First can I say I am not doing this as thankfully I have a job also the fact that I m not good enough would mean I would starve however a few of us were discussing this the other night and one of the guys said if he did lose his job he would give it ago.
has anyone got any views on this as in my opinion the pressure you would be under to win would be massive.

anyone doing it on here I would be grateful for any feed back as my mate thinks it can be done with patience plus horse racing knowledge.

all views welcome

i took vol redundancy from NHS 3 years ago and have been doin for a job since - just played around before then.

everyone i'm sure has a different strategy - mine is:

1. only to lay horses to lose and not back to win
2. set yourself a daily/weekly and monthly target based on what you need to make to live.
3. if you can have a trial period before you start for "real money" - i practiced for 3mths to see if I could actually make it pay to the levels i needed - gives you chance to find out what works for you and what doesn't
4. discipline - don't ever ever ever chase a daily position - take a loss if it's not happening and move on tomorrow - it's hard to recover mentally if you do your brains in cos you chased.
5. don't listen to tips/advice - only play what you want and don't involve anyone else.
6. don't ever play bigger than your league - when you press the bet/lay button you'll know through the feel in your gut if your playing too big.
7. when you get to your daily target in £ terms call it a day - don't carry on trading.
8. be lucky!

All the best if you go for it - regardless of what some people say on here it is tough to make it pay as a sole income but it can be done if you stick to what you believe (and maybe some of the above).

All the very best.

cheers yorkie its that type of feed back I was looking for so he can read this thread as it gets more replies

so you would stop on wednesday if you reached your weekly target, do you bet a certain percentage of the bank betting at level stakes

You may find that quite a few of the 'pros' on the forum are disappearing these days, due to the clampdown on those claiming JSA and IB :)

unlikely I would have got to the target by wednesday as if i had hit target Mon and Tue (on a mon - sun week) then only early days for me so would have course have to play on - I stop trading if I hit my daily target.

of i make a loss or don't hit daily target mon/tue then i adjust the daily target for the remainder of the week accordingly to average it out.

my advice would be not to bet on any sort of percentages according to your bank - play according to your league (see above) and to the horses price (back or lay) versus your opinion of it's chance in the race (people will refer to this as value - if under priced then valuse for layers, if over priced it's value for backers) - have an opinion (tissue prices on each horse) and stick to it - don't have to play in every race, be selective.

ITCANTBEDONE in the long run. Close your account and do something more useful! If you think I am wrong, come back in a year and tell me so, I'll still be here and I will apologise.

Very few make it on hear and you have to be better than 99% of the sharks on hear. Are you? I don't think so!

This advice is free of charge and you will wish you took it, believe me!

the pressure when doing it to bring in the bacon is immense and the challenge is keeping calm through inevitable bad spells, which is easy to say in theory but anything but in practice

the best advice i could give u is not to feel the need to bet in every race, never chase, there will be other opportunities, the biggest killer is chasing u just lost and digging deeper and deeper. and finally, it goes without question that u will need a decent bank when starting. obv u cant be betting 50 quid a race when u have a bank of just 500 or even 1000 etc... as already mentioned your stake is the single most important factor and must be gauged in relation to the size of your bank to incur multiple losses.

needless to say its very difficult to do.

I imagine it's incredibly stressful, unless you're operating with a huge bank and making massive profits or you're agoraphobic I don't see how the time you'd need to invest and the stress suffered would be worth it, I think I'll stick with my job here.

alot of it is common sense really, i mean u will get the same replies from everyone.

everyone KNOWS what they have to do but the fact is most just love gambling and lack the necessary discipline to implement it. what u could do is try to make say 5 or even 10 quid a day (or x amount per week), doesnt seem too hard but see if u can do it, try that for 3 months and then up your stakes. the biggest problem you will have is discipline. u will most likely make a tenner easily but its sticking to the plan thats the hard part.

all this is under the proviso that u can actually pick winners too, i would suggest trading as the way forward when making money tbh, if u can get  in and out of the market quickily then all the better.

The stopping when you reach a daily target idea is nonsense imo.

Say you fancy 3 horses today,2 of the 3 are small fancies, the main bet runs later. The first horse wins and you achieve your daily target, you don't back the other 2 and one,or both win, precious profit gone.

They may lose would be the argument and daily profit gone, but you either fancy a horse or you don't,reaching a target has nothing to do with it

If you dont have information, you will find it very difficult as BF take 5% of what you win.

yes it is kind of nonsense (thats why i inc x amount per week) but u need to have a target, if u dont u will fail. where does it end?

Restrict Your days wagers to a set amount and do the neteller shuffle. ie have your entire bank at neteller, every day transfer your entire bank to your betfair account, then keep the daily allowance in betfair and transfer the remains of your bank back to neteller, it takes twelve or so for the funds hours to reach your neteller account so they are in cyberspace for that time and obviously unavailiable I have only limited funds but this works for me as my discipline is not what it could be and I love to bet.  the limits are quite generous unless your banking six figures. good luck anyway.

as i said valuebetting everybody has a view, and most of them different.

i have been making a living from this solely for 3 years and a daily target works for me - TRD makes my argument for me - nowt worse than if you lose your days work cos you tried to increase your winnings - the mortgage doesn't get paid that way and Barclays bank manager won't be overly concerned with your excuses - daily money in the bank and keep it.

With regard to reading this thread, one must remember that a prime characteristic of all gambollers is that they are delusional. In other words, some genuinely think and say they are winning when they are not.

I hope this clarifies the matter.

Don't go near any tipsters.
The place market on here can be very rewarding,if you think a horse "will run well" at generous odds.
Also, the place market on here, when there are nr's ie: 7 runners but still 3 places.

And of course a "SHED"  CrazyTongue OutSilly

G/LUCK if you give it a go.  Wink

Quick way to the poor house if anyone thinks they can just go full time on here and make money. If you couldn't make it pay for fun, don't even try it.

Hard work and lots of time invested, It can be done.
