easygold, you may have a point. He's a half-brother to that good old stick Number Theory, so all I can suggest is up in trip again and / or another try on turf. |

Hope you changed your mind, saddo.
Yes kiw, she briefly threatened for a place but was soon left behind. Looks like both are going to need calmer waters / fillies handicaps at lower grade tracks, on that evidence. Oh well, not great tbh, but one dart thankfully managed to hit the bullseye to save the day and get the thread back into the black. |

Time for my 'Arkwright' moment
![]() It's been a funny old day, the form of Azam's HQ maiden from last year franked when the winner came out and won the Craven, not that it made much difference to how Azam ran yesterday ![]() Akhlaaq, looks a bit of a live wire, either needs gelding and / or dropping to 5f and allowed to get on with it (IMO). Cheers Virgin!
A couple running at Dundalk that have already been selected on the thread previously and are being given another chance. Dandy Rock, 8.25 Dundalk, 1pt EW @ 20-1 Dandy Rock caught my eye over C/D three starts back, putting in some good late work from off the pace having possibly not been best positioned how the race panned out; he was then stepped up to 10f at the track on his next run and there seemed to be some money around him, but he offered little. I selected him on turf when he ran at Cork last Saturday, when he was equipped with a tongue tie for the first time, but he was never in it and could make no impression from off the pace. Connections now reach for blinkers, he has a potentially helpful draw to work from, and Colin Keane is an encouraging booking, so he's given another chance for the minimum EW stake, over the C/D he was notebooked over. Rosenborg Rider, 1 EW @ 25-1, 8.55 Dundalk Formerly trained by Ralph Beckett, Rosenborg Rider caught the eye over 6f at this track on his first start for new connections, taking a keen hold well in rear, not getting the clearest of runs in the straight, before keeping on well. In that race was also Rapid Applause, and I selected them both when they next reappeared over 6f at Naas. Rapid Applause was strong in the betting that day and got a lovely run down the outer to win, whereas Rosenborg Rider was sent off at big odds, probably wasn't best positioned held up on the far rail and was never involved. He's back on the AW here (surface on which he showed his best form for RB), steps back up in trip to 7f which he won't have a problem with, and again Colin Keane is an encouraging booking from a handy draw. |

Super Julius, 2pts win @ 7-1, 8.00 Bath
Super Julius showed a fair level of form as a juvenile, notably when finishing 6th of 23 in the Super Sprint at Newbury when having to concede 13lb to both subsequent Group 3 winner Mrs Danvers and subsequent Listed winner Clem Fandango, as well as 9lb to subsequent valuable sales race winner Stormy Clouds (who ended up rated in the 90s); he also had a low draw that day and was drawn away from the main action. It's easy enough to make excuses for his 3 subsequent defeats, upped to 6f at Chester and getting involved in a speed duel that set it up for the only other runner in the race, then having over-raced in a competitive nursery at the Ebor meeting, before ending his juvenile campaign with a luckless run at Chester having been dropped in from a wide draw. He is undoubtedly a well-handicapped horse on that Super Sprint form, and he returns having been gelded, dropped 7lb from his initial mark to one of 81, and dropped markedly in grade to class 4. Two concerns regarding his chance today are fitness returning from a break and whether he wants the ground rattling, but no surprise if he turns out to be well handicapped, even if today the run is needed or the ground is too quick. |

GL George. I backed Goodwood lto and would not be surprised if the improvement continued, nowt in the price for me today, I'll look later. I like The Jean Genie 3.40, drifting at present. Are them Frankel progeny still rippin it up? I see the info no longer exists on sporting life.

One of his won the Craven yesterday saddo, and it would be disappointing if he didn't get something Group 1 class given the quality book of mares he was sent.
Good luck today. If I could be sure about fitness / ground, Super Julius would be quite a confident pick against these, but the computer is saying no currently and out to 10s with the books. I've moved the market again! I think it's chav and Skinto laying them ![]() The 2 Dundalk picks are currently proving easy enough to back. |

Saturday
Bossy Guest, 1pt EW @ 40-1, 3.40 Newbury There was enough evidence last year to suggest Bossy Guest still retains plenty of ability, shaping well in a handicap at Meydan when not getting much luck in running up the straight, and also in major handicaps on home soil, finishing 6th of 28 in the Royal Hunt Cup despite not getting the clearest of runs, and then when not disgraced in the Bunbury Cup despite having given himself a mountain a climb. The trouble with Bossy Guest is that he doesn't always fancy coming out of the stalls, often slowly away and markedly so the last time he was seen, when virtually refusing to race in the valuable International Stakes at Ascot. However, he has been gelded since and if that focuses his mind more on being a racehorse then he certainly has the ability to be competitive of his mark, particularly when you consider his close proximity to subsequent big improver Labrisa Breeze in the Royal Hunt Cup when conceding 7lb to him. |

Dandy Rock 1.5 IR and not even in the frame
![]() I'd say that was an example of the use of whip costing a horse, it was constant whack, whack, whack, until eventually the horse collided with the rail. Horse was running on for him, not sure that was necessary ![]() |
|
By:
A small profit on the day thanks to Rosenborg Rider finishing second (25-1 early price).
Super Julius went from the front, was a bit keen and didn't see it. I think a bit more composure and patience (IMO) from Colin Keane on Dandy Rock and he places at least. Seemed to move into contention well enough but he's gone for his whip early, put the horse under strong pressure and the result was the horse drifted left into the rail and dropped out of the places late on after trading short IR. Running Totals P/L : +4.50 Win stat: 6/47 (13%) Place stat: 15/47 (32%) Points staked so far: 84 Points lost on multiples: 7 (included in overall P/L) |

Foresight, 1pt EW @ 16-1, 2.20 Thirsk
Formerly trained by David SimcOck and purchased for £23K by his current owners, Foresight ran an interesting race over 7f at Newcastle on his second start for Kevin Ryan, soon building up a clear advantage and holding the lead until the half-furlong marker, where he was swamped by the field, but to his credit despite having seemingly done plenty at a track it's difficult to make all at, he wasn't beaten far despite ending up last of the eight runners. The drop back to 6f looks the way to go on that evidence, and he eases slightly in grade here, while his previous form suggests he's fine on turf. A slight concern is his low draw, however, last season a low draw at times seemed an advantage at the track, though that said, given the pace he showed last time it's possible his jockey will seek to cut across to the stands' rail. |

Okool, 6.30 Nottingham, 2pts win @ 3-1
Okool caught the eye on both his starts as a juvenile in Doncaster and Newmarket maidens, both of which can be viewed as strong form through certain horses, with Group placed The Anvil contesting the Doncaster race and the subsequent Craven Stakes victor winning the Newmarket contest. Okool met with significant interference on both occasions and can be rated better than the bare form. The Stoute-trained fav seems very strong in the early betting markets, and there are also 'unknowns' in the shape of Gosden & Godolphin newcomers, but as things stand, given the level of form shown by Okool in his two maidens, with potential for improvement up in trip on pedigree, he has to be call at the prices, granted it's a bit of a guess as to how they've wintered. |
