Cheers Dr Crippen, I was wondering what LW meant, sure I saw that one recently.
Presumably Sailing Home was a gift to Her Majesty from Sheikh Mohammed, given she's Godolphin bred. |

Good Lord, fancy laying a horse that's owned by the Queen
DC, don't worry, it was her that gave me the nod today ![]() Slicer, agree, but not much movement on any of them this morning, although i wouldn't change the lay unless the favourite was a NR. George/striding, also agree, and it appears we are all on the same wavelength. |

Another comment widely used was BKWD (backward in condition.)
Yet plenty of these would win, all one can take from that was that either the horse was a cracker, the race was run at a snails pace, it was a youngster with plenty of potential, or in a handicap it was the only one that was off! |

Good luck AIS, just my opinion but think sailing home is a risky lay, although it's a 10 runner novice stakes the older horses have to give the 3 year olds too much weight and out the 6 left there are 3 to concentrate on, there's not much confidence in the burke newcomer so imo you probably only got the fav running for you.
I've took the 1/2 on cracksman, I've read the other thread about how fit the horse will be but think Gosden too good a trainer to send one of his stars half fit to France for a Group 1 (600K) race plus Frankie only going for the one race is a massive plus imo. GL all. |

Mwtt, any lay at relatively short odds is a risk, but how much of one is based on several variables. Due to my preferred 5/2 (ball park) odds limit for this thread, there weren't many races left to chose from today anyway, and i narrowed it down to a couple. The 2 newcomers can't be discounted in my opinion, especially the Burke trained High Chapperal filly, and it wouldn't surpise me if she won. I don't really fancy the only winner in the field, but he's only 12.5's, so not out of it. I feel OK with the lay for the pre-mentioned reasons.
Good luck with Cracksman ![]() |

Correct George, and from what i hear Liz 2 was watching the race on RUK as she had a L15 on and her horse was the final leg, with 3 others already gone in. Apparantly, and i can't confirm this, but after the race, the butler was seen trying to remove a diamond encrusted crown that was embedded in a 60" HD screen. She was heard to say, and i quote "some f**king gift that was, why couldn't the Sheik buy me a woollen scarf for Xmas like most people. If Michael Bell thinks i'm paying the April monthly bill for it, he can s*d off, in fact, i've a good mind to tell him to pass it on as a wedding gift to some American wench joining the clan next month. Damn and blast, i should have read Andrews' lay of the day thread on Betfair before placing my bet" |

Very good Andrew.
You prefer the Flat or jumps for this Andrew, or are you not bothered either way? |

By:
No preference George, and i back horses as well as lay them. I love the sport in general and have done ever since i was an under-age punter and had a bet in a Grand National several lifetimes ago, or at least if feels that long ago.
The first race i saw live was Jacinths 1000 guineas, a race she was expected to win. When i lived in UK (pre-1984) i used to go racing, but i've only been to 8 courses over there, although i've also been to several around the world, including the Arc where i'm a regular since Detroit won, although missed about 10 of them. I get over to UK often, but only go to the occasional major race, maybe only 1-2 a year, although i saw Frankel on 4 occasions. Flukes, no way, i love my current job, being a trader would bore me. |

I think you should keep going until your unbeaten run comes to an end Andrew. The thread could still be going this time next year
![]() Doesn't have to be every day if time doesn't permit for adequate study. |
|
By:
LOL George, even 999/1 would look skinny
![]() I don't want to aftertime, but the year before last i had an incredible run, although i didn't have a limit on the odds then, and that makes it significantly easier. Using a limit of 5/2 or thereabouts is OK for this thread, but i doubt i could keep it going for much longer, and it would be pointless (and boring) putting up lays around 6/1 for example. I've actually enjoyed it. I don't know if i will continue the thread after close of play on Monday, it was only a 'fun' project for a 8 day period to month end anyway, with a target of 8/8. I'm convalescing at home after illness (not serious) so i have a lot of time on my hands at the moment. |

Thanks for all the comments guys.
Sailing Home ran as well as expected, even allowing for her tail flashing when she was joined, and although the winner looked laboured in challenging for the lead (still a little green maybe) the writing was on the wall inside the final furlong where the uphill finish suited her, and she was well on top at the line. There's obviously a gulf of class between the two and she will be going for much better races in future, although there are no fancy entries for her yet. Although it wasn't an issue, I don't think either filly really enjoyed the going, that was changed to soft, heavy in places after the first race, and this is borne out by time of the race that was 12.5 seconds slow. The favourite was well backed in the 15 minutes preceding the race, as were a couple of the newcomers, but Sailing Home drifted a little. Sailing Home 2nd @3/1 Daily profit £50 Running total profit (7/7) £350 Another lay tomorrow |
