Kauto always needs his first run. Anyone with a modicum of racing knowledge knows that.
By:
Ruby broken ankle in Ireland. This will have a massive effect on the decision on Kauto in the Hennessy. Won't run now imo.
By:
That should put the Kybosh on it ... debate over. Will he be back in time for the King George.
By:
Yeah no Ruby will certainly effect the decision making.
By:
Ruby will be pushing it to be ready for the King George. He might be ok with a simple break. Anything worse and he'll struggle.
By:
Have to say that it looks unlikely they'll run in the Hennessey without Ruby. What is it with him and early season injuries poor chap. 7 weeks to the KG - would have to be a fairly straight forward break for him to be back for that - though I'm sure he'll try. If they do attempt the Hennessey who do people think will ride and who would you want to ride. AP for me, get Sam back up on Denman
By:
don't see why ruby not riding him will effect their decision re: the hennessy...if they are running him as they want to eke out all they can now he's coming to the end of his career, they'll just go ahead and pick the best jock available.
By:
Dont think so matey
By:
If, and it's a massive if, Kauto does run in the Hennessy, it would not surprise me in the slightest if Geraghty rides Kauto and AP stays on Denman.
Just my opinion. |
By:
Barry G would be perfect for Kauto.
By:
Would Henderson not have something in the race? Somewhere else someone suggested Paul Carberry, which might not be a bad choice. Timmy Murphy perhaps? As much as AP is a great the more I think about it perhaps he's not right for Kauto who tends to make his mistakes when pushed into a fence
By:
I think so too CV. That's my prediction anyway if he runs.
Just glad Kauto did the business today. Kauto doesn't owe me a penny, but Mrs SHA is very happy tonight ![]() |
By:
it was me who saidcarberry for kauto but kautoi aint gonna run. ide like to see timmy murphy or carberry ride big bucks on henessy day
By:
cant believe rubys out. |
By:
Ruby will be out for months, he broke his fibula and tibula. He'll have surgery tomorrow. He doesn't deserve this. Hope he's back to Ride Kauto in the Gold Cup.
By:
CV, now it's confirmed how serious Ruby's injury is, and also assuming Henderson has runners so Geraghty is pre-occupied, who rides Kauto in your opinion?
By:
AP or Sam in the King George. Skip the Hennessy. Losing Ruby should scupper that idea.
By:
doubt losing ruby would scupper that idea given the owner wants to take on these races.
By:
Think in the most gruelling handicap of the season they wouldnt risk the horses safety with a new jockey up getting to know him the first time when the horse is likely to be his most tired ever in a race conceding chunks of weight to others over the extended trip at the close he wont be head in chest there. You probably need to let your speculative bet go Wicketd he was only a possible for the race anyway, take it on the chin.
By:
![]() being serious though, i can't see it factoring. likely the horse's last year at the top and i can't see them not wanting to tackle the hennessy because ruby is unavailable. |
By:
Sorry I know Ruby always rides Kauto but the likelihood is he will be lucky to ride again this season. What do you think they are going to leave him in his box all year? I would imagine the plan will remain the same and although it's sad Ruby won't be riding I'm sure there's plenty of good jockey's available.

By:
I'm going to be laying KS in the Henn. Non runner surely.
By:
Let those 10 quids at 20s go lads the horses welfare is more important.
By:
Thinly Veiled, "I dont want my King George Ante Post bet compromised" post imo
By:
You are very cynical zilzal I love horses unlike many on here who just want to trade out and dont even care if he wins or falls or loses.
By:
You only love horses if the trainer does exactly what you think he should do....
By:
Not at all .. I have no influence over trainers .. laughable statement I think you are Alice now
![]() |
By:
We know that you have no influence over trainers Kirkybabes......
Im not the one telling other people to "Let their bets go as its in the safety interests of the Horse" If he comes out of the race yesterday fit and well and the owner wants to run him then the public win, we get to see a race where Kauto tries to give weight to animals and goes after the rating his connections WANT. Love Alice............ |
By:
Eric accusing other people of backing KS now.
Why are you saying people have bet on this horse ? |
By:
More like the Mad Hatter now.
The best jockey for Kauto in the King George is AP McCoy however I wouldnt want him up on the horse giving chunks away in a Hennessy the horse is not at his best trips above 3 miles and he would have an extremely hard race with AP up as he would definitely be in a race at the weights no head in chest wins here. Do you want 2 different jockeys up in each race ... no. Therefore the sensible thing to do is go straight to the King George with AP up. They can try for a rating at shorter trips where the horse excels the most and wont be out on his feet conceding the weight. |
By:
Yes, but why are you accusing people of having backed the horse for the Hennessy ??
By:
We all know you've backed him for the King George YBM
By:
If, and it's a massive if, Kauto does run in the Hennessy, it would not surprise me in the slightest if Geraghty rides Kauto and AP stays on Denman.
Just my opinion. Makes sense to me. If Kauto runs in the Hennessy Geraghty would not have a ride for Henderson - 10 4 is his lowest weight. Ruby will move heaven and earth to ride in KG ...a special boot required. |
By:
No chance at all of Ruby riding in the King George. He faces a race to be back for Cheltenham.
By:
Kauto Star was ridden right out to the line to beat 2 horses yesterday by 4lengths & a neck off level weights, yet he was officially rated 33lbs and 41lbs superior to them. It takes an exceptional horse to give weight away in top class handicaps like the Hennessy and I would be very surprised if Kauto Star is one of them.
By:
last year he beat IC a nose and was supposed to be 21lbs superior. remember SE and CR are both race fit, and likely to be improving. Kauto was having his first run, and is likely on the downgrade. was impressive imo.
think the owner will want to push for the hennessy and although i'd like to see it i don't think he'll win. still, nothing to lose. |
By:
His rating is based on the KG a race that suits him way more than any other. Elsewhere you can knock those ratings right down and conceding weight well, watching yesterdays race can you see him successfully conceding chunks to horses like this over 2f further off a breakneck pace when he hits a fence every other race?
By:
His current rating of 190 is only 4 higher than his record 186 in the Gold Cup. Kauto is an out and out stayer, he was outpaced a bit by the younger horses on Sat. He needs further and a fast pace these days to be seen at his best.
By:
As ive mentioned, the King George 193 rating was suspect
IMO, Nacarat was the second best horse in the race and wasnt ridden to his best advantage |
By:
LOL stick to the horse who will finish down the field to Binocular please, the Montjeu.
