All Weather maiden thread - 2012

KEMPTON - 4.40

Didnt take long to take an interest in one the other races and just think Jellicle has done very little wrong in her four starts as a 2yo and actually run her best two races on last two starts so may have just been a bit of a slow learner.

Chatterati hasnt got half as good form in my opinion. Her best effort which was finishing 4th over course and distance but the form looks very modest and she couldnt get competitive in a nursery off a mark of 70. Switched to MJ he could get her to improve but this hes got a big task ahead of him.

The others in the race with form basically dont have any form and cant really be considered. The only other one obviously worth a mention is marco botti's Barbarella blue but think she would have to be pretty handy to win this on debut. The market as always with these newcomers need a check.

12.50 - I would prefer to be with Vale of Lingfield at the prices. Was not given a hard time last time from a poor draw and could have picked up Sunset in the final furlong had the kitchen sink been thrown. I expect plenty of improvement and 5-2 looks more appealing than the 2-1 about sunset. But i am not having a bet in the race.


1.50 Tappanappa is a pen kick


4.40 - Agree re Jellicle and despite the strong support for Bottis i would expect this one to have too many guns for a red hot Gosden yard

5.10 Hawawi - Shaped with plenty of promise on its last trip to the course. 2-1 looks fair enough. The form of that race is working out extremeley well and he was in with a great chance until the 2f pole. Drops back a furlong today and looks slightly the more likely winner of this contest. Only a small win bet though.

I also think Dark Castle of 74 should follow up in the 6.40. 4-5.

just quickly regards dark castle. he can certainly win but the main reason i liked him so much last time was the race was so poor so it doesnt really make sense following up in handicap off 74 at odds on, for me anyway. There was only one other horse in the race that could beat him and it was the unraced one of cowells that missed the break.

landed a nice gamble last time so more than happy to watch him win at that price.

Pale Orchid actually interests me more at the prices this time around.

KEMPTON - 5.35

cheers andy and i couldnt agree more about Kalokagathia at around 7/2 or 4/1 tomorrow.

Start with the unraced ones Red Trump obviously needs to be watched in the market. i am a bit surprised m.hills isnt booked for the ride and maybe that means hes not one of their  better ones or at least he will need the run. nicely bred by Red Clubs and of coursed owned by the same guy that had red clubs and trained by the same trainer (kind of). Red Clubs had an impressive 12% strike with his first crop of 2yo's and 14% on the all weather so on paper he certain warrants a lot of respect espeically if the money starts coming for him.

The other newcomer here of Michael Wigham's is less interesting on paper being by Jeremy won had just one winner from 26 runners on the all weather from his first crop of 2yos last season. He did have a first time out winner the other day but he rarely sends them out ready to go first time. Money would be interesting but i very much doubt this one will be backed against this field on debut. Someone is trying to back it around 8/1 tonight but im pretty they are just guessing at this stage.

I can't help but think both Remix and Ashdown Lad may have been flattered to finish so close to very long odds on shorts last time out and that has effected their prices a little bit. Discover was sent off 1/7 because the race on paper was poor, he had to make the running and was only workmanlike holding off Ashdown Lad but the third wasnt too far back either who i doubt it much good and was so close probably because of the slow tempo.

With a direct line thru Flamborough Breeze remix actually has the beating of Kalokagthia 2 runs back but that was  flamboro's first run for 3 months and was quite keen in the race. Difficult to know how good the form is from her last run and shes just had enough goes and isnt progressing altho everything that has beaten her has ended up being decent enough.

Mister Mackenzie comes out of a poor maiden last time and wasnt running on at the end to suggest the step up in trip will definitely suit him. John Best yet to have a winner in jan as well from 12 runners quite a few of them have been well below par.

So Kalokagathia might ideally want a mile but was competitive over course and distance last time and was well backed that day as if he had plenty more to come. The winner of gary moores will prove to really decent and like andy says the 4th safari sunseeker has won since, the form is pretty solid. Jo Crowley does very well with horses coming back from mini breaks like this and judged on the support last time i reckon there is loads more to come. I would like to see Sweeney make plenty of use of him because he will get further.

4/1 or 7/2 win looks a good bet to me and also 8/11 or 4/5 in the place market.

Will consider having a saver on Red Trump if there is much money around for him.

Clearly the best horse on the night and the winner should have been thrown out.

Would have won by a couple of lengths i reckon.

Thats 2 winner s.williams has had first time out in the last 2 months so probably need to give them more attention from now on on debut.

Disappointing not to be 4 from 4.

LINGFIELD 3.20

Going to have a speculative punt on Charlie Hills Never Satisfied @ 16/1 on BF. Really well backed on his last 2 starts on the turf last year never really showed a great deal over 7f. Stepped up to 1m2f which should help and gelded as well over the winter. He was clearly showing a lot more as a 2yo than he showed last season and could have found a weakish race here.

I backed Three Bards last time at lingfield but only because i thought the race looked awful and he was lightly raced. He was well backed so im not sure we can definitely say he will come for the race either. The winner an unfaniced john gosden horse came into race travelling like a group horse against platers despite being stuck wide with no cover.

I would have thought the people in the know at Gosdens think Cotton Trader is twice the horse of Ex Oriente, i reckon they are probably right, and easily has the beating of three bards. He is by far the most likely winner and if i had a gun to my head and had to pick the winner of the race i would of course opt for him but luckily racing doesnt work like that or i would have been shot years ago.

I think he has been worried out of it a couple of times and at 14/1 Never Satisfied makes plenty of appeal. Also notice he has been nibbled in the market in the last hour or so.

LINGFIELD - 1.25

Happy to take on Baileys Strider at the current price of 2/1. Obviously open to plenty of improvement but didnt do enough for me on debut to warrent a quote of 2/1 for this contest. i just dont think the form is that good and may only have been backed because so little in the race was fancied. The winner Roedean was starting to look a bit of a rogue.

We can only really rate boots and spurs on his 2nd at here over 7f last month going down a head by hidden justice who was made 10/11 favourite for the race despite showing very little form before hand. it was probably just a very poor race.

Cutting it Fine looked clueless on debut and its impossible to predict how much he could improve. he wasnt overly strong in the market for Noseda horse tho who's runners normally get sent off odds on if there able to put one foot in front of the other so im guessing he isnt all that.

Market support for Noosa Boy would be interesting but im not going to guess on that one at this stage. he was only a very cheap purchase.

Zowaina will need further after handicapped. either that or she just isnt any good.

Yajber ran a nice race first time out and is bred to come on over this extra distance. They went no pace so may have been flattered to get so close to discoverer but the 2nd has held up the form running 3rd in a decent race at kempton earlier this week. Yajber was still looking a little green in the closing stages he may have been a little short of room with a furlong to run. trainer not had a win since november but hasnt got many and most of them arent much good.

15/2 ew looks a sound bet in what may not be the strongest of races.

Noosa Boy now 4/1 and attacting early support. could be worth a small win only saver.

Yajber 1.41 in-running before stopping, probably luck to get the place money they way he finished.

Southern State 1.07 in-running. havent seen the race yet so havent got an excuse yet.

your on right trail. i had a go at the 1st horse. small profit thanks to place bet being lareger than win bet. 2nd horse was very lucky 4 me. backed it at 2.3 and for some reason put in a lay at 1.21. dont know why, paid of though, small profit. good write up. going well as cant win them all. at least your in front. well done so far.
