The sad fact is brigust that demonising the unions was just a ruse for driving down wages and pauperising the working classes. It was successful, we now have a deeply divided country and one of the biggest under-classes in the western world.

The unions negotiated with Wilson, then Callaghan. They picketted the power stations, 3 day weeks, power cuts you should do some research. The unions wanted to ruin the country or run it on communist lines.

Before I went into the car factory everyone outside couldn't believe the money to be earned doing eff all. I worked here for 4 years. No business could survive that and it didn't neither did the mining industry or the print workers or the steel workers or the ship builders. Enough was enough. |

The miners should have gone back to work and many wanted to but wre fearful of being called scabs. What kind of industry or employment is that. Union rules have been chmged since then and their ridiculous powers reduced. Anyone who believes for one single moment the NUM was thinking about the mining communities is crazy. History will show that.
Up yours CC. I worked for British Leyland for 4 years from 1974 to 1978 working on the Princess and the MG. And another stint on the MG about 3 years later including 6 months on the night shift so shut the f u ck up. You should look up Arthur Scargill CC if you want to learn something. i think this says more about the people in horse racing exploiting its staff paying starvation wages and making them work many hours for a living wage. did they get their wages docked if they forgot to doff their caps to the boss man. |

Please shut up about something you know nothing about Brigust. I had close family members involved in the strikes in South Wales, an area that stayed almost steadfastly on strike for the duration. They suffered unbelievable hardship during the strike? Why did they do it? Because an industry that had provided employment for generations from grandfather to father to son across whole communities was about to be taken away with absolutely nothing to replace it. I believe there was research carried out a few years back which found that just 19% of the jobs lost from the coal industry were ever replaced. That's why they stayed out. Now I don't want to hear about your silly little 4 years in the car industry which you feel seemingly gives you an opinion above all others. I know first hand why people went on strike, why they stayed out so long and the long term impact it had on families and communities in mining areas. So please just button it. |

She took on the union's and beat them and if she hadn't, and let them get what they wanted i dread to think what state this country would be in now .
