sir Mark Prescott is improving steadily after being upped in trip, and no doubt there is more to come. Concentrating on the lay, Supernova (a half brother to Muthmira who was rated 84) won on debut as a 3 year old in a class 5 maiden over 11f at Goodwood. At the time it didn't look anything out of the ordinary as the next 3 home were priced at 20/1, 33/1 and 25/1, although the 2nd and 4th have won handicaps since off marks of 79 and 90. His next run was in a class 4 handicap at Doncaster with only 5 runners, but it didn't look to have a lot of depth to it and as a consequence he was made the 4/6f. A little tardy at the start, but didn't lose much ground and raced from off the pace in 4th place, albeit close up. Off the final bend, and at the 3f furlong marker, Jamie Spencer challenged on the outside, but was hard at work in doing so, and punters who had taken the odds were maybe wishing they hadn't. Jamie had to keep working vigorously all the way to the line, the horse was also leaning on to the eventual 2nd, Past Master, who didn't have a lot of room on the rail as a result. I'm not suggesting the runner-up was unlucky, but it was only in the last 75 yards or so that Jamies mount started to assert, and he was receiving 4 lbs. Both his wins have come on good to firm going, but it will be good to soft/soft in places at Salisbury today and according to weather reports rain has been falling throughout the morning. Whilst this may not be an issue in itself, it will place more emphasis on stamina over a trip he's unproven on, and i don't associate Intello (sire) with stayer type offspring. Salisbury is uphill in the straight and can get testing in soft. Trainer (David Simcock) form is fair (10% last 14 days). Jamie Spencer has ridden him in all 4 races, but Ryan Moore takes the mount today. I wouldn't read too much into this (and it's certainly not reasoning for the lay) but odd all the same. Jamie rode at Salisbury yesterday, then Kempton in the evening (where he had a treble) but instead of returning to ride a possible favourite, he's gone to Yarmouth for the evening meeting, a much longer distance. Just a thought. Of his 2 rivals, Wings of Fire is proven over the trip on good to soft ground and appears to be an out-and-out stayer. Preaceps has won over CD before and actually won by 9L LTO, although it was a weak race, but like the outsider Rocky Shores, he does receive a fair bit of weight. My slight preference would be for Wings of Fire, who stayed on well over the trip LTO (his first run for 6 months) behind a well bred, John Gosden colt, who could be far better than class 4 in time. The 3rd and 4th have won since, the latter by 11L in a class 4 handicap. I feel he's the more progressive of the 4 runners and open to further improvement. A tricky race and layers have two running for them, with a squeak by the outsider, who at least ran his best race on soft going and will stay on, so this, together with my comments above are reasons for the lay. Good luck. Lay @ I typed this up at lunchtime ................. NR ![]() |

Lampus and Ghost,
Thanks for the sympathy ![]() It probably took me 30 mins or more to type the post and make the format more presentable, only for it to be a NR. I suspect it was the ground that's turning soft (one of the reasons for the lay as i stated). Never mind, the back bet won, although i was surprised it went to 4/5. I will take a look at the evening cards, but nothing sprung out at lunchtime. If i don't see anything it will have to be a void day. There is a 3 year old filly i like running in the 7.20 Leopardstown later Xenobia and i've had a small W/P on at a decent price (13 for the win). Recently bought by George Strawbridge whos owned a few decent ones in his time. An improving filly, won a G3 LTO and has a good overall record (2-1-1 at Leopardstown). Doesn't have to improve much to win. Good luck. |

Hi Guys,
Today is one such day providing substance to those that think there is too much racing, particularly in the UK. 8 meetings (including Ireland) covering 57 races, it was similar yesterday with 7 and 50 respectively, do we really need this much equine entertainment on a daily basis ? I'm not speaking in terms of betting per se, i appreciate we make our own decisions whether to bet or not, but there's far too many meetings and dross dross running, surely it devalues the thoroughbred gene in the long term. The one positive (at least in my case) it does give me more races compliant with my maximum odds limit to choose from. The sport of kings has also taken a backward step in the past decade or so, and is fleeced by exchanges and high street bookmakers (if the latter is the correct description these days). Racecourses are underfunded and many have resorted to providing a platform for B-list artistes that sadly has attracted the non-racing fraternity and is actually driving some racegoers away. Maybe it's just a sign of the times, but in my opinion, not a good sign. Rant over ![]() I did have quite a few selections on a short list last night, but as so often the case, they've drifted outside my odds constraint overnight and during the morning (I can't post from Saab). I was tempted to lay an AOB 3 year old running at Dundalk this evening, quite possibly the lowest rated in his stable (or at least close) although conversely, one with the best breeding in the race, Royal Navy Warship (favourite). He didn't show anything as a 2 year old, has a poor draw on the outside, the stable is not in top form (last 22 runners have all lost). My only concern is it looks a weak race and he may improve for the Polytrack (only raced on turf). I may still decide on this one, but as i've finished work early today, i have a couple of hours or so. I also had Cale Lane (2.00 Nottingham) on the list. She hasn't drifted, but i was hoping she might be priced around the 3.6 mark (currently 3.9). Won LTO, but different conditions today. It's an open handicap, and there's a couple of CD winners (on soft) capable of winning. I've actually had a fun EW bet on one of them at a big price, Socalites Red who has a good record here. I think Ryan Moore can get favourite backers off to a good start with Fox Power, but i wouldn't want to back it too short. He was well touted beforehand and finished 3rd in a good class 2 maiden at Goodwood LTO (won last year by Dee Ex Bee). Thw winner had previously run 3rd in the Chesham stakes at Royal Ascot. The only possible issue is the softer going, but i don't think it will be an problem. I had considered laying Cloak And Dagger in the race, but layers would really only have one running for them (and slim chance with the Frankel newcomer). It's ironic that CAD was withdrawn from the Fox Power race. |
