Timeless - you're going back a while
. I collect racing caricatures by a bloke generally known as The Tout. One of them on my study wall shows owner/trainer Major Noel Furlong and his son Mr Frank Furlong. Probably done around the time they won the 1935 National with Reynoldstown. Reynoldstown of course won again the following year ridden by another young amateur called Fulke Walwyn. In the caricature, Frank is wearing his dad's colours of Yellow with Blue sleeves and cap. |

Helena Springfield is Meon Valley Stud, successful with G1 winner Speedy Boarding last year and recently with Jazzi Top, Izzi Top etc. In essence they race what they don't sell at Book 1, or sometimes keep something from a family they particularly like or have scaled down.

I would imagine it is a lot easier to look across a tee box at your opponents in a Saturday fourball than stand in a parade ring looking at some agent that has fooked you over.Always admired the man who owned Moscow Flyer. They never got him in again. You can only think he saw the big jar of Vaseline fall out of one their pockets and knew what was in store for him.Fair play to him.

'big' owners come and go in this sport. For a lot of them the novelty wears off when the 'hobby' becomes more like a business. Those that are fortunate enough to own a top class horse are quickly paraded by the media as the dons of the sport but not when they own a lot of duds.Wasn't so long ago people were claiming that racing in this country would go to pot if it weren't for the Maktoums but in hindsight would we really miss Goldolphin?Only got to watch the racing from Meydan to see what a load of crap they own and the lack of representation in our top races recently goes unnoticed.
