exactly, if you identify a horse you think should be 100/1 and its trading at 35/1 you dont not lay it just because its not 3 figures
By:
anyway this does have the makings of a good thread, lets try keep it going, theres going to be the odd sniper but thats par for the course
By:
If I were laying 100/1+ shots how would R Moore come into my head?
By:
Carla not happy today, opefully in better mood tomorrow

By:
Surprised he doesnt know who Wafic Said was though
By:
could easily have called himself bosra sham too

So lol mike, not much I don't know about racing!
P.S This is how much you know, you stated A berry earlier, did you know he's +£7 to a £1 stake to the season and he's had only four winners, thats how hard laying big odds is! |
By:
Quoting him like he was easy picking, shameful.
By:
Probably quite a nice bloke, buy today may have done his cash or been on the sauce ......or neither, just upset

By:
but carla, you would avoid laying his biggies during his rare purple patch, then once he reverts to type, its business as usual
By:
Just remember what his blacksmith said about the state of his horses, a few years ago, so now I think theyre all not up to scratch so I LAY THEM
By:
None of the three mike but 98% of wannabe's pro's would for for this ****
By:
PS All his recent winners have been well backed, and Ive missed them.
That's where the experience kicks in. |

Another holy grail founder, are you that bloke from aussie that claims he's Jesus? |
By:
its just common sense ffs, once a trainer hits his annual purple patch you tread carefully, and once he goes back to normal you start laying again
By:
I don't wannabee a pro, I just like winning the odd shekel.
My knowledge acquired at great cost over a long period of time is now paying dividends. I hope yours does the same - sincerely |
By:
You're very aggressive Carla, and remind me a lot of those people in the betting shop who have done their conkers with the resultant bad attitude.
Note I said remind me not that you are one of these unfortunates |
By:
This game is all about figures and when they don't add up...............................................
By:
You think i'm lying.
All this time ? |
By:
Didn't know know challenging means aggressive today lol, will leave you to lay your 6/4 i mean 100/1 shots gl.
By:
You are pissed

Alan Berry is over £800 down over five years to a £1 stake based on 1200 runs (approximate figures). That is pretty poor figures especially as he is having a good run this year.
I lay in the place markets and do suffer sometimes from poor horses ridden as being placed is their equivalent of winning a classic as Rothmanmike has suggested. Duncanidaho warning about forgetting lays (inrunning)is also very pertinent to me. I think I should put a big sign above my computer but think wife might object. |
By:
Brian, thank you for your contribution.
I was merely trying to add my perspective to the debate as others have done. From the outset Carla was anti and negative, I know not why. Constructive comments are welcome whether they be positive or negative but that guy had nothing ae all to say. Pity, as this was a decent thread with some interesting views |
By:
Just a thought, but this all seems to revolve around nurturing a pot and keeping it safe.
At what point do you withdraw and live a little ?! Give me a starting stake that I can afford to lose, and spunk if I win, any day. The overall margins can't be that different. |
By:
Thanks for making this a really good thread. I finished £101 up on the horses. I have laid 0-0 in this Newells Boca Jrs football, could be a £68.20 loss for £10.
Mike am I right in thinking that your large bank, experience and perhaps that the money is not the be all the things that help you win? |
By:
Mike you sound good but seriously you got a ten grand bank and you want to lay 100/1 shots so in effect your backing 1.01, be so much easier if you took your 10K everyday and brought 10K worth of stock and sold it for £10,060, you be done by 09.30am and that's if you started at 9.00am.

I used to go to the tracks a lot and this is what its all about for me.
When Betfair went public they changed the minimum bet on phones to £50 from £20. I lay 100.0 and upward so liability is very high. I have laptop and will be going into dongleland soon - don't agree with paying £40 per month for a mobile phone I don't use much. So when I go at present I need a big bank and I rarely withdraw (once every 3 months). |
By:
i like to lay nags, but one losing Lay wipes out 5 Or 6 good ones surely?

Lady Carla I like going racing a lot.
I used to go dog racing every night - Bristl, Ramsgate, Brough Park, Sheffield, anywhere a short marathon dog was running. Those days are gone. I now like going yo Ayr, Hexha , Hamilton - just for the crack. I get bored doing not a lot. But petrol is expensive so I need another "15K to travel and stay in hotels etc. I enjoy the game and the people. Hope you understand |
By:
And I know what i'm doing.
I don't understand stock though I did work in Finance for 35 years |
By:
Very true 3setpoints, the only way to make laying work is homework, you can't just lay any 100/1 shot and it's the holy grail, trust me you will get caught. Now laying a horse what has all its best form on good to firm and it's been raining cats and dogs for the last hour and going changed to soft, not offical but it has,now thats what you call value.
By:
People that play this game part-time have no chance.
By:
mike how many hours do you spend selecting your lays? do you start the night before or wait till the markets have properly formed next morning?
By:
Who said anything about part-time?? Unlike you I have each runners form in front of me for every race, when the weather changes(it is the uk you know) it's christmas day for me! Homework homework homework = 60 hours a week.

First thing I wait for RP to update prices and then go through each meeting picking possible races.
Usually 2 or 3 each meeting. So even tough they may be the last couple of races no panic cos I know they're coming. Then I do the work, read form, look at Draws etc and draw up shortlist. Then look South African Morning line prices for 100/1 forecasts. Look where Delpeche and Marcus are riding, aslo if De Kock has any runners. All this before 11am |
By:
Look at some ATR replays
By:
then off out for a while to chill, until 1st South African possible , usually 12pm
