Yep, may have raced in the same green and white colours as Be My Chief and Faraway Dancer, which reminds me - when Faraway Dancer ran in the Dee Stakes at Chester, there was an article in the RP about the lad who looked who looked after him. He was fighting leukaemia at the time but would be leading up the horse.I remember being around the paddock and hearing Michael Stoute's travelling head lad Jimmy Scott teasing him in jest with a 'you think your famous now' or words similar. Can't remember the name of the lad or if he managed to pull through.

Round about 1978 or 9 he had a good one sounded like Afghanistan. Anyway finished second first time up when I suppose was expected and I had a weeks wages on it. Been trying to remember it's name for the last twenty years. Anybody help? By the way I worship the man. Just seems a very good bloke. Mentioned it before but after a days racing at Donnie a few years back he was in a big beigeie coloured Merc at the top of Town Moor Avenue at the lights opposite me in Doncaster and as I drove past him he smiled in that spontaneous way he does. Will treasure that moment for ever.

I fail to comprehend some people's obsession with this man. As far as I can determine, he is a public school educated aristocrat who has trained racehorses for a living. Unless I have missed something, he is not a great philanthropist nor has he made any noteworthy contribution to the human race other than teaching horses to run fast on behalf of their wealthy owners. Nothing odd about not changing the course of the human race, this is the story for 99.99% of us. For liberator to treasure the moment when Henry Cecil 'smiled' at him at some traffic lights is more than a little peculiar.

Amazing how two Scotsmen can be at different ends of the popularity ladder , namely Henry Cecil v Andy Murray

Scimitara - fav for the Oaks I believe but unfortunately broke down. Cecil loved the horse and when it walked back to its box he didnt need to hold its reins as the horse was so relaxed and trusting. Hopefully she recovered to live out her days in the fields.
I remember Diminuendo. I was undecided on whether to back her or Dabaweya (sorry about the spelling) in either Oaks. For a young lad at the time, I had alot of money going onto Dabaweya. Needless to say, Diminuendo was awesome and I lost |

I remember working in a bookies in the late 80s and a bloke came in raving about one of Henrys horses that hadnt ran yet saying it was the best 2yo he"d ever had? we were all young and naive back then and got 1000/1 off my boss for it to win the 2000 guineas and the derby the following year? The horse in question was called GIANTS CASTLE and i dont even think it ran as a 2yo i think it made its debut in the wood ditton but dont quote me? Needless to say it didnt even run in the guineas or derby and i do believe it ended up over hurdles?
