The favourite was up with the pace throughout, but never looked like winning. It may do better over further next season, but it's certainly not anything out of the ordinary yet.

I thought the winner Dunvegan ran and stayed on really well, and could turn out useful in future. In my 11.53 post, i mentioned he was beaten easily by Pallasator LTO, so boosting the form of the latter who runs tomorrow in the 6.05, although i'm not suggesting he will win.

Getareason 3rd @ 7/4f

Is Crystal Ocean under consideration for tomorrow's lay?

Mouse and SL, not from me. I like the horse, he's 4lb (minimum) ahead on ratings, lightly raced for a 5 year old and open to more improvement, won first time out as a 4 year old and has group race experience. The distance is a little short of ideal, but Sandown has an uphill finish and he was placed in the Dante, so it's not a mega negative. I think he will win, but good luck to both of you.

From my own laying perspective, today is not easy, many large fields and out of a total of 45 races, only 15 of them even have a runner priced at 5/2 or less (at time of posting).

Andrew, good points on Ocean. It's merely the overall form of Stoutes yard that has led me to lay it. His horses appear to be needing the run.

I've backed CO, stoutes form is a worry (1/27) this season but he always starts slowly and he always does well with the horses he don't push and gives them time, ulysses comes to mind last season 12th in Derby off 87(season before) ends up winning Juddmonte rated 127. With being a drop in class for CO and syoutes top rated 3 year old (120) think it will be too good even if not 100% fit.

My lay for today is Knightly Spirit should be able to lay at 2/1 has it will be popular if not happy to lay 9/4 on off.

Gl all.

Several large fields, open handicaps and a few short priced 'good things' today don't make the task of finding a lay at 5/2 or under any easier, in fact, from a total of 45 races, only 15 have runners that currently fall into this category anyway. My selection is that price with high street bookies, and higher above my desired odds here (i did state ball-park) but not significantly and has been under.

5.30 Punchestown Melon

Undoubtedly a class horse, but i've never really been a fan of him and feel he's more of an Arctic Fire type (also trained by WPM) and never going to reach dizzy heights of the elite hurdlers ladder, although he will be placed in group 1's, albeit aided by small fields and lack of top class competition.

Looking at his overall form, it's not exactly impressive, even though his runner up place in a Cheltenham champion hurdle would indicate otherwise. I do appreciate he ran well there, but if you take out the winner Buveur D'air (who may not have liked the heavy ground) the close proximity of Mick Jazz, who although rated 156, is no more than 'useful' in my opinion. Prior to this he was beaten an easy 12L by Supersundae in the Irish champion hurdle. Some of those he has finished behind include Cilaos Emery (142) and Labaik (144) that doesn't really scream out, nor does a win record of 3/11.

He's meeting a strong favourite in Samcro, although this one will be tested has to improve on ratings) and even putting the hype on ice, i feel this one could be the next Faugheen. A beast of a horse, who travels well and has gears. Unbeaten in 8 (including 2 x P2P's) and the form of his win in the Ballymore couldn't have worked out better. The 2nd Black Op has won at Aintree since, the 3rd New Destination won here on Wednesday and the 6th Vision des Flos was runner up here on Tuesday.

There are realistically only a couple in the race to beat my lay, so it's not a gimme, but I think Samcro will win cosily enough to reinforce Cheltenham 2018 CH aspirations, although a chasing career is a possibility. I wouldn't be surprised to see Min run into 3rd place at good odds back over hurdles. I, like most of us i guess, am really looking forward to this race.

Lay @ 3.85

Good luck all

Mwtt, i did look at Knightly Spirit, but he may have run into a decent one of Charlie Applebys LTO (entered in the Irish Derby) so I decided to leave it. I've also backed Crystal Spirit. Good luck.

Thanks AIS, yes am taking a chance with this one, lightly raced Varian, up in trip will be in it's favour and got 7lb pull with ship of the fen although the more rain better for that one. That's why 9/4 will be best price I want to lay.

Gl with Melon you've got the mighty Samcro with you Cool

When you lay, it's obviously good to have a few runners with a shout on your side (like i did yesterday) unless you're really confident of the likely winner, and Samcro hits the spot today, although he's not a certainty.

Mind you, if he turns in a bad one, or falls, then i'm probably only relying on Supersundae, but I still have a hunch about Min putting in a good one today. He was useful as a hurdler, don't forget he was runner up in the supreme behind Altior, and beat Buveur D'air and Supersundae.

It's a bit too big for me the price on Melon. It may be a confident lay but I haven't got the bottle to lay that high kiss of death if I do, it will win. Not going to follow you on this one Andrew but good luck anyway. I'll stick with my hunch on CO as my only lay of the day.
