^That's a credible argument. Where are you coming from. The Labour Party sent 10's of thousands to university to get degrees that are worthless and lifelong debts then flooded the country with immigrants to do the jobs they should have been doing. You won't fix that overnight. Good enough for you?

Personally, I would love a new party to form which had as its main policy of buying British goods to re-generate British Industry and manufacturing. I'm sure that with a charismatic leader they could persuade the electorate to pay 10/15% more for home based produced goods... just think of the great British names that have gone, and with the right investment and management could be re-vitalised !

Halcyon that would be great but really we need to elect good honest people that will tell it as it is and hopefully get the populace on board and working for the good of the country.How is this for starters reduce business overheads e.g. water/wages/fuel etc reduce the weight of taxation on the workers e.g. community tax/rent/leccy/gas/cheap transport to qualify you must be working if we reduce the load you business could take on more workers,for those not employed give them work on creating leasure parks areas of food growth give them hope and respect,no young girl should be allowed to have a kid/kids until she is deemed worthy of it,quite how you could acheive this I,m not sure but we have to have an about turn with radical ideas,if you do not learn from history you are doomed to repeat it,the widening gap will and is visiting misery on a large portion of society,it can be remedied but it will take iron will/resolve on everyones part.

The second thing I'd like is all utilities to be taken back into public ownership ! The thought of the Germans/French/Russians holding us to ransom sends shudders down my spine ! Know that British Rail was subsidised in the early seventies, but travelled all over the country following my team, and have to say what a fantastic service ! |

Halcyon take all the utilities back,this was/is Labours problem they are in bed with the fcukers and not just playing footsie,plough most of the profits back into business.s to reduce the cost and hopefully they could employ more people,reduce the cash burden let people have more money to spend but for me we have to reduce our reliance on material growth the planet cannot take that much more get the unemployed to work on growing food let them create leasure parks that they would work on and develope give them some hope/pride,all able bodies should be employed usefully do not entertain any slacking and get the serious criminals fcuked out onto the islands as it,s all but impossible to escape from.

One of the biggest reasons was because they joined the Euro when we remained so hostile about it, a devalued currency will go a very long way when it comes to the export market. |

Brigust there were militant unions, strikes and works to rule in all european countries the only difference was that in Britain unions were totally destroyed along with employment in manufacturing, totally brainless politics, but we expect nothing else from that self serving shower of shiite.

brigust, you are wrong. German labour costs have always been and remain among the highest in Europe. Reunification with the GDR did absolutely nothing to reduce costs but actually placed a heavy burden on taxpayers/business in the west, which we still pay today.

all those who bought their council houses with a discount of up to 60 per cent of its value and now sitting on properties worth vastly more must be made to pay back the value of the discount they recieved. we have looked at the books and we couldn't afford it. |

Tip anyone can produce figures. Any idea what the natinal average wage is in the UK today? Dp you earn that? Do you know anyone who does? What Britain had was a budding exconomy but it was crucified by the unions. I cannot express too highly how the UK was looked upon as the sick man of Europe. Not because of the Government policies but because of the unions. Germany managed to negotiate deals with their unions because they weren't intent upon running the country. The unions wanted more and more. The print unions, miners unions public sector unions. They blame Thatcher but none of them will tell you where the money was to vome from to pay their wages. They never gave a screw about others only their members and themselves. It couldn't last and it didn't. If it was so right it would be happening today bu it wasn't and it isn't.
The miners had a choice. Back the unions or back the country. The unions had won every argument previously so they backed the unions over the country. They backed a loser. They should live with it. But like some on here backing a loser is someone else's fault, not theirs. |

Brigust, Thatcher and her crew were determined that there would be no mining in UK, come what may.
German unions made deals, why? They had a govt to talk to. Thatchers mob listened to no one. Dictatorial government, would rather pay for Polish coal and keep Polish miners in work than talk sensibly to unions. 200,000 on the dole, and fewer and fewer jobs. High unemployment = cheap labour and we still have it now. Classic fascist tactics. |
