sandown 105mm in last week currently heavy waterlogged
they can keep there 2/1 TT |
By:
would be a lovely race for minding this with 15lb allowance
By:
Looking at the long range forecasts I can't see it being worse than good come off time, and maybe even a bit quicker.
By:
With the Esher course already waterlogged and more rain expected every day between now and race day just lay TT and Deauville with impunity as I firmly believe the former might not turn up (again) and the latter (possibly scratched) nearer the race. Instead, back Fascinating Rock heavily with a 'saver' on Minding in case AOB decides to venture Minding against the colts earlier rather than on 'ARC' day.
By:
No offence impossible but you talk some right nonsense. There has been no indication from Weld at any stage whether or not fascinating rock is even running. I can understand having a small bet/saver, as I have done the same, but to bet on him like he is certain to run is just bonkers.
By:
No worries, guess I've done my doh then....The Eclipse is the only race entered for him according to the 'Sportinglife Future Entries' section - he's also been backed lately with all the major bookies. Let's hope connections run him here given the expected soft ground after the recent heavy rain.
By:
Wish I'd heeded my own and taken 12/1 on Mydreamboat.
If Fascinating Rock runs then he is the horse to beat - I don't think Weld ever intended to run here but the weather, and the associated weakness of the field, may force his hand. O'Brien may also throw Found in the mix again, though if USAR does make a miraculous recovery he may be the main Ballydoyle hope. |
By:
Punters have a heard mentallity. Once they think something might happen they'll all jump aboard no matter what. Fascinating Rock may run, but the last Weld said was he'll be coming back for an Autumn campaign.

all ok with time test?bit of a drift on here...
By:
Hoping New Bay turns up.
By:
kavvie,
The drift is because of the ground - the firmer the better for Time Test, and on friday it was waterlogged. |
By:
fair enough..ive a good wedge at 4s hopeing for a good week..i thought time test went on good/softish but pref was for better?
By:
us army ranger for me if he turns up
By:
If USAR runs it will be hot favourite. Been shortened by most firns though Laddies much the biggest on him and they are also much the shortest on Found?

i said it before i think the gurkha is the best middle distance colt this year . i think usar ducked the curragh , i dont believe in him ( happy to say it if im wrong ) coolmore dont have much speed in their shed , a point that was brought to my attention . theres a chance he wont run , but on the basis hes entered in the king george (1m4f)on the 23rd and the sussex (1m) on the 27th if they wanna see which way to go with him then the eclipse(1m2f) on the 2nd of july would give them that understanding regarding whether they can make him a miler or bow to the pedigree and turn him into a 1m4f horse . i just pinched 2 quid at 16.0 that now makes him a 6-1 shot !

According to AOB The Gurkha (TG) is Sussex Stakes bound.
I think TG is seeking to wrest the miler crown from Galileo Gold owing to an injudicious ride by Moore in the St James's Palace Stakes at Ascot. TG was also earmarked for the French Derby (10f) until the demise of Air Force Blue in the English Guineas which prompted a reroute to the French Guineas instead. |
By:
Just seen forecast for the week and there is still plenty of rain about. Cannot see Time Test getting his ground. I think My Dream Boat looks sure to turn up and he is already proven over course and distance.
By:
Has Dermot Weld said anything about Fascinating Rock yet?
By:
Blimey - The Gurkah at 4 and USAR 18. Looks like the rain has scuppered the chances of the Derby runner up at Sandown and persuaded AOB to swerve Goodwood with TG.

By:
AO'B:
“Listen, I suppose the ground is going to depend but he’s definitely a possible.” TG |
By:
"The Gurkha didn't do anything last week but he'll do a little bit at the start of this week and we will make a decision then. We'll see how he gets on in that but there's definitely a chance he could show up at Sandown."
By:
My Dreamboat is just the fly in the ointment - anything that beats Found on a good day is worthy of respect
By:
ffs,
I cannot remember precisely where now (but I could look for the article's). However, in today's RP by David Jennings there is more on The Gurkha's (TG) possible next outing following the deluge at Sandown - Deauville was earmarked but the soft ground is against him. And given the time between The Eclipse and the Sussex Stakes ie 3.5 weeks, there is every possibility TG could run in the latter as well should he run here. |
By:
I wonder if they might be inclined to bite the bullet with Time Test and run in spite of the of the ground?
A couple of reasons: 1. Given the way the Prince Of Wales turned out there might be an element of regret that he did n't take his chance. 2. Where else is he going to go prior to York in August? They could go King George but he does n't look like he's crying out for 12f and there's no guarantee of fast ground there at this stage. They could go Sussex Stakes but the 3yos and the likes of Belardo could make that quite a deep race. He has a course win at Sandown as a 2yo on GS - I think the ground compromised his chances in the Juddmonte last year and his two best performances for me have been on a fast surface but not sure the evidence is conclusive (too few races). |
By:
ffs,
Type in 'Sky sports/sword fighter/st leger news' for an article about AOB's reflection on the performances of his Ascot runners, and below is what AOB said about The Gurkha. AOB: "We'd like to take on Galileo Gold again with The Gurkha. He'll stick to a mile and the Sussex Stakes is the race we are looking at." |
By:
11 declared including a pacemaker for Time Test so hopefully he will run and give me a chance of breaking even - have already lost my bets on Wings of Desitre, Grey Gatsby and Found.
USAR not declared so looks like The Gurkha will definitley run for Coolmore, and go off hot favourite. |
By:
No Fascinating Rock either. The Gurkha is 13/8 'fav', is he as good as his price suggest? He's rated below several of his opponents.
By:
If no Time Test, then Exosphere e.w. for me...think this'll cut up to 6/7 runners
By:
The Gurkha (TG) is rated 129 whereas Time Test (TT) and My Dream Boat (MDB) are both on 131; MDB excels in softish going unlike TT who prefers good/firm ground; TG can go on any ground however, softish ground could minimise/dent his ability to quicken off it, and his ability to stay 10f on softish ground has to be taken on trust too.
By:
I think My Dreamboat is a little suspect, given his rapid rise, he could definitely be peaked / over the top.
With The Gurkha, definite improvement likely, and the way he was finishing the SJP he looks cut for 10f |
By:
And that's why Fascinating Rock was a saver, there was never any indication he would run.
By:
The Gurkha's price is rancid. There are afterthoughts in racing, and then there is this. They never at any stage considered this for him.
By:
i did mention that the race fell well in terms of timing . it was just an observation but seems to be a good one hes now 2.62 !
By:
mdb and time test are 4yos impossibe123 and they werent the top of the tree last year .forget the ratings ,this horse is better than them
By:
nice to see the interesting chatter . i think the goose has flown but always like to read sensible thoughts . its only 32 quid but feel i got the drop this time
By:
gpz,
I'd be confident if it was good ground even against Time Test as The Gurkha had proven he could quicken off it, but on soft ground and only an afterthought to run here, I'd not be sure hence My Dream Boat for me - only a small bet mind you. I also believe The Gurkha would not be given a hard race either given his Sussex Stakes engagement - his original intention - in 3.5 weeks' time against Galileo Gold. I hope if My Dream Boat does not win The Gurkha wins for you. |
By:
whats up with fascinating rock............ground would be perfect for him.........thought he would be a shoo in against these
By:
The Sandown ground this weekend is near ideal for Fascinating Rock. However, I think he's being aimed for the 'Arc' with a prep race eg Irish Champions Stakes, prior I believe.
