You know, the more I play this competition the more I think they should drop the 25 points for bonus races as it would encourage a wider range of selections and considerations.

i agree...in fact i'd go further, i would like to have no list of horses at all and people were free to select any 10 horses running under national hun rules....that would be far more exciting....trying to find the novices that will run up sequences round the likes of fakenham.....or the folk tunes of this world mopping up in sellers...perhaps it's too much work involved or not as glamorous as it would take away from the bigger meetings. |
|
By:
the entries at the top don't seem unbalanced to me.
Still got 2/3 big guns yet to race .If you have'nt GE & C (118pts), other selections need 4/5 race wins to even get near 'em. |
|
By:
the fact that in a comp that lasts a whole season long to be so heavily dependent on a select few races is badly flawed in my view....perhaps that's sour grapes mind you

There used to be a list of 1000 to choose from if I remember correctly...but you had to wait ages to get points updated! I seem to remember Pacemaker magazine did a competition before TTF or the Racing Post ever existed where you had to pick your own from scratch but prize money was nowhere near comparable.
In last few years everyone else seemed to have had the Paddy Power and Hennessy winners...bit more spice to it this year with them appearing much less popular choices (and for once I have lines with them both in ) |

Rod,I remember that, the first scores I saw i think Generuos
topped the bill. |

Mourad! Horse needs a proper test and they run at a crawl.
There was me looking for another Limstone Lad/Solarena and i seem to have passed over Voler La Vedette. |
|
By:
That's where the luck comes in. A fit Hurricane Fly or Thousand Stars would hose up in that race, yet they do a no-show, and the race becomes sub-standard, and is picked up by a lesser horse. Hard to legislate for that when picking your lists.

Yep, the way the cookie crumbles. And for me it's mainly crumbling.

I agree with your assertion that the comp is slightly flawed due to it generally hinging on just a few races. I've always thought one solution would be to expand the number of bonus races quite considerably (thus meaning nobody could hope to plunder too many of them). Alternatively, you could keep them as they are but simply award 25 points for picking the winner and withhold the extra 25 points for it being worth a certain amount of money to the winner. Always seems a bit unfair that you can pick the winner of a valuable race that takes more planning than say the Paddy Power, but only score half as many points for doing so. |
|
By:
To encourage all horses to be more evenly used ALL races should only be worth 10 points + the tote dividend points for the winner , would make the big handicaps more interesting etc etc.
|
|
By:
still cant believe the tingle is not a bonus race...
considering irish henn/gold cup....irish ch.hurdle / ch. hurdle the tingle for the champion 2 milers should defo be included |
|
By:
Sizing europe did not deserve 50pts for beating a ryanair type and a bunch of 150 handicappers.
He'll face must stronger opposition in the tied cottage for 20pts. |

How is everybody doing after the weekend. My best list is 188 but the leader more than likely will be 258 .

don't ask,had a lot of big players stuffed.
No chance of winning tbh. GL |
|
By:
Will be quite surprised if the leader is close to 258. Not many on the leaderboard will have increased (just one with Quantativeeasing and the odd Oscar Whisky entry ?)that much

Shocking year for me! Lost interest.
|
|
By:
^ I feel your pain - never known a year like it.
Not only have the two horses I spent an age considering (but left out) gone on to win big races, but all my others are hitting the bar right, left and centre. I can't ever remember having so many horses run in valuable races with chances as I'd aimed for, but likewise have not had such a poor wins to runs record in donkey's years. Nightmare! |

Guess there's always a monthly or Festiavl Prize still up for grabs.
|
|
By:
top line on 156, so joint 141st at the mo, not much else to speak of, my 2 mile hurdlers haven't been out yet!

The Christmas points fest is fast approaching.
Our best lines will soon be taking shape and December bonus up for graps!! |
|
By:
Exciting Times!!
|
|
By:
Been very slow going for me so far, so need a few of my lines to start moving in the right direction.
|
|
By:
I'm not doing too well in the tables.
But have had very few injuries and flops, so have hope in my heart. ![]() It's all so dependent on the subs bearing in mind that the Festival is after them. |
|
By:
Five of the leaders didn't have enough Bucks
|
|
By:
Most of the leaders also have Hurricane Fly and Long Run. If these both win over Christmas, the important bonus races could be the Irish Hennessy and the novice combinations. No more points for Big Bucks before the festival.
With horses racing only 3-4 times a season , the TTF is like one big accumulator. Its very hard to make ground up after a loss. The fact that last years winner finished on 782 points shows that are plenty points to fight for yet. |
|
By:
Not been on here for ages (have a wild guess,am doing rubbish like most of us)
Just noticed your Celestrial Halo comm from a while back JOCI? yep you are human that was Celestrial Gold ! (re the PP and Henn double) i just wanna wish Denman a long and happy retirement, will never forget the mighty's top weight Henn win Didn't select Kauto Star but i hope it wins the KG |
|
By:
Big Bucks is my top scorer
![]() Almost 32,000 lists ahead of me ![]() See you next year... |
|
By:
118 in 4391st place.
|
|
By:
My best line is 715 overall, the same line is 126 in December. It's doing well since it has neither great endeavour or carrutthers.
Has a squeak at the months prize.... sqeaak squeak!! |
|
By:
Comparing points totals to a similar stage last year, they seem to be a lot lower this year. Even taking in account that Little Josh won the PP last wasn't even in the TTF.
In 16th in the December monthly prize but feel I have no chance as the leaders ahead of me have similar entries. |

You can say that again. ![]() |
|
By:
got one line nearly in the top 100 so not totally out of it yet I hope. Have got Long Run, Master Minded, Grands Crus, Hurricane Fly and Binocular going in that one over Christmas so a bit of potential there...subs will be crucial I think...
|
|
By:
Hurricane Fly -will he or wont he . Could decide the TTF for many. If he misses the Istabraq, there are only 4 weeks to the Irish Champion Hurdle(Bonus Race 50 pts). Is a banker for me .
Only have Long run running for me in the King George. Its not about winning for me-its keeping the dream alive for as long as possible. |
|
By:
you're alright Jessie,my dream lasted 2 races
![]() |
|
By:
Betting would suggest Hurricane is not set to fly just yet,........
|
|
By:
Big day.
A Kauto win would be very popular, but rule many out for the season. |
|
By:
Me included.
