Smad Place has benefited from getting his own way out front and settling into a rhythm. I can't see him dictating this race in the same way against higher class opponents and they'll want to make use of Silviniaco Conti's jumping by riding him prominently I would have thought.

On a side note, When I see prices for Don Cossack and Vautour shake my head in disbelief, again false prices 9/4 and 3/1 - In my book the clear favourite should be CUE CARD

Totally rejuvenated as a result of his epiglottis surgery... to help his breathing... those who talk about course form... are not factoring in that this horse is a totally different proposition this time.

As for Silviniaco Conti he shouldn't be far hehind Cue Card - and although stable not doing as well as expected I do feel that this horse will stop the rot for them and will be a big turning point for their season.

I think it is key to note the performance of those that tried to mix it with him throughout the race....... all in their turn had their hearts broken. One by one they came to have a crack and he repeatedly turned them away. If he gets into the same rhythm again at Kempton I'm not sure i would want to be on the ones that try and get him at it . All about opinion though. Good Luck

I agree dyno, he really put them to the sword one by one... and although I don't think he will win the Chelt Gold Cup - I do think this is the more sensible option for the connections.

If taylor puts one up for this race it will be Smad Place, He would have loved the way he ran that race. Win or lose he is one to get a position on now as he will only get shorter

Iris - Cue Card absolutely sluiced up in a Ryanair after looking shocking in the KG the previous December. He didn't look to be suffering from breathing difficulties that day despite looking breathless on Boxing day. I think to call him a 'new horse' at this stage in his career is hopeful.  I think he will be a major player in the Ryanair when he steps back in trip after saturday

I see your point - but I think his last run showed a considerable amount of improvement from his first - that is something I feel was always an issue with Cue Card, and that should be driving the price for the fav... form.

Vautour didn't run great last time out... Don Cossack Im not too sure about him and what to expect - bit hyped in my book as does let you down on the big days.

When considering bullish opinions it can be hard to separate those betting to win from those betting to lay at times Wink.

IRB Cue Card's rejuvenated form is based on beating old past it horses specifically Sil Conti. So how much of it is down to Conti being slower or not on his A game in that Betfair Chase? There is no way Cue Card is going to improve on his best form which is low 170's.

As for Smad Place, are we going to see him improve into the 170's a place where he's never managed to get close to before? The fact Alan King is talking of the Ryanair is he knows Smad isn't a top class horse over 3m+ in the best company. He's more a Triolo D'Alene, Many Clouds kind of winner of the Hennessy than a Denman or Bobs Worth.

We don't know where Vautour and to a lesser degree Don Cossack's max level is. I think bar Vautour the 3 or 4 best staying chasers are elsewhere. Don Poli, Djakadam, Road to Riches and injured Coneygree.

Vautour 3 miles right handed on soft / very soft ground ?

If there is a ryanair horse in the race then it is him or possibly Don Cossack.

I would rather back horses like Don and Vatour on what they are going to do than back Cue Card and Conti on what they have done in the past,I don't think either horses best form will be good enough.
I have had a bit of the 14/1 on Vatour winning both so I hope he runs.

Vautour 3 miles right handed on soft / very soft ground ?

Well yes, he's a stayer and his Sire Robin Des Champs is only known for siring stayers. Tour Des Champs just won the Welsh National Trial and Sir Des Champs ran a 175 in soft ground to be 2nd in a Gold Cup. This isn't a Champagne Fever will he stay question. Vautour stormed home ears pricked after making all in the JLT. 3 miles around Kempton isn't a worry. The final furlong in a Gold Cup is. But any sane backer of Vautour in the Gold Cup has their lay matched in running to remove any worry about him not seeing it out.

When: 21 Dec 15 14:13
Djakadam beat Valseur Lido 12l and Vautour beat him 15l so I believe Vautours JLT run was a 171+ and he's only 6yo and breeding suggests stepping up will improve him just as he showed huge improvement going from 2m up to 2m5f
By:
CVByrne
When: 21 Dec 15 14:15
4m46.3s was Vautours time in JLT vs Uxizandres 5m1.2s in the Ryanair. Both made all the running. It was a staggering performance
By:
CVByrne
When: 21 Dec 15 14:28
^there is 1/2 furlong difference between the two races. But still avg pace of 13.9s a furlong vs 15.35s per furlong.

Interesting ... I wonder how he combo of very soft ground and three miles will actually suit him .. He shows a lot of raw speed there on good ground

He's more a Triolo D'Alene

i question this, i think he is on another level to the handicapper triolo dalene and is a proper grade 1 horse with new tactics employed
By:
CVByrne
When: 21 Dec 15 14:49
I didn't mean he's a Triolo D. I mean he's more akin to that winner of Hennessy. Many Clouds is the same. Not Grade 1 class and not up to winning the top Grade 1 races.

I've backed Smad Place for the Ryanair. When he's beaten here he'll head for that race instead. Horses who are beaten in King George have great record in Ryanair.

I agree with Harry, campaigned differently Many Clouds would be a real contender for G1 races.
BTW, the RP has the difference between the Ryanair & JLT as being slightly more than a full furlong that day and Uxi jumped an extra fence. Based on this, their actual respective average furlongs were 14.3 Vautour and 14.33 Uxi. Both were fast times, Uxi's the course record. Nonetheless, not sure what price he would be for a KG, 'staggering performance' on the clock or not......

The highest rated 3m chaser will end up in the Ryanair??
Interesting opinion!!

Does seem to be getting some pretty unfair criticism does Don Cossack.

Personally not gonna say too much about this lot of 3m chasers we have right now, prefer to let them do the talking.
And I an certainly not gonna crab any of them.

As for the King Geprge,I'm gonna have a small wager on my old mate Alf....just in case.
Then I'm gonna sit back and watch the main fancies.
See if Cue Card can produce his best form
See if Don Cossack deserves his highest rated status
See if Conti can produce his best form at Kempton....again
See if Vautour can jump well enough right handed and stay well enough to win the race.

Fascinating race and for me no need to wager too much.

straight after the race ? and depending on the circumstances /i.e  a good win   and no hard luck stories  I would say no bigger than  2s

Really?

He will have to be bloody impressive to be 2/1.

Personally I would not be at all interested in this bet. He has to win 2 races at distances he has never ran at,and beat a lot of darn good horses.....twice.

Wish you luck though Foyles....if you can find the bet!!

Back him to win the KG at 3/1.

Bank the money and then wait till Gold Cup day and back him then.
I expect their will be offers, plus the Lexus winner and Djakadam will be fancied I imagine.

At leat that way you don't have to sweat for  a couple of months or so.

if vautour  did win the king George well then cant see books going bigger than 2s and probably be a fair bit shorter as he will have taken care of the main opposition in don Cossack who connections my turn to the Ryanair, cue card probably also go that route ,silvino wait for Aintree ,no coneygree , djackadam same owner would also prob go elsewhere ,dangers thin on the ground !all hypothetical of course
By:

I backed him for king George on here straight after the jlt only peanuts available at 10 and 8.4 ,have held fire till now but will back him at 3s and the 14s the double ,have also  had a saver on conti at 7s before the betfair !

Djakadam will run in the Gold Cup,whatever Vautour does, be amazed if he did not run. He's tailor made for the race.
The owner wants to win the race be better to have 2 cracks at it.
Don Poli or RTR win the Lexus impressively,he's not as short as 2 in my view.
By:
FOYLESWAR
When: 21 Dec 15 19:05
yeah if djackadam /rtr or don poli were impressive in lexus it would certainly make things more  interesting ,but wullins and ruby have made no secret of how high they rate vautour ..............lot of imponderables
By:

When: 21 Dec 15 19:31
Don Poli,Don Cossack,Djakadam,Road to Riches are the most certain runners in the Gold Cup at this stage, that's runners that in my opinion can win the race.
Cue card and Vautour could be added depending on their KG performances.

Yes things can change of course, but those 4 look proper Gold Cup horses to me.

good to hear mate,go with your thoughts.
Yeh lots of ifs and buts and Maybes for sure.

I just hope all the KG horses all the Lexus horses, and any others all turn up on Gold Cup day.

Don Cossack 12/1 (PPower, B365) for KG & GC but as short as 8/1 at Coral.
Vautour 14/1(PPower, Betfair) but also as short as 9/1 at Coral.
Cuecard 28/1 (PPower) but only 14/1 at Coral.

If you go on Oddschecker King George Market and there's a tab at the top for the double.  Corals are taking the mickey.

Got to say not too excited by the doubles and feel sure if you're disciplined enough to bank your KG winnings and reinvesting later you'll do better.

Well from most comments on here...

I think you are either in the Old school camp

Silviniaco Conti 8/1
Cue Card 4/1
Al Ferof 16/1

or in the New school camp

Vatour 3/1
Don Cossack 9/4
Smad Place 9/1

Likely hood winner will be coming from one of these pots.

If runners stand as they are this will be one of the most intriguing King Georges in a long time, as their are question marks on all these horses.

When: 21 Dec 15 21:48
I'll be amazed if Smad is good enough.  Do you not think The top 4 in the betting would have won the Hennessy (if they stay) easily off 155.  I think folk are getting carried away with him.
By:
IrisDeBalme
When: 21 Dec 15 22:59
That's easy - Top 4 win the Hennessey - No - cant just go by the rating as every top weight (or top 3 horse) would win the race.

Smad Place performance was phenomenal.
