I am not yet buying the perceived idea that Ballydoyle Honey is not as good running against dogs. She has not ran that much against them but won the unraced in Clonmel at the start of last year and then won the Mulvaney 600 around Shelbourne. She only got as far as round 3 of the Kirby Memorial but then i don't think Limerick really suited her and then she only made round 3 of the Derby at Shelbourne. Most just presume she struggled against the dogs in the toughest competition of the year. However i am not so sure that is really the case, i have 2 theories.
The first one is that she was running below par for those few weeks and i would use Samiya as an example. In round 2 Honey broke in front of Samiya yet Samiya destroyed her to the corner, even then turning for home although Honey was slightly held up Samiya ran away from her again to the line. Every time they've met since then over trips of 525y and 600y Ballydoyle Honey has put Samiya in her place. The other theory i have is that the 550y trip possibly doesn't suit Honey that much, i know sounds mad the way she finishes over 525y right? However i do wonder if the extra 25y on the run to the corner are not to her favour, over 600y with another 25y to the corner it doesn't bother her but then she is up against slower dogs early wise. I could well be wrong and the majority right but i do not think there is enough hard evidence to say she struggles against the dogs. As for the comp she was clearly better value @ 7/2 for the Christmas Oaks and 4/1 for the Oaks. However i still do not think 6/1 is a bad price, run the comp 100 times and she will only win it 14 times? I cannot have that. In the competition there are only 8 dogs (9 at a push) including Honey that i can see winning it. She has got a fine draw tonight and i would expect her to possibly turn 3rd to both Swords Fern and Jaytee Valencia (both shortish runners) and from there she should win easily and clock a right good time, clearing Slippery Snowy looks her only job. the only 2 wides in the comp that would worry me draw wise with Honey is Rural Hawaii and Jaytee Jet and even then with any sort of run she should be qualifing. She holds her form extremely well and has only been out of the first 3 twice in her career, i think 6/1 is on the big side. |

Been betting another in the Easter Cup, can't post it yet though

Rural Hawaii has been withdrawn from the second round of the Ladbrokes Easter Cup to be run at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night.
The Graham Holland son of Head Bound and Duck Fat is suffering from a virus which has hit some of the Holland dogs and what is particularly worrying is that Holland has four other dogs in the second round draw. None of them have yet been affected. Rural Hawaii’s defection means there are only four runners in the second heat as Ballyhooly Henry had already been withdrawn. The revised draw for Heat 2 is: 1 Time To Share, 2 Peregrine Falcon, 3 Vacant, 4 Jaytee Jet (w), 5 Vacant, 6 Notorious Ben (w). |

8/1 Droopys Roddick to win the Kirby Memorial, when best price 16/1 to win the English Derby?!

9/1 Roddick if anyone's interested

Pf what's happened to the dude not been seen this year that right ????

Had a bet 9/1 Roddick (who we all know and love) but added another string to my bow with 16/1 Witches Belle. Quickest in first round and could go all the way if churning out splits like that 1.22secs
Good luck! |

Been betting like a cant/lunatic for 4 days, have a chance to get outta this comp thanks to the inside info, please God Jaytee Jet blows the life and turns hands but I will be backing the top, have a pain in my ballsac with this comp but the top is way overpriced, ain't got my card at the minute but 5s is massive, no doubt Ronan will play

Early play was little bet 8/1 Lenson Sanchez. Thought he'd come back to his best originally but doesn't seem so now. Would be happy to see Slippery Fred win, holding an Irish Derby antepost ticket

Witches Belle flew out last night and very happy with my 16/1. Droopys Roddick led but couldn't shake of pursuers and the time wasn't there really. Got 8/1 but needs to improve, especially if he's going to make a big impact in the English Derby. Having said that, hoping he's a fair few lengths better round Wimbo
In the sprint competition, Quietly timed the start, showed scintillating early pace and did the clock. Reminds me a bit of Farloe Blitz |

Think there is still value about in the Kirby Memorial, a bit miffed I didn't take the 25s Double Oh Seven (who could possibly be as fast as anything in the country) before the last round. Droopys Awesome is a dog that's improving every week and last week he was quite impressive in defeat I thought, he missed the start again (which is a problem at the moment) but showed good pace up to be up Witches Belle's arse on the corner, he lost some ground here as the bitch went around but then showed impressive pace again into the 3rd where he has nowhere to go and the bitch pulled away up the straight.
In his semi final (it is a tough race) Witches Belle has drawn 1, she moved onto the hare rail from 4 last week so if she comes away you'd expect her to be moving off and then you have Clares Rocket in 3 who wants to be going the other way, it leaves Calzaghe Billy with an awful tough draw in 2 and there is the chance of trouble. Riverside Oscar looks to have a real hard job here and once Droopys Awesome can hold Eightythreelarch again on his outside I don't think the bottom can back run up and then he should qualify. With 11 railers and only 1 (w) left in there the draw for the final will be all crucial but then if Droopys Awesome does qualify I don't think he would be as unconvinced as others if getting a middle to wide draw. He does need to improve again but at the price and the way he is going I thought he was worth playing and had a few quid on at 20s today. |

Although I've no idea about value, wouldn't swop my only two bets 8/1 Droopys Roddick and 16/1 Witches Belle

Ballymac Bigmike was away rapidly and came again to beat lost nothing in defeat Quietly in Treaty Cup final. Toolmaker Scot, useful too, third
Aye Goddess, Clares Rocket sprouted wings and if away like that in the final, my pair Droopys Roddick and Witches Belle have their work cut out, to say the least |

Oh, very good betting for that sprint final: 1/3, 5/2 each of 4 and 3/1!

Champion trainer Graham Holland has no plans for runners in this year’s William Hill Greyhound Derby – despite having one of Ireland’s outstanding candidates in Clares Rocket.
The son of Confident Rankin was just five spots outside the Limerick 525 yard track record when landing his semi final of the Kirby Memorial by eight lengths from the unbeaten Witches Belle in 28.00. He said: “There are no plans to travel at this moment and I don’t see that changing. We sent Sidarian Vega to Charlie Lister after the Easter Cup but Clares Rocket is too young. The way I look at it, you don’t send a boy to do a man’s job. If you look back at the English Derby at the dogs who get to the latter stages, not many of them come back as good the following year and Rocket could win a lot of decent competitions if we look after him.” Clares Rocket’s Derby quality can be judged by the fact that he will be a short priced favourite to win at Limerick despite the presence of the 16-1 Wimbledon ante post favourite Droopys Roddick who landed the other qualifier in 28.52. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I will be honest but I just cannot have that dog, I really think he is a 575y or 600y dog and time will tell, I don't have the monster tank to lay a 1 dog book but I really do think he is a shocking price for the Derby
