I don't think CC meant anything bad tbh.

Anyway, I can understand the fact that a diet may have partly to do with it. But surely you can see all the people who smoke 20+ per day, drink like fish, hardly eat anything, yet they live until they are 80. Hear of fit and healthy people having heart attacks etc. I lost my best mate 3 years ago, and he was a builder and fit as a flea. Drank most days but not excessive, ate healthily etc etc. Died at 48 after about a 12 month battle.

My opinion is when your time is up it's up. The thing that fooks me right off though is how all the savilles, glitters, rolfs of this world never seem to be taken early do they. Sorry to go off topic slightly...

I am certain that you did not intend to rob people of hope, OOS? Many cancers can be cured but many cannot, and where cancer can't easily be treated or cured, people turn to sources of comfort. It is not your right OOS, or anyone else's, to take that source of comfort away. In addition, I am sick to my back teeth of reading how certain foodstuffs cause certain things. How on earth did humankind manage to get to this point if, what you say, what we eat on a daily basis is so bad for us. Strewth!

One thing is for sure, when I see people messaging that their next door neighbour or the friend of a friend smokes and lived to 80 I know that you are the kind of guys I need to be betting against, glad you are on here.

One thing this thread shows me and I have come across it time and time again not just on health but even on betting matters, people want to justify what they do rather than examine the possibility that what they are doing is bad for their health or their betting balance. You can check out populations where the big chronic illness's of the western world hardly exist and rather than inventing caveats to justify your own habits you would be better served by asking how you can adopt their lifestyles. Sometimes is easier to conur up the bloke from the off licence who dies at 85 after smoking all his life even if it means ignoring the possibility that he was destined to live to 100

In answer to your question Tippu, because what we eat today bares no resemblance to the food that as you say 'got us here today'. We have changed our diets for the worse, in a very short evolutionary space of time. Even the introduction of grains, 10000 years ago is a short space of time in our evolutionary past. This is why when Scientists on behalf of food manufacturers say that GM foods are safe you know they are making it up, not because it is false but because they simply do not know. A more truthful response would be, we will tell you after you have been eating them for a generation or more.

smirnoff I was wondering when someone would get defensive and try to bin a perfectly civil and sensible debate about cancer to which quite naturally not everyone agrees, by suggesting that children falling victim or perhaps even myself means I should shut up. One of the things that is unhealthy about Cancer is this forced silence, this leave it to the experts, most of whom are bound by the drug company controlled ethics of the medical profession.

Magic I have no idea what caused it in your best mate and I am certainly not talking about Miss Aherne. What I am talking about is the overwhelming scientific evidence that food or the wrong choice of food is the main catalyst for the expression of cancerous cells. We all have cancerous cells in our bodies, everyone typing into this thread, including you has cancer, the difference is that one hopes our immune system continues to keep them in check and encourage them to die off. When that go's wrong they run amok and we have the problem we more commonly refer to as cancer.

Good old Germany.. I layed the Germans for 350 at 1.18 in running 90mins to cover my outright bet, but then lost most of that laying Germany in the penalties. But now in a decent position in the outright market. They should have finished Italy after they went one up, and how they gave the pen away was ridiculous. More than happy at the moment but could really do with France having a hard game tomorrow and going to extra time as well.

I might lay half stake back in the outright market which will give me approx 15/2 on Germany to win it. Still think they are the best side in it, but tonight may have took a fair bit out of them, but a nice break until Thursday so shoudn't really have any excuses.

Olias all I can tell you is 81Pence of every pound raised with CRUK goes to fight Cancer. I can't begin to tell you how hard the staff work across the board with one aim to find a cure. It was CRUK who forced the Government to remove advertising from cigarette packets in an attempt to cut sales. The bottom line is within 15 years 3 out of 4 people will survive Cancer that must be a good thing when 20 years ago it was a death sentance

Hi RU, Cancer survival rates have gone up but cancer incidence rates have also spiralled. We can talk of success when incidence rates plummet to the levels seen in populations where cancer is rare, certainly the common cancers like breast, prostrate, colon etc. My beef is that too much of money raised go's into finding ways to treat the symptoms of cancer and not in how to show people how to avoid it. You see there is no profit to be gained from persuading people to, as an example, eat a whole food plant based diet which would without doubt slash cancer rates. What self respecting cancer charity would invite people along to fund raising and then induce them to eat cancer friendly food products in the way Macmillan do. Kind of like a lung cancer charity saying come along to our coffee and ****' morning to raise money.

Childhood cancer centres around  acute lymphocytic leukemia, retinoblastoma, and Burkitt lymphoma, the main one being Leukemia and incidence is much higher in developed countries than developing ones which suggests environmental influences probably via the parents ie parental diet could play a part even here. The more common cancer like breast, prostrate and colon do not effect children and its not a coincidence that the lowest rates of incidence are in countries that all belong to the category of 'developing' countries. In other words they have yet to adopt our shockingly bad western diet. I know people want to believe that this is all gods random way of testing us and that there is very little we can do to avoid it and so therefore we must try and find a cure that tackles it when it does occur. My feelings are that this is misguided and a shocking waste of money. There is clear evidence that were people follow a whole food diet chronic diseases are slashed. If a plant based diet is not your thing then you would no doubt benefit from meat that is in its natural form ie - grass fed and not pumped with anti biotics
