The marked improvement a lot of Nathaniels were showing from 2 to 3 last season?
|
|
By:
Same with Galileo's but you go skint backing them all, I agree with Andrew it's only fav because of trainer.
|

When he ran at York last season I noted he had a knee action, not that it always indicates a preference for soft ground. The step up in trip looks sure to suit on pedigree, the dam being a 10f winner out of a half-sister to an Oaks winner.
I thought our cyber-friend domino might have been on as he has a line to the Haggas runners on the gallops. |
|
By:
Yes we need Domino is it a back or lay? Still a lay for me FWIW
|
|
By:
Not by the end of May last season you wouldn't have
Nathaniels in Hcps: L511121 (wins inc. 20/1, 14/1, 10/1) |

Good stats George so lay the shorties and back the double figure ones.
|
|
By:
Given they tend to be grinders on the racecourse I wouldn't expect them to be doing impressions of Dayjur on the gallops

Doesn't appear to be much confidence in the ring.
Probably as good a guide as you'll get to it's chances today. |

The first 5 finished in a bit of a heap, but it looked as though the challenge of Cristal Spirit in the final furlong was going to be enough (beaten a neck). I did state i had 7 in with a shout running for me, but to be honest i didn't expect Immortal Romance to win, although it did run 3rd on the course last year. The 2nd in that race has won since, and the winner has won a listed race.
After some initial backing this morning (mentioned in the SL) it did drift late on. Cristal Spirit 2nd @ 7/2 Daily profit £50 Running total profit £100 Another lay tomorrow |

Looking at todays cards, it's difficult to find a lay i feel reasonably confident about, although there are several at longer odds. I did consider Getabird at Punchestown as i'm still not convinced he's the real deal, and he's probably reliant on heavy ground, that he won't have today, but as yesterday, i will remain with flat racing.
11/10f finished unplaced |

It's not easy to find a lay of 5/2 or less on the flat today (I was hoping James Cook at Epsom would be shorter) so it's north of the border to NH racing.
2.35 Perth Scorpion Sid Runner up in a PTP last season and easy winner of 2 class 4 novice hurdles, although looking at the form of the latter there doesn't appear to be much depth to it, additionlly, both wins on heavy going, so distances may have been exaggerated. It will be soft today, but the going shouldn't be an issue to any of the runners. Whilst he's obviously progressing, and may turn out useful in time, he's significantly up in class and trip today, and meeting a more experienced, good type in Callet Mad (rated 7lb superior) a C/D winner. and the form of his Musselburgh win reads well in the context of this race. NTD has found a nice little black type race for his high profile connections. It looks like Knockrobin has to find a little more, but is certainly not out of it. Lay @ 2.76 Good luck all. 5-Apr-18 08:48:30 14:35 Perth Scorpion Sid - Win Betfair Bet ID 1:123433940191 | Matched: 25-Apr-18 08:50:09 Lay 2.76 50.00 88.00 50.00 Matched |

Best of luck,Andrew, interested to see if betting to fixed liability or fix stake the better strategy.
|
|
By:
Thanks tanglefoot, I lay horses often, but don't use fixed stakes as I have done for the sake of this thread (or liability). Unless you keep the lays to a low/small range of odds, and have a high rate of success, i don't see a significant benefit.
When i do lay, my stake is generally based on the reasoning and confidence level i have about it. Some would disagree, but betting is about opinions anyway. |

Bit late arriving on this one, missed the first two, but followed you in with this one. My record for laying is terrible hope I have not put a bok on it.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Virgin, not really a brave lay, but i understand what you mean with respect to only 3 runners, although there was a gulf between form of the main 2. On one hand, you had an experienced novice with experience in group races, winning form in a decent class 2 beating Cresswell Legend who is useful, a C/D winner and ground wasn't a worry. On the other hand, a novice hurdler who had won a couple of egg and spoon class 4's of dubious form, in heavy going, albeit easily. Although progressive, he had something to prove today and didn't. I'm surprised he was rated only 7lb below the fav, although it's easy to say after the race (beaten by 31L). Scorpion Sid 2nd @ 15/8 Daily profit £50 Running total profit £150 (3 days) Another lay tomorrow |
