I also like Top Notch and think it will have too much pace for Double Shuffle who looks to need farther than this now.

Thanks Madrigal and Ghost.

WD to all of us with Top Notch, it looked good on paper and was well backed this afternoon. I couldn't understand the gamble on 00 Seven at all. Daryl Jacob having a good day and it could get better.

FWIW, i fancy Spades Are Trumps in the 5.35. I put a thread up for this one LTO, but it
was never in the race and pulled up. It has an EW squeak at a good price.

Mwtt, more than a minefield Wink

It was more of a fun bet at a decent price, but I think if had started with the runners in the previous race, it still wouldn't win this one. At least it got a mention in the commentary.

Thanks guys, 6/6 so still on course and 2 days to go until month end Grin

There was a minor drift on Mr Adjudicator this afternoon, but i was really surprised at the gamble on Stormy Ireland, it ended up as 15/8 fav, yet was trading in the 5's when i posted. It was the same in the Triumph, 13/2 into 9/2, in both cases the horse fell when held.

The winner was beaten 25L by Farclas in the Triumph, and beat him 8.75L today, over 33L turn-around. He did run much better LTO, so is obviously improving at a rate of knots.

Farclas ran too badly to be true (5th). Has anyone noticed the form of his trainer, Gordon Elliott at the festival ? I went through the results and think he only had 2 winners and one of those was lucky. Prior to the festival he was turning out winners for fun. Is it down to WPM festival domination or maybe his horses are running flat.

Mr Adjudicator 2nd @100/30

Daily profit £50
Running total proft (6/6) £300

A Betfair 999/1 winner ends the Punchestown festival for another year, and there will be many punters who are glad to see the back of it, but personally i don't share the negativity, it is what it is, we all know this from previous years, and it gave me 3 successful lays.

It's recently become a Mullins vs Elliott shoot-out, albeit one-sided, and that's not going to change in the short term future, but at least we get to see some high class Irish hurdlers and chasers. The handicaps are notoriously difficult to fathom, there are shock results, hype, drama, often heavy going and far too many bumpers, but the Cheltenham, Aintree and Fairyhouse festivals are not so different in some of these respects, and at least it makes for good television. I would rather watch another day at the festival than the typical Sunday fare on show in UK today, and unfortunately i don't have racing channels for ParisLongchamp.

Only Wetherby and Salisbury offer us entertainment today, the latter course being the venue of Mill Reefs' 2 year old debut (a lifetime ago) where he beat Fireside Chat who was 2/9 !. The oldies may remember this. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and I have no doubt some of the Ian Balding stable are still counting their winnings.

A total of 15 races today, 11 of which are handicaps, most with odds outside my preferred 5/2 limit for this lay thread, in fact, only 6 currently fall within this category, and 4 of these are trained by John Gosden that could be anything. My choices are therefore limited and i would prefer not to post a lay, but it makes it more of a challenge.

2.40 Wetherby Sailing Home

A couple of 4th places in fillies maidens last year, but the form looks average at best and hasn't been strengthend by those that have run since. Steps up in trip, although may prefer further, and I suspect she will be running in handicaps later in the season, maybe even at Ascot or Windsor so the owner doesn't have to travel far in her advancing years (bless her).

Speaking of high profile owners (albeit of a lesser status) John Gosden trains the favourite, Award Winning, a well bred filly that ran at Newmarket recently (winner looked useful) although she was slowly away and didn't really sparkle, but will have learnt from the experience and this looks a weaker race. JG will have a good indication of how his filly stands with Sailing Home as he trains the 3rd and 5th in the latters race at Doncaster. There isn't a lot of depth to the field, but i also have a couple of newcomers and a previous winner running for me.

Good luck.

The crop of 1970 2 year olds was probably the best of my lifetime . A few names in no particular order ...Mill Reef,My Swallow,Brigadier Gerard ,Green God, Cawston's Pride.

I too remember the Fireside Chat race which if memory serves me well I listened to in a bookmakers in Wardour Street.

Good luck, Andrew.

I see they're now including paddock comments in the RP alongside the comments in running and Award Winning got a "strong; looked well" on debut. So she's a paddock positive, not that I'm one for the dark art of paddock watching!

I liked the debut run of Sailing Home at Nottingham when I thought she was unlucky not to go closer (looked to me like she was denied a clear run (though this is not noted in the RP comments), before displaying a good way of going to hit the line well.
Her pedigree would strongly suggest she's going to be better for going up in trip, her dam being a Group placed 12 / 14f winner, out of a Vermeille / Park Hill winner.

The Doncaster run was a disappointment on the back of that, and although there was juice in the ground at Nottingham, just wonder if soft ground is ideal being by Shamardal. I'm confident she'll be winning races based on pedigree, and what I saw at Nottingham, but today against a race fit rival, a nagging query about soft ground, and let's just say handicaps being an option after this, I'd rather watch, but I wouldn't be brave enough to lay her!

The mdn form couldn't look much weaker tbh

only 4 subsequent places (no wins) from the nottingham event and no places from 9 subsequent runs from Donny but it has to be said, none of the top 5 have re emerged so not such a guide.

It's amazing that a horse carrying a 7lb penalty was 2/9 to beat Mill Reef (rated 141) over 5f in an 'average maiden at Salisbury Wink

Totally agree posy, the late 60's and early 70's was superb. Add Sir Ivor, Royal Palace, Nijinsky and a little later Grundy et all. The 1971 2000 guineas is probably the best field of all time.

My Swallow was the highest rated 2 year old in UK and France, but didn't train on and win after the guineas.

Years ago GEORGE.B. Raceform always used to include paddock descriptions in the form

Like good sort, strong, neat, leggy, workmanlike, LW (looked very fit) another one was HDW - has done well (during the break.)

The ''good sort'' comment would attract plenty of attention for the future.
