If you think the country's acconomy is bad now ,in 78 this country was bankrupt we had to borrow billions from the IMF cause indusrty was not profitable and every one from the milk man to the grave diggers were on strike .What she did hurt some people but if it had not been done imagine our acconomy now . I listened to that hoffible **** livingstone on the news last night slagging her but what i would have like to have said to him is this - She done so bad for this country the only way labour could get back in was to become NEW labour and LOOK at us NOW !!!!! RIP a true great THE IRON LADY .......

I'm sure Brigust it was in her mind and was a big Factor in her going to war and Britain losing many lives, a very selfish individual who had very little compassion for people in a worse position. She always seemed to be looking for conflict whether against the Argies or the Unions, of course she didn't have to pay the price for it. She couldn't lose
the Miners Strike as she was willing to stand her ground no matter what happened or even if it bankrupted the country. |

i like the way Scargill is vilified for having a flat paid for etc, when Thatcher lived a life of luxury herself on retirement (forced) when Scargill was smeared by the intelligence services, and had his name dragged through the mud, a poxy flat seems small recompense.

That won't work Metro. Currently 4 in every 6 people in my area service my needs. My wages and expenditure pays their wages and so the world goes around. The problem is there is no major influx of money and work through manufacture so the wheel turns and things are tight. If the number dropped to 4 in 5 then things would be a lot easier and not so tight but until that time there are too many people living in this country.
CC the British could have invested but they didn't. It was a free market. If I remember correctly the Jaguar was bought by a British consortium who decimated the workforce and then ripped off the government for millions. |

The free market dont exist.It is manipulated in one form or another.(just look at the place we are now posting?) If you let a school bully take money off the weak they will(they must be corrected) No system of politics and organisation is without flaw,there is a ying and yang too life,but the need for control is a must,without it where would we be?

When the emerging countries start paying proper wages to their workforce making British industry possible things will change and future will show this was the only way forward. It just takes time for the world to turn. Some people thought the world was flat.
They were dead as a nationalised industry because of the wages demanded by the unions CC. Wake up ffs. As a private industry they has immense possibilities it just goes to show how the unions completely screwed things up and made them loss making entities. The clues are there if you open your eyes CC. |

Arthur scargill was one of the genuine socialists i have seen,i did not agree with the vote(that never happened) but in hindsight he told the newspapers what maggie and the capitalists had in mind for closure of those pits(they denied it) and he was proven correct - (He was fighting for his job).

Firstly my Dad was a Scot. So up yours. Secondly why don't you look at you own history.The Scottish clans have been fighting for centuries. Even now with a referendum on Indpendence the Scots are torn ffs. I have already put my opinion about the future Hal. We cannot compete in manufacturing against the emerging countries so we either invent something different or work in the service sector until times change. The service sector however can only support a limited number of unemployed or sick. Eventually the wages paid in the emerging countries will reach a level where manufacturing here will be cheaper than the transport costs of exporting and that is where mass jobs will come from and the cycle begins again. |

The Americans had a bigger say on politics of that period than meets the eye,the increased IRA bombings that took place from the 70s onwards may very well have been driven by the yanks? and there anti communist agenda, Blair spent a long time in America came back signed claus 4 away,then visited by Bill clinton who said" i want this conflict finished in ireland" a behold just months later it was over? the CIA and security organisations were very proactive in my view(but i could not prove it?). Is it too much too ask for someone honest/decent/compassionate/generous of spirit/firm but fair wait a minute there was one,didn,t the first great socialist/communist Jesus Christ not die on the cross for these sentiments,are we not "all in this to-gether" as is so often the rallying cry a tad hollow really.Why can,t we elect someone/anyone to lead a government that will embrace the above,Thatcher for me is damned for being a politician and a carreer politician at that tho that counts for about 99.999% it brings far too much baggage with it,regardless of the why,s why not,s of the argument most of the country certainly outside of the south east corner detested her,they can,t all be wrong.
