I'd say plenty has gone wrong Lee, a couple of marginal decisions not to back and near misses and it's a different ball game.

Early days, looking forward to the heart of the season this year!

GL with the 2yo Glasgow Wink

Not the very strongest signals profile wise for the Zetland Gold Cup today, a race which the yard has landed for the past 2 seasons. The race has tended to favour runners near the top of the weights (including the stables recent winners) but it has to be said this year the top rated horse is  pretty much leaving the others in a bit of a clump behind.

Rainbow Rebel does look the pick of the 2 with less exposure at this distance and beyond. A couple of runs back for this class of hcp has been just the ticket and having watched the last run back a few times it wasn't a bad effort at all up the inside (shape of race quite similar ratings wise).Looks a likely long term target from last season for this horse and he certainly wouldn't be the first horse to resume progress at 4 with this sort of exposure at trip and class.Any sort of deterioration in the ground should not be a problem if the rain hits.

Beardwood doesn't tick quite so many boxes with much more exposure on the factors I like to place weight on, you can forgive the HQ run on return with perhaps fitness and distance issues and in the back of one's mind putting a poor York effort firmly behind has certainly been known for the yard's runners.Over all though a lot of exposure at class without success despite conditions obviously being favourable (including a CD win).

Both runners have to break the class barrier here and neither fits the yard's recent race profiles but RR to me as the market suggests does look the likelier.

So not the greatest confidence but worth splitting a point weighted firmly towards RR.

Rainbow Rebel (£8), current price 9.0
Beardwood (£2), current price 17.0

This Dominating is in a strong profile group in the market top 3 (10-22, 3-3 for Franny) with the class drop and upped in trip to new distance in this hcp classification, soft ground could also have been a real issue last time at York where a lot of the yard's runners seem to struggle anyhow.Marked it down at Goodwood as possibly needing the run and definitely looked very one paced over 10f there that day, looked to be falling out the back when under pressure but was actually staying on again closing stages.Perhaps this sort of test could be more suitable now and hopefully the experience edge over a few of these today can see Franny getting the gelding home in front.

Each to their own.

If you fancy his short runners

stick them up before the race DB

It's a bit annoying hearing afterwards that you've backed them

just a bit of forum etiquette Wink

I think he'll stay DB. Wouldn't have the usual profile for the Dante with so many runs but scored there, Certainly not got a typical Derby profile, would usually be something far less exposed winning at Epsom, would love to see it though!

Prices no great shakes at Musselburgh in the next, everyone saw Time To Study running on last time at Newbury and Mister Manduro may bounce back here (form in front of permian and sofias rock is very decent now) after looking all at sea under pressure rolling around at HQ but has seen the price reduced significantly now.

Wouldn't give up on The Blues Master but this looks a bit hot and having thought Chester was likely to be too tight last time, Still not sure this track would be ideal either.Perhaps a less competitive race on a more galloping track in future.
