didnt samoan finish 2nd to another cecil colt in the royal lodge, sanquirico maybe
By:
It seems that HRAC was a bit of a specialist with precosious two year old colts,as well as the Fillies and Mares.

By:
1987
sanquirico unbeaten in 5 i think 1988 high estate unbeaten in h 1989 be my chief unbeaten n 6 1990 peter davies unbeaten in 3 or 4 all unbeaten as juveniles. this is all off the top of my head so wait for me to be corrected lol |

Saw Russian Bond win its debut @ Yarmouth.
Won pulling a double decker bus with Cauthen motionless. Looked a real superstar |

By:
Looks like my Ante Post portfolio for those years Derbys and Guineas, all in tatters,

By:
oh and musicale unbeaten in 5 in 1991.chimes of freedom lost once in 1989 i think to dead certain in the cheveley park.bound to be a few more precocious ones. faustus was another in 1985 ,think he won 5 from 6 ,6.sure blade his only conquerer

Grand Pavois - King George V handicap at Royal Ascot - heavily backed - trotted up
Faraway Dancer - second to dancing brave in craven then fifth in derby I think Queen's soldier Yachtsman |
By:
only heard of faraway dancer out of that 4 carlton. are they pre 1985ish
By:
Yeah Samoan was 2nd in High Estate's Royal Lodge. Also ran a few weeks later in the Scenic/Prince Of Dance dead-heat Dewhurst but finished out the back door.
Did win a noddy race somewhere as a 3yo, Newcastle maybe. |
By:
You can probably add Armiger to that list, think he was unbeaten in 5 or so as 2yo. Although he turned out half decent at 3 aswell.
By:
Which Henry Cecil classic winner won the race despite none of the runners entering the stalls(think im right in saying this)
By:
Hmmm, was Michelozzo's Leger at Ayr a flag start or something ?
By:
Sleepytime is my favourite filly of Henry's. And the grey horse, the Skimmer, she was beautiful. I quite like this Midday though, she's not finished yet.
By:
Thought it was Bolkonski, there was a dispute in 1975 with the stable lads and stall handlers, and if my memory was correct they formed a line and went

By:
Pat Eddery rode Russian Bond to win its debut at Yarmouth(cauthen was off injured)Pat said it was the best 2 y old he`d ever ridden. W Ryan won on him in the Mill Reef at Newbury , not sure what happened to him after that.

Fidway - they were about that time.
Don't forget Simply Great, exceptionally good in the morning but never really reproduced it in the afternoon - same for Brigata and Killer Instinct. Nobody could believe it was the same Brigata that turned up at the races,I think she was tailed off twice and they then drew stumps. She was quite exceptional on work mornings - plenty of the lads were skint afterwards |

Zalazl
2nd in the old William Hill Futurity as a 2yo behind Al Hareb 3rd in the Dante as a 3yo then won the Great Voltigeur the same year |
By:
Its Ebor week so lets not forget Kneller hosing up in '88 (I was there when he sliced through the field like the proverbial knife through butter under P Eddery) and Tuning a decade or so later under Fallon. I had my first fiver on one of his un-raced maidens at Yarmouth called Be My Valentine. Won under Piggot at odds on and my overriding memory as a fifteen year old in 1982 was completely **** myself at the thought of loosing a whole weeks paper round and pocket money! Happy days??

never learn club.
Im convinced it was Cauthen who rode Russina Bond on its debut. It was 1 of those races you watch that stick in the mind & can still picture it now(yep it is definetly Cauthen)moving up on the outside with Russian Bond pulling his arms out. Cumani also had a hoss in the race began with S but cant recall full name that despite getting a complete mullering from Russian Bond won next time up. @ that time Henry had them fully revved up & knew their job inside out showing very little signs of inexperience on debut. Compared to today where a few still win on debut, but still have plenty to learn/improvement in the tank to come. Not sure wheter either of these have been called but 2 spring to mind(cumanis) Critique 1m4 group horse with attitude, Hello Gorgeous & Gayane |

red oute looked like being a st leger winner but think he flopped
By:
Desert Sun, another morning glory. Winter 2000gns fav, HRAC ended up running him over all sorts of distances to try and get a performance resembling his gallops form.
By:
mill on the floss a shocking omission.
By:
Desert Sun may have been a flop but he is a hero down under.
Isn't he the sire of th super Australian mare? |
By:
Three of my favourites from 1982 apart form Ardross were three very good two year old, Diesis, Dunbeath & Precocious.
Glory days. |

we will be talking about midday in 10 years

frankel might just turn out the best of the lot

Better than Slip Anchor and Oh So Sharp Fidway? My god that is some prediction, I can't see it myself but hope you are right I must say.
By:
the man himself says hes the best 2yo.with a bit of improvement over the winter then who knows.,reference point was his best so far imo
By:
Going to be hard to compare with the likes of Oh So Sharp , depends what you mean by the definition of best horse and you'll probably only have the performances up to 10f to compare whereas Oh So Sharp effectively won the " triple crown"
![]() |
By:
Oh So Sharp was a truly magnificent racehorse, one of the very best fillies of all time definitely.
By:
agreed.remember my dad putting £50 on her in the king george, that pesky petoski
By:
Zilzal.
They did start the 75 Guineas by flag due to stable lads protests @ the start. |
By:
Frankie on morning line .Being a proffessional he went for Dream Ahead.
Forgot the basics of asking his dad how good Wollow was |
