Zand, 1pt win @ 18-1, 4.00 Musselburgh
Today's selection is a tentative one mainly due to ground concerns and whether he's going to need another run or two before coming good, but Zand has shaped better than the bare result on more than one occasion since joining Mark Johnston last year, and no surprise if he comes good at some point off his reduced mark. He was formerly trained in Ireland and then on the continent, and he joined MJ with a rating of 102, having previously been successful at Listed level, however, after some seemingly disappointing displays, he's now down to 83, but he hasn't always had the rub of the green, particularly so in two AW starts last autumn when he didn't get much luck in running. Four starts this year haven't set the world alight, but he shaped OK on his reappearance at Lingfield before just being touched off in a race on the continent; he than ran at Chester and was dropped in from a wide draw but was never able to get into a challenging position after meeting some trouble in running; his latest start at Ascot came after a two month break and he shaped OK up to a point, tracking the pace in what appeared a strongly-run race before fading in the straight as though the run was needed. I'm not sure he wants the ground on the quick side and he appears to have been passed over by Joe Fanning, but interesting to see how he goes with that recent pipe-opener behind him, as his mark has become an appealing one and he has looked worth another try over this sort of distance. |

Good efforts last few days George.
Seamus Durack has an interesting one making a debut today at Wolves, difficult task against the favourite but the yard has hit a bit of form lately after a quiet spell and Versant is beautifully bred. Worth a pop ew for me. Gl today |

Cheers for that mackies and god luck

Unlucky on the place, mackies
|
|
By:
Thanks George. Plenty of encouragement from the run. Some knee action though maybe not on the AW!
|
|
By:
Yep, looks a big old unit too.
x-rated stuff from Zand, could only consider him again back on the AW, and he'll be eligible for much easier races than when last seen on it. |

Line Of Reason, 1pt EW @ 11-1, 1.15 Ascot
Bit of a strange one this, last 3 starts - beaten in a little 4-runner conditions race at Hamilton, then could manage only 7th of 8 in another conditions race on the July course, yet it seemed he was potentially about to post a career-best effort on his latest start in the Group 2 Qatar King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last week until being absolutely mullered against the far rail just as it appeared he was about to launch his challenge. Of course, it could be a strongly-run 5f on quick ground is just what he wants and a similar pace scenario isn't guaranteed here; also he raced on what appeared to be the favoured part of the track and could have been flattered; plus who knows what he would have found given he hasn't always impressed with his head carriage. I'll be honest here, I've never heard of the jockey and I don't know what Paul Midgley's instructions (if any) will be to him in this 'team' event, but at a double-figure price, I'm going to take a chance on Line Of Reason back down in class, in the hope being drawn away from the stands' rail doesn't prove to be an inconvenience and the jockey delivers him with a well-timed challenge! |

Hit the crossbar again George! Well done
|
|
By:
Cheers mackies, ran a nice race under a lovely ride, just unfortunate to run into one too good at the weights.
The Midge must be cursing his luck cuz it did look like he would have run a big race last week had he got through. |
|
By:
I think they might have a crack at the Nunthorpe with him. Probably be a ridiculous price too.
|
|
By:
Good grief, they've started early today, good pick George. I'm throwing a few bob at Free Code 2.00 Hayd, bit of a hound but will pop up one day and this is his grade.
|
|
By:
Worth a crack, mackies, but it appears he doesn't have an entry.
Good luck with FC, saddo. |
|
By:
Monsieur Joe not there either. Im sure he alluded to it in an interview earlier in the year.
Had a pop at Free Code myself saddo, and also stablemate Steelriver at Redcar. |

Feckin useless.

One I thought was interesting later in the 7.10 Ayr is Blue Sonic.
She won this last year (and has won 3 of her 9 starts in C6 company), is back below her last winning mark and this is easier than the races she's been running in recently (5f on quick ground last time at Mussy wouldn't have suited but shaped OK, and had run well 3 back when not getting the best of runs). Possible negatives are the ground drying out and being drawn 3 with the stalls against the stands rail. Not surprisingly there's been money for her and she's in to 11-2. |

Immediate, 1pt win @ 16-1, 3.40 Windsor
Perhaps a bit risky this one, given Immediate is a four-year-old conceding weight to three-year-olds whose limitations have yet to be exposed, but she herself is relatively unexposed given this is only her third start for Robert Cowell since arriving from France. Her debut for Cowell at Chelmsford wasn't much to write home about, though she wasn't disgraced given the run might have been needed and she was caught wide in the straight; the notebook run was her latest start at Ascot, held up on a day when being up on the pace in the sprint races was no bad thing, she was noted travelling well and trying to make headway but failing to get anything like a clear run, before going on nicely at the finish. That looked a relatively weak handicap by Ascot standards and some who have raced since have only run respectably without winning, but Immediate left the impression there could be more to come for her new yard and suggested the step up to 6f (the trip over which she won in France) will be in her favour, while a drop of 5lb for her two UK starts can only help. It should also be noted that the Ascot run was her first start on officially good-to-firm ground and given she's by Oasis Dream, it could be she relishes a sound surface. |

Fray, 1pt EW @ 7-1, 3.00 Ayr
I'm not sure Fray is the most straightforward, but she has given the impression in recent starts that one of these will come her way when the cards fall right; there's not much to say because her form is there for all to see and this isn't one of my left field selections, I just thought at 7-1, she's worth chancing. Star Of Spring, 1pt EW @ 22-1, 3.00 Ayr I'm going to ignore company policy and have a second pick and it happens to be in the same race. Star Of Spring isn't one to be going overboard about given she's a 19-race maiden, but she shaped when second at Hamilton four starts back as though it wasn't going to take Iain Jardine long to work his magic and get a win out of her; that was just her second start for her new yard, but two of the three runs since has been disappointing (she wasn't disgraced in higher grade two starts back); she's clearly a risky proposition, but she's been dropped another couple of pounds, seems to handle juice in the ground, and given the trainer's form (four of his last seven runners have won), I thought she was worth a speculative vote at a price. |

george, without seeming to be pedantic, the opening post would imply 2 selections.my reading of this may be complicated by at least 25 cans of bow.
clarification of this matter would be fully appreciated. |

chav, the intention since the thread returned on August 1, is strictly one selection a day, but if Iain Jardine has a runner in the same race, I'm going to be a taking a look at it and thinking about having a saver!
|
|
By:
as such then, itsmore a 2 horses,2 different trainers every day thread, except when ian jardines not got a runner in the race youve topified against your pick, then
|
|
By:
as such then its a 2 horse,2 different trainers thread, not withstanding the daily selection having an ian jardine runner when the single selection only will apply.
|
|
By:
*if theres an ian jardine runner, single selections will apply alongside the IJ selection compatible and in conjunction with the IJ runner, but only be settled as as a single bet.all op rules should be assimilated in conjunction with this.

why not pick a horse without an ian jardine runner and save yourself the hipocritical situation of selecting another horse in the same race

Cheers GC. Fray has won on soft and SOS has seemingly run well on soft, though not sure either of them would fancy it if it becomes demanding.
I'm more concerned that Jay Kay has come out, as a decent pace would have suited Fray. |
|
By:
I think Fray just needs a ride, hope it's not turning into a bridle ponce.

good luck george, ive forgot what you selected though
