^ Yes, I think that is the key swardean. I join a long list of others who have either lost cash or wasted a Ten To Follow slot last year with this horse and was amazed at how much better he settled today. That must have made a massive difference to how he saw the race out.
Times are hard in the Deane household this year, so I just entered one lonely TTF line to have an interest. I went with Divers as my PP horse and was a pretty happy boy as they came down the hill. Shame he didn't cling on to second for 12 bonus points. Given that he was wrong at the weights with those that finished in front of him, he ran a good race and should (hopefully) pick up a good prize given suitable conditions. Regarding the Great Endeavour estimates as to how many lists he appears in, I would say that it would definitely be in the thousands (unfortunately for a lot of us). I'd have thought around 2500-3000 would be the number. As Rob says, he was in a load more last year and came into the race with similar(ish) chances this time. Plus, although a lot of people will have sided with Wishfull Thinking and Mon Parrain, a lot wanted to take them on due to WT's weight and MP's inexperience. Am worried a lot of people will therefore have GE. Moreover, I'm very worried that he goes to the Hennessy with a massive chance on the back of that. I put Wayward Prince in as my Hennessy horse but can rarely remember looking at a Hennessy field as bare as this one - there are way fewer good second-season chasers than normal and GE gets in off a beautiful weight. I also think he will stay IF he settles again - let's not forget One Man won a Hennessy off a low weight as he got into a rhythm and settled nicely and very few people would have said he'd stay a genuine 3m2f race at Newbury. I suggest all those TTF players without GE in their lists have a few quid on him for the Hennessy to guard against total meltdown! |

gl to the people who have stuck with him and wd.
If he does do the double and you have'nt got him whether you have 1 list or 50 the competetion will seem over after a fortnight. |
|
By:
Its a good start for GE, but for me he will not win the Hennessy(even allowing for the fact that it is totally winnable this year as TD suggested). If he doesn't win the HGC then the **** or the old Mildmay of Flete are potential targets - could he win either of those off a probable 12lb higher mark? That brings in the Ryanair, surely not good enough? So not sure where the extra points are for GE - we'll see, but not giving up yet

Probably good advice and that's what I did with Exotic Dancer. Anyhow, off the mark with Big Zeb. ![]() |

Lovingthehigherlaw has died on the gallops.
He will have been on some lists and is very sad for connections. |
|
By:
I wonder whether Noble Prince might have been better served by forcing the pace today to utilise his race fitness and stamina and expose any first time out weaknesses Big Zeb might have had. Sat behind Big Zeb and didn't have the speed to pick him off over the last. Maybe thought race fitness would give him the edge. Such a lot of these Irish races are run at a crawl and turn into sprints.

So, what do we have next weekend?
Obviously, the Betfair Chase and the reappearance of Long Run. Ascot, and the Amlin Chase maybe, and perhaps Captain Chris trying to enhance his reputation? Anything else of note? Long Distance Hurdle? |
|
By:
Lots of good horses out next w/e
Granduet et al in the 4yo hurdle at Haydock. The valuable brush hurdle race and the Betfair chase. The Amlin chase and the Ascot Hurdle (Oscar whiskey) Irish racing, The Morgainna (Hurricane Fly) and 2 graded novice chases |
|
By:
Oh yes, forgot Morgiana - excellent weekend in prospect.
Omitted Oscar Whiskey comnpletely - might be a bad decision. |
|
By:
I liked Oscar Whisky based on The Ascot hurdle, condits should suit and 25pt race, and The Welsh Champ Hurdle which is his for the taking again.
A poss Cleeve hurdle horse and an outside chance for the WH Would be disappointed if he got no points, but mainly went in my Nov lines (which are all scuppered now!) |
|
By:
You've convinced me I made a bad decision!
|
|
By:
if mon parrain gets dropped a few pounds nicholls may aswell run morrain in the hennessy
|

David Johnson stated today that the HGC is the plan all being well with GE.
Pipe still considering running grand grus in the betfair. Perhaps the most informative race for a long time to set the 'initial' pecking order across generations. Grand Crus, Diamond Harry, KAuto, Weird Al, Long Run, hope they all show!!! |
|
By:
Had GE in 2 of my 16 lines, so an OK Start. Gutted for Divers though, due to his colour change from last year I didn't realise he was up there at first! Love his exaggerated holdup tactics.
One of my lines looking semi-promising for the November prize I hope (not the one I had aimed at the November of course!) , with only Sizing Europe unlikely to run... Big Buck's - Long Distance Hurdle Hurricane Fly - Morgiana Hurdle Binocular - Fighting Fifth Hurdle Sizing Europe - unlikely to run in Nov Grands Crus - Won Nov Chase, poss Betfair Chase Great Endeavour - Won PPGC, poss Hennessey Long Run - Betfair Chase Master Minded - Amlin Chase Michel le Bon - Hennessey Oscar Whisky - Ascot Hurdle |

does anyone know if salden licht is out for the season?
he dosent appear in kings stable tour and i stuck him in my only entry off of an old list from the t0te so may have missed any update on his well being in the racing posts lists |
|
By:
Sherlock.
Salden Licht is a general 16-20/1 bet for the Arkle, and is in the betting on here so I guess he's ok. |
|
By:
Out for season according to stable tour in post today im afraid.

yeah bit of a gutter but my own fault for not checking the rp lists...on the plus side ive got great endeavour in it
|
|
By:
Thankfully whilst we didn't entirely escape Pandorama, we were very light on him due to his obvious fragility.
|
|
By:
With the Hurricane set to miss a couple of good scoring
races,my entries are quickly turning into a 'wish I had'nt of bothered'scenario. GL others. |
|
By:
Early days. Hurricane Fly will affect majority of entrants, so not a big deal. Though, beneficiaries may be those selecting horses like Thousand Stars (we like him) and Oscars Well (we didn't like him).

i have 27 points in my best list which is about joint 5100, therfore cannot be more than 5100 with GE in their lists, anyone got more than that but less than 57 in a list as will give a better indication of how many lists have GE
|
|
By:
In my line with Great Endeavour, 57 points, I am 1683. So there are that many lines with GE and some other scoring horse ahead of me. So can probably estimate at least the same again with GE and no other scoring horse, so perhaps 3200 is the best estimate for lines with paddy power winner
|

Child? Peddler's exertions in the Champ cost you a few quid i say, unlucky lad
JOCI - i am amazed you omitted Oscar Whisky especially the amount of lists you do and the sense you talk |
|
By:
DRVEB - I am but human.
![]() It will probably end up being a bad decision, but I think you need strong views to make money in a comp of this format. |
|
By:
Swardean
There can't be any lists below you with GE so however many are tied on 1683 is max that can have it. Or did you mean you have points as well as GE's 57? |
|
By:
Sorry RockMonkey that is what I meant suspect that there are as many lines with GE and another scoring horse (1682) and as many with just GE. So another tied 1600 tied on 1682 making about 3200 with GE in their lines.
|
|
By:
Cheers for clarifying-makes it more grim for those without any GE representation

Didn't see any need to put Thousand Stars in with HF mopping up the Irish hurdles, so a bit concerned now. Need a Hen GC win or I think it's looking grim.

Hey REM you're not wrong there! I did 20 lines this year, only did Thousand Stars in 1 line, but dont have him in any of my Great Endeavour lines. I have 3 lines with GE. So I really need the Hennessy winner with one of those My Hennessy horses with GE are; AiteenThirtythree, Wymott, Wayward lad and maybe Joncol (doubt he will run with the ground on the fast side, he will stay home for the John Durken)
What do you need/fancy? |
|
By:
Wayward Prince, 1833, Michael Le Bon, Wymott & Joncol are my five hopes. GE would be a knockout blow.
15 points so far and I'm languishing at joint 22,502th - which might suggest a low number of entries? |
|
By:
Pandorama out for the season was a shock, he would have been a very plausible winner of the Lexus and Irish Hennessy in proper Irish ground. My Tote 10 to Follow took a kicking for it!... 7 lines suffered out of 20. My Irish Hennessy hopes now lay with Joncol or Quito or the Dark Horse Kauto Stone (one of my bankers!).
I love the tote ten to follow! |
|
By:
Like your list!!
How many years gave you been entering Tote Ten to Follow? |
|
By:
Im thinking 40-50k entries this year... hopefully!! But it could easily be less.

There can't be that many entries with less points than me, so I'd say 30k as a ball park.
I first entered TTF in 95 and have only one shared monthly prize to show for it, although I did make the top 100 last year. But it gives me hope and insight for each new season. Pandorama is a big disappointment and that's why I stick to horses that are well and I know what their racing plans are. But things always go wrong. Anyhow, one or two zeros can be overcome with subs if you have enough high scorers, so all is not lost. Good luck. |

big weekend for me....if wymott or beshabar don't go in and binocular gets turned over i'll be waiting for next season....just dithering over whether i can be bothered to drag myself the 10 miles to the nearest hills shop for their comp.
