Cheers Stevie, some good points.
Zephyr Breeze, makes you wonder what they were doing running him in a class 2! He did appear to show something that night, but essentially he's been a disappointment since returning from whatever kept him from running again last year. I thought the debut on soft ground was promising, and maybe as you say he'd be worth another chance on that surface off a reduced mark. |

Pusey's Secret, 1pt EW @ 33-1, 6.45 Wetherby
This is speculative as she's up against a couple of potentially useful sprinters and a minor place may be her best hope, but she's still unexposed herself, and I'm not entirely convinced she has to have it soft to be seen to best effect. Pusey's Secret is out of the same connections' useful Pusey Street Lady, who progressed so well with racing and recorded RPRs of 105 on both good to firm and heavy going. The notebook run came on her debut last season at Sandown over 5f on ground officially described as good and the race time suggested there wasn't much give in the ground. I thought she shaped well given she was drawn wide and raced away from the favoured rail, but kept on well down the outer and was going on nicely at the finish. Her only other run as a juvenile was on soft ground at Haydock over 6f, and although she ran to a similar level on the figures, I was a bit disappointed given the promise of her debut, and wondered if the softer ground had been ideal (though it's possible she did too much in front and may have been too weak at that point to have got home in the ground). Pusey's Secret showed soft ground to be no problem whatsoever when bolting up by 6l on her reappearance and Bath; she was then fairly strong in the market ahead of her handicap and Polytrack debut at Lingfield, but was relatively disappointing behind a well backed Gosden-trained winner. Perhaps the mark she's been given is too high, or soft ground is important to her, but the promise shown on her debut on a decent surface at Sandown, suggests to me she's worth at least one chance on a sound surface on turf, so from a potentially helpful draw in 2, she's given a tentative EW vote at a price. |

They've removed the hood on lightning spree - the plot thickens with this horse! Zed Candy Girl a fairly strong ew fancy in the last at Wolves for me. |

Good luck with ZCG, mackies.
I've decided to pass on LS today, not sure my nerves can stand it particularly after watching all the trouble in running at the last Wetherby meeting .I like it when they chop and change the headgear; I wonder about trainers would just keep on putting the same headgear on horses time after time. |

Long Awaited, 2 pts win @ 2-1, 3.45 Wolverhampton
Long Awaited isn't one to go overboard about and he doesn't always find what seems likely, but he looks the most solid proposition in this little claimer. He's best in on the adjusted figures and has Josephine Gordon's 5lb claim too, and unlike his two rivals, he comes here off a recent run, having run respectably in a Redcar handicap last week. Long Awaited has only run on the AW twice, recording RPRs in the 80s both times, and interesting to note that when he ran in a valuable class 2 handicap over C/D last year, he traded at odds-on in-running before weakening in the final furlong. Come is Dave is respected, but is 17lb 'wrong' with LA if Gordon's claim is taken into account; while it's a little surprising to see the relatively unexposed Clumber Street running in a claimer on his return from a lengthy break, and perhaps the market close to the off will be the best guide to what is expected from him today. |

Lee Ho Fooks, you'll note I've been 'brave' (or should that be stupid given we're talking about Long Awaited here) and gone a whole 2 pts win!

Good luck with COD, mackies, not difficult to see Kirby bossing them from the front, even though I'm hoping him and CP hook up in a duel and set it up for mine
![]() CP is the curious one, maybe Mr Fretwell is planning on having his millions on?! An interesting race for a 3 runner claimer round Wolves! |

It is strange placement isn't it. Maybe the horse has problems.

Thecornishbaron, 1pt EW @ 8-1, 6.20 Kempton
This was an obvious eyecatcher on his latest start over 10f at Newmarket, when shaping as though he would have won had he seen daylight sooner; he did take his time to get going that evening and had to be niggled early to pick up the bit, so the query is whether he's going to be as effective back over a mile on Polytrack, but he did finish second over a mile at Chelmsford on his previous start (first two clear), so it could be he's just improving; gone up 3lb for the HQ run, but Josephine Gordon takes off 5lb; he has been easy to back today, it has to be said. |

G/L. Personally liked Snappy Guest in that one. Thought he looked an improved horse for switch to All Weather two starts ago when entitled to need the run. Not disgraced back on turf since and should relish the step back up to one mile and return to the All Weather. Not sure there's that much pace on either (Skidby Mill will go forward but can't see much else -maybe Secret Glance?) so Kirby should have him close to the pace near the inside rail from stall 4.

Good luck with SG, The Value.
Mine had a "chase leaders" comment on his previous start, so I'm hoping JG can get him out, as he was a bit slovenly lto at HQ in the early stages. When I saw Richard Rowe was running 4 today, all which had fallen down the handicap, I thought he was having a bit of a 'Barney'! |
|
By:
I did take a second look at Run With pride, as he caught my eye the last time he ran here, but off a break and up to a mile, I passed.

Unlucky, The Value.
Mine was another crock of sh*t, back to turf and up in trip for him. |

It goes from bad to worse this thread, my regular reader will recall I put Usain up last Friday evening but the meeting at Cork was abandoned just before his race could be run. Didn't bother tonight and sure enough in he goes at 12-1 ISP

Mujaamil, 1 pt win @ 9-2, 3.30 Haydock
Caught the eye on his debut over 7f at Newmarket last October, when shaping a lot better than his finishing position of 9th would suggest; slowly away and not best positioned towards the rear as the race panned out, he tried to make headway inside the final furlong but was denied a clear run. He doesn't hold any fancy entries currently and seems easy enough to back this morning (unlike the Godolphin debutant), so who knows how he has wintered or how much he'll need his reappearance, but he looked a quality sort physically as you'd expect for one so nicely bred, so hopefully he has matured and benefited for having another winter on his back, and can go forward from his promising debut. |

Hang on, suppose I'd better say something about the how the form has worked out. The spotlight says the first two home have won decent handicaps this spring - well the winner Chelsea Lad won at HQ last weekend off 89 (first two clear), while the Bolger horse who was second has won a heavy ground maiden this season.

GL, George, I debated on that one, raced away from the main group if I remember correctly. I'll keep an eye on it today.

I was looking at Briardale, who I've selected the last twice its ran, firstly when just missing the frame at a big price, and last time when I thought he had one of them horrible wide trips round Beverley, but St Hugh has picked it, so that's good enough for me.

Cheers striding, suppose it's one of them you'd rather it was 6-4 than 9-2, in a funny sort of way

12-30 (40%) next time out to open 3yo campaign after once raced (on rowley HQ course) as 2yo
0-10 bigger than 11/4 these are obviously small samples here and unfortunately the market has not really made them value, winners have been very well found. Obvious policy though to give them a nice introduction late as 2yo's then get them ready early at 3. |

Aksum 4.20 Chel is Drifting to a fair price George. Was going to leave it at early odds as doubts about 10f imo. Flattened late at the trip lto but had a torrid run on the turn and tightened up late on.

Thanks for that striding.
Cheers saddo and good luck. I was looking at Grand Proposal in the last at CC, now that Mike Murphy has had it a bit longer and Morris has been booked for its return off a break, given its mark has fallen so much (was placed in a Glorious Goodwood nursery off 20lb higher). There has been a bit of money around for it, but my concern is that 7f has always looked a bit sharp for it (plenty of stamina on the dam's side, and some of his form suggests it - stayed on well over 7.5f at Beverley as a juvenile). Maybe he'll get away with it as he drops in the ratings, but still rather see him up in trip. |

Karam Albaari, 1pt EW @ 14-1, 6.00 Sandown
Karam Albaari is of a little interest returned to the C/D of his sole turf win, with a possible headgear angle; when he won off 1lb lower than his current mark in September 2014, that was only time he has raced at Sandown, and it's interesting to note he was wearing first-time cheekpieces that day, today he gets a first time visor. It's possible 10f is sharp enough for him these days and he got a good pace to run at the day he won here, but hopefully they won't allow SDS to do his own thing out in front on Inniscastle Lad and there will be a pace on to run at. He didn't run too badly on his latest start when 10f round Lingfield wouldn't have suited, and hopefully the visor will enable to travel a bit more sweetly round this stiffer 10f. Charlie Bear, 1pt EW @ 20-1, 8.45 Sandown Charlie Bear has a wide draw to overcome and has to prove his stamina, as well as his effectiveness on turf, but I thought he shaped nicely on his debut for Jamie Osborne over 7f at Lingfield (AW), despite finishing last of the six runners, and interesting to see how this unexposed sort progresses (or regresses) for his new yard. He was formerly trained in Ireland where following his debut on turf, he won 2 of his 3 starts at Dundalk, but was then absent for over 14 months before making his debut for Osborne last month. This sizable sort was allowed to set a steady pace at Lingfield, but his jockey seemed to be caught out when a couple of his opponents stepped up the pace and he lost his position, before racing on the possibly disadvantageous inner in the hime straight, where he wasn't given a hard time but kept on nicely and left the definite impression there was something there to build on. It could be he'll prove best suited to racing on synthetics, but after just one start on turf (on racecourse debut), a bit early to be adamant about that, and this scopey sort looks worth at least once chance to prove his efectiveness on turf. |

I have one in that chelmsford race saddo but it looks too left field
![]() John Ryan's Bazzat, he has had 3 big priced winners early in their hcp careers in last few seasons completely overlooked in market celestine abbey 50/1 BFSP 95.0 plucky dip 25/1 BFSP 49.21 royal caper 33/1 BFSP 120.27 last runner to fit the bill was the cornish baron 33/1 (75.0 BFSP) beaten a neck at chelmsford last month On face of it very little form so far but this sort of distance looks to be much better now than mdn runs after debut (14f was prominent a fair way before looking a likely non stayer imo in a better race). last price on here matched 100, i certainly wouldn't want to be laying at those odds. |

Thanks for the quote, luckyme. The market is certainly currently suggesting it's a "learning curve"; perhaps he'll be allowed to run 5 wide from his draw...
Regarding the jockey booking, Dobbs not one I'd think of as an "in-house" jockey, but 0 - 6 for the yard last 5 seasons. I thought he looked a nice type at Lingfield, and perhaps one to keep an eye on, if not tonight. |
