And I tried to get 12/1 w PP but it was gone quickly - AO'B said he might not run again this year because "with horses that you expect to improve it's best to leave them alone and he seems to have learned plenty this year" ...
Note: Expected to improve ... |
By:
Still think he's overpriced now. Will have a bit more on tomorrow, Suppose if he was to run again the Racing Post Trophy would be the race I would aim at now.

I much prefer OLM over JFK for the Derby. OLM looks like a very nice horse for next year.

That did not look good from JFK. Hope they now realise which one is their main Derby hope

Just seen the replay, before the race i couldn,t believe how bad his head carriage was considering Epsom was his target, this horse was fav for the Derby?!!.
With a head carriage like that he would have Propped and done a Wollow and fell down the hill.I must look into this further. |
By:
I think with JFK the vibes have been bad "mentally immature" etc.. All that family have been nervous, difficult types - if you remember Tapestry was fav for the 1000 last yr before running last. I wouldn't give up completely on him, the ground is a factor also, but I never liked him as the no1
Can't wait to see OMR, that horse has always looked a machine, a real professional. The way he won his two races, and even has a touch of Finsceal Beo about him physically - the only question is will he fully stay, but being a Montjeu you'd have to say he will, especially the way he ran strong through the 1mile as a 2yo. |
By:
Btw, this is what AO'B had to say about OMR on Mar 25th,
“He’s very good and is doing everything right so far. He’s always been a very mature horse that shows plenty of pace in his work and while we haven’t made any decisions yet, he could go the Guineas route. He’s a bit like Camelot in that he’s much pacier than the vast majority of the Montjeu’s we’ve had" The only thing now is it seems he'll go for one of the 1m2f Derby trials instead, judging by the Guineas market at least. |
By:
Ofc, Camelot didn't just go 8f at 3yo, he could have won the Leger ! Open and Shut as far as I'm concerned. That's some comparison to make.
By:
Wouldn't mind OMR going for the Dante. For me it's the best track in the UK with a lovely surface and also the fairest track. Think it would suit him well. Dot up in that become the 2/1 fav for the Derby and then see him demolish the field in what already looks like a substandard year.

i got omr in derby to return four bags, I want more on

Moron?
![]() What price you looking for? |
By:
Has there been anything said about OLM after his 2000G outing where he was tailed off. Surprised to see him still a shortish price given what just happened, i,e 20s area and not 100s
By:
yeah aidan was interviewed on c4 and said listen there's nothing wrong with the horse, he may have lacked a bit of experience or maybe the occasion got to him so joseph looked after him, but there's no physical problem
he added that power and roderic o'connor also badly flopped in the english guineas, but then went to win the irish guineas next time out (i don't think he was suggesting old man river for the irish guineas, he was just making the point that a bad run in the 2000 guineas is not the end of the world and he can get them to bounce back) |
By:
Nice to see Tombelaine frank the form from last year with a gutsy win today
By:
What a great race the Dante looks. So interesting with JFK and OMR in the field as well as the improvers.
By:
I would imagine that with Joseph twice making the effort to do 9 stone to ride OMR that better is expected of him than was seen at Newmarket.
By:
Hope so but it does look like they think more of JFK at this stage.
By:
IF Elm Park is as good as the trainer says he is then he should be beating these, imo.
By:
tough ask for elm park first time up against 3 horses who have all had a prep run, he will be a proper derby horse if he wins imo i just wonder how wound up he will be or whether they will just want him to come home well with epsom in mind...good looking trail on paper
By:
Sorry late in but my ante-post 2 were Eternal and the Queen's present from HRH S MDartmouth and would of hit it off of he had done a Jack Hobbs’s. JFK is May foal, that is what puts me off him but he’ll go on improving but I have just gone in with OMR, his draw in 2000 meant they did not push it. I think JFK is RM’s ride and OMR is JOB’s, and perhaps this is his last derby ride because of weight problems.

PLenty of horses win the Dante first time out, Harry, and, EP was due to run in the Guineas nearly two weeks ago by the time we get to Thursday, so he'll be straight enough.
By:
don't disagree sint like you say he was ready for the guineas...hope he does the business as have had a few pounds on the horse for the derby, as thought he was over priced, just wish he had an easier introduction back, with a bit more cut in the ground and just think this is a tough assignment as it has ended up very competitive...if he wins he will be a solid derby favorite but personally i hope they use it as a trail and the horse doesn't have a hard race, which may just happen against these horses...he needed a run as a 2 year old so we will see, i won't be betting him here
By:
I backed Elm Park on Monday for the Dante in the hope the rain came but now the forecast says it's won't get as far north as York so will have to try to get out of it.
I don't really fancy him for the Derby as I think he will struggle with the track. |
By:
Sherlock Holmes still in Derby, and Irish, worth a few quid for us guessers I should hope.

By:
Disappointed Elm Park withdrawn from the Guineas but backed him at 14/1 for the Dante/Derby double
Good luck! |
By:
well looked a good renewal of the dante and all concerned must be pleased...looked a decent pace to run at and the winner got a perfect trip and settled beautifully...shame for jack hobbs as he was caught 3 wide and it just wasn't ideal, he also tended to hang when asked but really it was his first real examination and maybe he would just like a tad more cut in the ground, he lost nothing in defeat imo and still looks a decent colt...
golden horn looks a real top notcher to me and appears to be improving quickly and just looks classy, the owner seems keen to keep at 1m 2f and it will be interesting to see whether he goes for the race but the calendar for 1m 2f horses is rich pickings for such a horse, however the lure of the derby maybe to much, the owner isn't rash so steady as you go, he got a perfect trip today and was way out of the speed that was ensuing on the front end, he picked up the tiring horses late on to look impressive elm park chased the speed throughout and ran a really good trail before tiring late on, if he could just get a tad more juice in the ground i don't see him out the frame with his prominent racing style likely to give him a nice trip at epsom... the jockey stated after the race he was much bigger this year than last, he ran very fresh/keen with the rider and was the only one that hadn't had a prep run, plus everything else that raced prominently finished out with the washing, this would of taught him plenty and he wasn't knocked about when beaten...he needed a race last year so this was promising, his main problem is the 2 horses that beat him, beat him well so he will have to come on plenty to turn the tables, there is a chance of this and the other 2 are clearly decent grade colts... i see no reason why he shouldn't run his race whether that is good enough if the other 2 colts turn up i don't know, it was a good trail for him plus he wasn't punished when beaten...is he good enough? only balding knows how much he left to work on but i think i may go in again as just had a minor bet so far, the ground will be key, so i'll be waiting till the week of the race |

I didnt see the Feilden until after the Dante,a bit peeved as in the Feilden Golden Horn had to challenge wide seeing too much daylight on the outside, then cut in to win.
Only good horses win like that.A common excuse put forward by many a trainer in an after race interview is that their horse"saw too much daylight on the outside". i would think that a fast run Derby is more preferable for a hold up horse like him, than a French Derby where they will probably go slow early and then sprint, with all the traffic problems that will ensue.comments anyone? |
By:
Also.I cant believe that JFK was a serious contender for the Derby,so small with an almost high stepping action and high head carriage.Surely he would have never acted at Epsom with those traits?,another Wollow?.
By:
Well he quickened, did it late and tough enough, hard too see why they would not run in Derby? the fresh 3yrld form is starting too emerge, others still to debut(Sherlock Holmes) but on what we have seen in what looked a poor year based on 2yrld ratings, Golden Horn thus far looks the part, rating the race is not easy, The AOB pair ran very much like on their reappearances, their 2yrld form did not work out, we should ignore them, the 4th and 5th beaten a long way(good pace), how much did Elm park need the run?, the second possibly better on a quicker surface? The distances between them suggest a good race that in time should work out.

All very wise after the event, pipedreamer.
On Breeding I would suggest 10f will be Golden Horn's best trip. Good run from Elm Park. |
By:
Yes but as i said i didnt see the Feilden,Sint.I'd prob comment a bit more pr-race if i got ANY replies to my comments!!!!,only seem to come after with ridiculous stuff about Aftertiming.
All postmortems about races leads to"aftertiming, surely it shouldnt ban us from commenting?. Anyway Success Days in the Derby?,itll have fun on the camber at Epsom when it puts its hoof down and finds that the ground isnt where he thought it was (camber},he''ll end up in the Crowd!!. |
By:
dermot weld will win his first epsom derby this year..
By:
^^^ if he stays the trip ^^^ Was impressed by Golden Horn in the Dante, he looks very classy, settles, travels & quickens. Not certain to fully get the Derby trip (Epsom) on breeding, but the way he does things will help, hope they decided to take his chance, granted gd/fast ground he looks the one to beat.
By:
On the looks of things AOB does not have a single Derby runner this year, so I hope he does not just chuck in 4 or 5 hopefuls for the sake of it.
By:
Didn't think Highland Reel ran that bad in the French Guineas after a very long lay off. Don't know if he's Derby bound now but very disappointed in OMR as I thought he looked really good last year.
By:
I have to say that I am pleased we have some different trainers with the leading fancies rather than the O Brien domination.
By:
Racing Post reporting that Golden Horn is going to be supplimented. No real surprise there to be honest, though I'd hoped they wouldn't (for the sake of my 66/1 about Jack Hobbs mainly.).
Should be a good race, even with AOBs horses all falling away |
