Contrapposto, 1pt EW @ 40-1, 3.30 York
A little on the speculative side maybe, but at big odds Contrapposto makes a little EW appeal in the Dante. He very much caught the eye at York last season in the valuable 7f Convivial Maiden at the Ebor meeting that was won by Rivet, making up plenty of ground from an unpromising position to be a strong-finishing second; he then won his maiden over a stretch-mile at Nottingham, before failing to make an impact in the Racing Post Trophy that was won by the aforementioned Rivet. Contropposto finished behind Rivet for a third time when they finished second and fourth in the Craven Stakes on their reappearances, but that was no disgrace given how well Rivet then ran in the French Guineas. The way Contropposto stayed on at Newmarket and his pedigree (half-brother to a German 12f Group 1winner and out of a Rainbow Quest mare) would suggest that longer trips should suit well. Contropposto has a few pound to find on the figures, but with the gound having turned soft at York it could come down to who handles conditions best, so with the potential for further improvement up in trip, he looks worth risking at big odds for the minimum EW stake. Injam, 1pt EW @ 28-1, 5.35 York Injam shapes like a thorough stayer who goes well on soft ground. He appreciated the step up to 14f on soft ground at Haydock last season when galloping on too strongly for subsequent Grade 2 winning hurdler Project Bluebook. He probably ran a good deal better than his finishing position suggested in the Melrose Handicap at the Ebor meeting, given he was on the sharp end for that strongly run handicap and the ground was probably faster than ideal. Injaam was beaten nearly 60 lengths on his reappearance in a Class 2 handicap at Newcastle seven weeks ago, dropping right out having raced keenly behind the leaders, but no surprise if he's a different proposition under these softer conditions, with his mark having eased to 80 and being just 3lb above what he won off at Haydock. |

Cheers.
Think they had to send a search party out for Contrapostto. I was hoping it was going to be on the soft side for Injam, but the Dante was a quick time and they've just gone under standard for that last race, so doubt there's any soft left in the ground. Drainage system there clearly doing a good job! |

Great call, George.
I had Injam in a double with 1.51 in-running loser An Fear Ciuin! ![]() I've also got it in a small double with Sybarite(610 Font) and Louie The Second(700 Clon), so all is not lost yet.... :) |

Cheers all.
Soz if I put anyone away with the ground Dunno what's going on with it ![]() It was just a 3 runner race he won at Haydock last season, but the way he disposed of Project Bluebook that day made me think he was one to take seriously on soft ground. Good luck, Vince. |
