Much too young to back Shergar Zilzal, thankfully, but every kid wants to see the greats win. I'm not sure I spoke for a fortnight afterwards. as the same after Dawn Run's fall in the Grande Course in 1986, although that was more catastrophic.

johnjo and the trainer ran him for money and paid the ultimate price such a shame did the same thing with istabraq greedy owners

tessla was another cecil 2yo who won a few races but didint really achieve much at 3

I remember shergars Derby win and reading that such greats as Sir Ivor and Nijinsky had paid great tote place dividends, in those days in shops you could back place only on the tote(5% tax) and it didnt go into the pool
I had £100 Tote place on him He paid 10p(dividends declared to that amount then) and i did a fiver after backing a historic Derby winner ![]() |
By:
zilzal, what happened to if you cant win then you cant lose, surely you should have got your money back
By:
I did, but the Tax was a fiver, that doesnt count for betting purposes on that rule
By:
did you back zilzal on his debut?
By:
No, i wayched it in the shop i was managing though and that turn of foot wowed me, i went to the Sussex and the QE11 to see him in the flesh though

good thread, for a change, praising someone rather than running them down. Am I on the right forum?
Great trainer Sir Henry and a credit to the sport. I don`t think Wolver Hollow has been mentioned. Top class performer and his first Group 1 winner. |

By:
he wasnt too shabby in the jersey stakes either

By:
He was very short at 10-11 for the Jersey though, he'd only won a maiden and went straight to RA, the 1st time i backed him is when he drifted from 7-4 -11-4 in the Sussex

Royal Anthem was another cracking horse looked a world beater in the Juddmonte with Gary Stevens aboard
By:
Both Royal Anthem and Killer Instinct raced for The Thoroughbred Corporation (Ahmed Salman). Believe both he and his brother Fahd dies suddenly and within a year or two of each other.

When you see a great thread like this one it reminds you why the many tossers on the forum don't post on them , simply because they are out of their depth.
Fantastic thread filled with great nostalgia by true lovers of the game ![]() |
By:
Too right Hayden, there should be more of these and far less tipster threads
By:
