I would still not be certain about Camelot running at this stage (still in 5day decs)
And even if he were to run on Sunday, he has a gd bit to find on the book
Coming into the start of this flat season i had little doubts that Camelot would be the best 3yo over here & landed gd bets on him in the 1st 2 classics, but he is the best of an average lot & looked below his best in the Leger, plus he took an age to pick up & got turned over in what looked an average race.
So unless he improves a great deal from that Leger run, he wont be winning any Arc imo.
I just cant have him & have layed him for a few ££.

I understood bazz and totally agree that Orfevre will be PMU favourite.

However your post suggested that it was best to back now as the price will shorten into odds on and that could possibly make it a very good trading opportunity. Whilst it may prove to be an opportunity I was simply correcting how good it will prove to be

I agree about camelot's running plans but it is surely more likely with the unforunate recent defections?

Could have done without the ante-post monkey having a wipe down there.

I think that the scared bookies will reduce his odds following
the cascade of money coming from JAPANESE punters, so my advice does make sense,
to those who fancy ORFEVRE.

Was right about Mikhail Glinka and Yellow And Green on page 17. Bayrir is still in the Prix Dollar against Cirrus Des Aigles, but there is a chance he will be supplemented for the Arc.

Having been quite against Sea Moon earlier on the thread, with the defections the 16s you can actually get in a couple of place does seem to offer a bit of value now.

I agree Roo.  He's the value atm.

This is now just sickening! Sad

Why can't the bums & deadbeats get these niggling problems?
Snow Fairy, Danedreamn & now Nathaniel...it's not gonna take much winning any more Sad

8/1 e/w for Champion may be a bet if just a simple temperature

Maybe some trainers will be having further thoughts? A few more supps than anticipated?

If Camelot is well, surely they'll run him now.

Absolutely gutted at this field being ransacked like this...who's next? Cry

These three big withdrawals have been a huge boot in the balls to me, as ALL were 'friends' and I've been stung with hot potatoes in laying others.

A week ago, I had big reds next to Masterstroke & Yellow & Green (£1400+) which didn't concern me at all, as I didn't fancy either, and they were always gonna be easy to trade out of - both drifted, just as I suspected/predicted they would, so I found an easy 'escape hatch' - the big reds NOW are against Camelot (it was him I was expecting to be withdrawn, and I thought the price was bananas) St Nicholas Abbey & Sea Moon which have now become a thorn, and could be harder to wriggle out of with only a couple of days to go.

Maybe I shouldn't be so bold as to say I don't fancy any particular horses now, as there are just 18 left (including some rags) they're dropping like flies and soft ground is forecast - a serious downpour and ANYTHING can happen!

These scratchings are really bad for the stress levels - is anyone else suffering too? Scared

Is now the time for Abdullah to cough up the supplementary fee for Frankel? DevilGrin

Roo - that's probably the answer to the question about 'consecutive days' entry stages' from a couple of days ago...maybe it's deemed as some form of insurance when unforeseen high-profile withdrawals occur.

They say things come in threes, so Camelot will probably be next to bite the dust Plain

Dont say that Navel, coz it would turn into a nightmare for me if Frankel turned up.
Layed him for a gd few £££ at 9/2 Shocked

Soft ground would suit for sure and weight for age/sex
If the horse is entered that is....

Certainly wouldn't be the worst bet though I think she was being prepared for Ascot so surely she'd be a gallop or two short?

if your looking for a long shot try top trip at 1000-1

EG - I've had him onside for 'insurance purposes' in the unlikely event of bottomless ground...I backed him last May when he beat Masterstroke at a decent price so he owes me nothing.

That's exactly the kind of supplementary surprise I mentioned before.

The worst AP mayhem I've seen in over 35 years punting. I had SF,DD and N as winners so am left with a 1 horse book now getting 7/4 about Orfevre which no doubt will be bigger on the day. The only positive for me, and it is glass half full, the main dangers have gone. Orfevre has the best form and the has had a great preparation but for now I'll leave AP alone and back again on the day.
By:
Navel-Gazer

Sandown - you sound in a similar position to me though I do have several other strings to my bow.

I too have had nearly 35 years punting and even though it seems a regular occurrence (unexpected withdrawals) in the preceding week to a big race, NEVER have I seen anything like this!

THREE solid claimants to the Arc and the money's gone west Cry

According to cornelius L, Camelot's participation depends on a gallop tomorrow. If he is anything less than supersonic then, surely, they wont run him??

Yes, I have laid him on the place market...the day after the derby...sweating!

I bloody well hope so - he's been prepared for the 1m7f race on Saturday so is defineitly going to be 100% fit and I'd have him at about 14/1 if he turned up, and the softer the better. If these defections don't make them change target they must be mad.
By:
Navel-Gazer
When: 02 Oct 12 16:50
Camelot's withdrawal will do me a favour and save me a few hundred quid in having to back him again, but if he defects it'll reduce the race even more!

I've got to be careful with what I set as lays now, as it's several times bitten, once shy!
It has to be remembered that in effect, the market will 'balance' like there's a R4, if that gallop doesn't go too well, so lays should be set accordingly.

Just thought I'd warn a few of you (for those who aren't too good at the maths) to prevent more bee-stings like I've endured...these really have been incredibly unfortunate & unforeseen events (especially for connections of the big three withdrawn) and FFS, have I've paid for them! Cry

PS - it's really pissed me off to see renewed money for the likes of Imperial Monarch & Great Heavens, and to have missed the chance to claw back some of the defecit from horses on my side that I didn't think had much chance of running - you never know with this game Sad

I suspect there are some seriously scalding potatoes out there, and that some of us are needing oven gloves! Silly
