My bruv believes the same. He has rheumatoid arfritus but won't go on the meds and uses diet, sometimes fasting.

Intermittent fasting a proven method for disease prevention and longevity. Encourage him to continue

macmillan nurses rearly are angels if i ever won the lottery they would be the first to get a gift

Bread consumption and heart disease
when did this happen ? |
By:
Wheat aint what it used to be
By:
i also got rheumatoid arthritis take 5 tablets every monday helps a lot
By:
I have no beef with Macmillan nurses other than they clearly believe most of the propaganda put out by their organisation. They are helpful in mopping up the mess contributed to by macmillan who help keep the real causes of cancer hidden and promote treatments that in a recent survey 80% of oncologists would refuse.

By:
No it isn't not since 1960ish when it was genetically modified.
By:
There is no scientific evidence to suggest a link with bread and heart disease

Unless you are filling it with rubbish

I disagree mad dog, I thought they were cold and uncaring, and the heartless bstards will never get a bean off me. I'd rather die than donate. Support, what support, they never gave a damn about us, we just had to get on with it.
![]() Two weeks after the funeral, knock knock, can you spare us a donation. |

Not true edge, in the 'China Study' which is a huge epedemiological study with accesable data the greatest correlation between any food factor and heart disease was between wheat and HD. It was not just slightly significant but had a whopping p value which means it had a high correlation. You should also read 'wheat belly' and 'Grain brain'

By:
mad dog, don't know if it's the same meds but my bruvs were very toxic and life shortening, and as it is an episodic condition he reasoned he didn't need em all the time. If he feels it coming on he will fast before considering meds again, been off em for about 7 years. Veggie no gluten no dairy.

By:
these studies never identify a single factor properly Olias and if you believed every food related scare in the last 20 years you would eat dust only.
By:
Excellent, good for him Saddo, he has a brain as well as a free will
By:
Edge, that might be true if you are reading these scrares in the daily papers but I restrict my research to more reliable sources such as PubMed.com
By:
Ie a stressful smoker that drinks and never exercises, eats a lot of red meat or eats a varied diet and has no genetic predisposition is no different to someone who has a balanced healthy lifestyle and none of the other risk factors.
By:
your sources are reliable but none of the medical research would back this up, scare mongering of the highest order and dangerous.
By:
He's a clever man Olias. I put him on a train to Dublin yesterday with pushbike and camping gear, don't know how he carries it all. He's having a month racing tour culminating in Galway.
By:
that simply not true, it has been shown that drinkers, smokers etc have far greater risk for disease than those that do not. As for the genetic argument well thats another huge red herring which although may have some relevance in some cases on the whole it is going to pounced on pretty soon by the drug industry to legitamise earlier drug treatment for people with no symptoms but some 'perceived' genetic risk. Heart disease for example has little to do with genetic disposition at least not to the extent that it provides the answer.

You can't live forever no matter what you do in life! What makes me laugh most is when I'm in a traffic jam and you see joggers running on the pavements, lungs working overtime breathing the deepest you will ever breath getting those car fumes deep inside the lungs

'Medical research' that would be the studies funded by drug companies or food lobbyists... highly reliable. You wont get too many large scale studies on brocolli funded by the brocolli maufacturers but I can tell you there was one very good study that pitched the Med diet Vs Statins. They had to call it of half way through for ethical reasons. The Med diet group was anialating the stating group in terms of favourable outcomes.

By:
Olias
That's my point about drinking and smoking, are the drinkers and smokers taken out of the study are those with a genetic risk factor accomodated for. is the rest of the diet taken account of? is exercise accounted for? stress? that would be some study that links bad health with bread in the western diet ![]() As for saying genetics play little part in these diseases , get a grip man! |
By:
I agree Carla but more importantly research shows that the most benefit comes from around 40 minutes of brisk walking
By:
Yes any good research study accounts for factors that you have mentioned. populations such as pre 1960 Japan had little or no heart disease but when groups emigrated to USA they came down with it within a generation unless they held on to their japanese way of life.

But not in a city
![]() |
By:
yes, the car fumes that shouldnt even be there. no excuse not to be using 100% electric cars in the 21st Century - other than the trillions the elite are making out of oil....
By:
I agree, if you want to improve your chances get out of the city
By:
and if you any need proof that our mainstream madia are in bed with the pharma companies, google 'noel edmonds cancer'
By:
I forgot about car fumes! another factor that you would not separate out of a food study.
By:
Yes shocking but not surprising how he was villified for daring to speak publicly about any kind of alternative approach to cancer treatment.
By:
The china study was conducted on various rural chines populations which have distinct diet patterns. Car fumes would not have been an issue

If you took your statement at face value this would be the conclusion;
Little or no heart disease pre 1960 but living longer in 21st century so even though bread gives you heart disease it's far better to eat it as it keeps all the other diseases at bay which killed people pre 1960. Or as i conclude, we see more heart disease in the 21st century than we did pre 1960 because we're living alot longer than we did! hence the heart wears out which I don't blame it as it beats 72 times a minute every minute every day till you die ![]() |
By:
The new thinking of the best exercise is short bursts that raise the heart rate with short recovery periods then repetition a few times.
But as you age this may very well kill you if you are not in decent shape to start with/living a healthy lifestyle in general. |
By:
You know there are tow profile doctors called Dean Orish and Carl ESSELTYN who have shown that they can not only stop heart disease but reverse it with dietary and lifestyle approaches. Ornish is now showing that the same approach is having positive effects on prostrate cancer victims. You wont hear about it though at least not to the same degree that you will be told by the media about the latest drug coming on the market
By:
the china population would not be stuffing their faces with a lot of the junk the western diet involves
By:
Heart disease was checked in older groups and it did not appear which kind of squashes the we are living longer argument. The people of Okinawa or any othe other blue zones who live the longest are not going down with heart disease as a cause of death
By:
diet is essential in a healthy heart
fats, sugars and processed meats have all been shown to affect health in a a number of alarming ways. |
By:
were them people stuffing their faces with processed meats?
