Have to agree with the views on the removal of the monthly prizes.
 I think it'll damage the attractiveness of the comp to the ordinary punter. |

The (lack of) monthly/meeting prizes is a big downer. Most of these are won by lists that are an odd mix. Like some of you I always consider a list or two for that purpose.
Haven't yet decided on a strategy or how many entries I can/should afford.  |

The enticement of halving the entry fee to double your amount of lists sounded superb when you do this on your own but naaah,no monthly prizes is a terrible decision.
what's the point? 10 prizes on offer for a whole season? it's 8 to follow anyway with Sprinter Sacre and Big Bucks.i'll still have a go but massive sigh |

I'm seeing myself sending 20 lists in for £100.
I'd have sent 30 in for £300 this year season if it were the old rules. |

It's appalling that the new rules and list aren't available online yet. There should have been a web link as soon as the book was released. Late entries are another kick in the teeth. Let's say that Sprinter Sacre or Big Bucks are ruled out for a few months, rather than most people being a horse down in 80/90% of their lists now you are effectively forced to spend more money on several fresh lists.

Has anyone yet managed to establish when 'late entries' start scoring? Is it from 1st December or from an earlier date related to receipt of entry?

Does anybody get the impression they are not too bothered with it this year? No publicity in the Racing Post, the website not updated yet with the list of horses. There are only two weeks to the start of the competition!

Just picked up a form from a Betfred shop and am not impressed by the bonus system, which quite frankly doesn't make much sense.
I would prefer the profit on a tote win bet rounded down to the nearest whole and capped at the points value of the race up to a maximum of 20. Per above rules the bonus horse shall have its bonus points doubled (so a maximum of 40). No place bonuses. The rest of my suggestions: Reduce the deduction (25%) but make more money by actually promoting the competition and having the website up and running as soon as the book is released. Have 5 'monthly' competions. Early season (start until end of Cheltenham December weekend), Xmas (until 1st Jan), Trials (until Cheltenham), Cheltenham, Spring (until end of Aintree meeting) 10k to winner, 2k-2nd, 1.25k-3rd, 1k-4th, 750-5th, 500-6th thru 10th, 250-11th thru 20th Make the prize pool a guaranteed half million so that after the monthly prizes there is 400k left. 50% goes to winner (guranteed 200k) and pay down to 100th place. No late entries. 2 subs but they can only count to Cheltenham and Spring prizes, not overall. Points scoring: 4 x 60 point races CH, QM, GC, GN 50 point races: The other 4 festival bonus races plus PP, Hen, Tingle Creek (others may disagree with this one) and KG 40 points for any races worth >80k 30 points for 50-80k 25 points for 30-50k 20 points for 20-30k 15 points for 10-20k 10 poibts for |

less than 10 k aaargh!!! Just realised that a certain symbol ends the post.
Points for 2nd and 3rd: 4, 2 in a 10 point race up to 24, 12 in a 60 point race List of 400 horses and accompanying book to be released in September. Ammended list containing additional 50 horses to be released asap after PP decs. Deceased horses with black line through them, likely out for season = red line. No late entries |

I think the competition needs to be quite simple, fair and able to retain our interest for the full five months. Too many ways to score points and it becomes a blur or a lottery.
I also think the RP and the betting industry is still too busy squeezing the last buck out of the flat rubbish and has little time for national hunt. Like many I am concerned at where this competition is heading. I was excited by it before the rules came out, but now I feel a bit indifferent. This might be my swansong. |

The only thing I don't like much in the new rules is the 'star horse' nonsense where your nominated horse gets double bonus points.

Hi, are Betfred shops the only place to enter at the moment , Nothing on the old TTF Tote page and no postal form in post like normal !!!!! Is a list of runners available anywhere apart from the book ......Thanks

You'll need to pick up a form from a Betfred shop. The two main horses that are absent from the list are Hinterland and Nadiya De La Vega.

From Facebook 'Ten to Follow'
Following customer feedback we decided that all entry money for the season long competition would count towards a main prize fund not monthly’s, the aim being to create a huge jackpot. We are planning to launch mini versions of the Jumps Ten to follow that will cater for the winter months and key festivals.Substitutions were replaced with a star horse. Substitutions it was felt only appeal to serious horse racing fans and by having no substitutions it is a level playing field. Pretty damning. The RP long ago gave up on serious racing fans. So they want this competition to fester through the winter while they revamp stable stars and expect those with no hope to dip into their wallets again and again. Substitutions were replaced with a star horse. I just don't get the logic of that. What they haven't addressed is the devastating effect of injuries, rather than just picking duffers. I really don't think I should bother to enter. I'll just save my money and go racing. The RP and C4 just want to dumb everything down. They'll fall in love with the all-weather rubbish next. I'm just going to go to the points each weekend until Cheltenham and forget about it all. (Mr Angry) |

4.11.12 - Update for the new Betfred TTF rules: As previously announced, after 11 years of sharing our free Racing Post/Tote Ten To Follow system online, it was sadly time for us to pull the stumps on our usual extensive coverage of the TTF competition. The Tote has new owners in Betfred who are now running the TTF competition. Entry coupons for the TTF are now available from any Betfred betting shop. Betfred have made a few changes to the competition rules but these will, in the main, play right into the hands of anybody following our system rules. We particularly like the dropping of the cost per line from £10 to £5 and the scrapping of substitutions. We think the granting of Tote win and place odds, as points, to every runner when they win or are placed is very interesting. And we don't mind the ditching of the monthly prizes either as they almost always proved too difficult for followers to win whenever the opportunities were there. We are still waiting to hear if Betfred have lost the support of the Racing Post. Without the Post's generous twice-a-week coverage, the new competition could kick off only to immediately sink into relative oblivion for the next five months, similar to what unfortunately happens to the William Hill TTF each season. |

ive missed some of the stable tours in the racing post and am about to compile some lists , thought of joining the racing post members club but they informed me that they do not appear as previously displayed in racing post but that you have to search by horse for comments :-( any idea where else these articles could be found ? i ll keep cuttings from today but have missed quite a few :-(
dont really like the changes , preferred to pay a tenner and have 10,000 monthlys to aim at :-( came 4th way back in 97 and also shared the cheltenham prize that year , got in paper few times since but nothing really close |

It is a bit of a mess with regards to the late entry rules, as some have inquired on here, when do the late entries start scoring from, it can't be from any time you enter in between times because in effect, everyone would need their own personal leaderboard, it really should be from day one or dec. 1st thereafter.

I'm being lazy but surely on the Betfred coupon why can't we just enter the four digit number instead of having to write the horses name , takes ages for a multiple entry!!!

Duffy scoring does seem to be from the time that the late entry is made. As you say it seems a bit of a mess!

Right, those mourning the lack of monthly prizes, it looks like there will be some "mini-games" - first runs 15 Dec-26 Jan. But, no word on what these will cost to enter etc. Have asked them, will post response here.

Are they having a laugh ffs, and there's me thinking i could wait until the end of nov. and stick in the winner of the greatwood, PP and betfair chase, becher and god knows what else and get all those points given to me then, fook me we know you won't get awarded races already run. Anyway, getting points from the minute you register means the list of scoring horses posted on the site/paper won't apply to everybody and i'll bet a pound to a penny that as entries come in, in dribs and drabs, there will be problems with people complaining that they aren't getting awarded points for horses that they chose because the entry wasn't received in time.."i stuck it in yesterday, and it ran today", "sorry, we didn't update the entries until the day after"  |

Apart from the changes in format (some good, some bad), the real frustration lies in the difficulty they seem to be attaching to running what should, in essence, be a very simple competition. Obviously the scale of the competition (number of entries) makes it time-consuming to run, but the actual scoring should be very easy. It shouldn't need much more than a master spreadsheet in Excel ffs!
But... the worry is that if they are digging so many holes at this point, it won't just be a case of them not updating entries every day, but I can imagine the updating of the leaderboard will be a farce. Might seem to be getting well ahead of myself here, but there could be a lot of people in the hunt in the latter stages and they might well not know it. Can you imagine not knowing where you lie before you have a runner in one of the last races of the competition? You wouldn't know whether to lay it on here for some insurance or not! Could be carnage. Also, what are these 2-pound mini games about? Do they apply to your original entries? Wouldn't it benefit everyone (players and admin) to just make it a tenner and give us the usual monthly prizes? There'll be less money in the mini games for sure if you can choose to play them when you want, as a lot of entries will have no chance at the beginning of a period like that and people will thus not throw 2 quid away. Some really poor decision-making here! |

hi tom...actually think your right should of been kept to a tenner...all they are doing is lowering the outright payout..as i remember as haven't played for a couple of years it used to pay at least 500k to the winner??
