Obvious one is Clive Smith, who had Kauto and master minded but fell out of love with the game, a strange man.
Also notice Andy Stewart doesn't have many horses in training these days, Sir Robert Ogden had a bit of success in the NH game but ye won't see his colours over the jumps anymore!

Anyone remember Jimmy McCaughey, colours Yellow, Black Diamond and Sleeves. Had horses with Ryan Price and Stoute around 1980, such as Shaftesbury ( Ebor with Price) and Grundy's brother Centurius (with Stoute). Think he made his money in the construction business and disappeared as quickly as he arrived.Passed away towards the end of the 80's or early 90's if I remember correctly.

Similar colours but think they were Beldale Homes - quite a few Beldale with Michael Jarvis.

Beldale Flutter was owned by A J Kelly and trained by Michael Jarvis - similar colours mind. McCaughey colours are as described below with the addition of a quartered cap. He was trained by Michael Stoute in his Ebor season not Ryan Price.

Just presuming that Kelly must have had a connection with the Beldale business, with a couple of others in the years carrying that name.
Did not realise Shaftesbury had switched to Stoute by the time of hid Ebor win. Do remember Centurius turning out an awful disappointment after starting the 81 season around 33's in the Derby ante-post market. |

(Apologies if he's no longer with us and I missed the news.) Re Centurius: I remember his owner being interviewed on Newsnight for an item about the insane sums people were spending on bloodstock at the time. He was adamant that the money he'd spent on Centurius made perfect business sense, and the fact he's won that 2yo maiden (at Ascot?) meant that the horse was already worth what he'd paid for it, as a stallion prospect. Of course, it hadn't occurred to him at that point that Grundy might turn out to be the stallion his breeding suggested rather than his racecourse record. |
